Screening of the microelement composition of drinking well water in Transcarpathia has not been carried out before. The microelement composition of such well water can be considered as the natural (baseline) indicator of quality. Methods We screened of the microelement (Cu, Zn, Fe, P, Ca, Mg, Mn, Mo, Co, As, Se, I, Br and F) composition of drinking well water in Transcarpathian region (for all 13 districts). Standard methods were used to determination the concentration of chemical elements in well water electrothermal atomic absorption spectroscopy (Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Mo, Co), flame photometry (Ca, Mg), inverse voltammetry (total iodine), potentiometry (F, Br), fluorimetric (Se) and spectrophotometric methods (P, As). Results The content of chemical elements in well water varies over a wide range, in particular for Cu 3.27-11.6 nking well water in Transcarpathia are the relatively high content of Fe (typical for different landscape zones), as well as the low content of Se, I and F. The correlation of inter-elements content of chemical elements in drinking well waters of Transcarpathia has been revealed. The most pronounced correlations are observed for such pairs of microelements Co-Mo (r > 0.95), I-Br (r > 0.92), Zn-Br (r > 0.89), Cu-Co (r > 0.84), Se-Co (r > 0.84), Mo-P (r > 0.84), Mo-I (r > 0.82) and Zn-Mo (r > 0.80). © 2020 The Author(s).This paper presents a fuzzy-multiple objective optimization methodology to plan stand-alone electricity generation systems. The optimization process considers three main objectives, namely technology cost, environmental and societal impacts. For each feasible solution of the Pareto set, a system reliability index is evaluated along the lifetime of the project. As a key contribution, the decision making process is carried out by applying a fuzzy satisfaction method (FSM). The FSM accounts simultaneously four key performance indexes (KPI) technical, economic, environmental and social. The novelty of the proposal lies on the inclusion of societal impact (local wealth creation) in the FSM used here to select the more appropriate solution. selleck kinase inhibitor Previous contributions on FSM only accounts two of four indexes considered in this paper. The methodology was applied in a Colombian case study. The results show the importance of the simultaneous consideration of technical, economic, environmental and social objectives in the evaluation of off-grid energization solutions. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.Glyphosate (N- (phosphonomethyl) glycine) is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. In the literature, there are several studies describing the interaction between glyphosate and clay minerals. However, there is a lack of data of this interaction in marine environments. In this research, we examined the adsorption of glyphosate onto montmorillonite in the presence of artificial seawater. Mössbauer data showed that the interaction of the phosphonate group of glyphosate with Fe2+ of montmorillonite prevents its oxidation to Fe3+. X-ray diffractograms showed that glyphosate adsorption takes place only onto the montmorillonite surface and not in its interlayers. Infrared spectroscopy data demonstrate that the interaction between glyphosate and montmorillonite could be through the amino group. FT-IR spectra of aqueous solutions of salts of seawater showed that Ca2+ interacts with glyphosate of the phosphonate group, thus causing an increase in its adsorption onto montmorillonite. However, glyphosate dissolved in 0.50 mol L-1 NaCl and 0.034 mol L-1MgCl2 solutions showed the lowest adsorption onto montmorillonite. In addition, the adsorption of glyphosate onto montmorillonite decreased when the NaCl concentration increased. The results fitted the Sips isotherm model, probably because the Ca2+ interacts with glyphosate, making the adsorption process more homogeneous. Thus, n values for Freundlich and Sips isotherm models decreased with an increase in ionic strength. Glyphosate and ions of artificial seawater increased the pHpzc of montmorillonite. © 2020 The Authors. The effect of the introduction of sexually active rams in spring on LH secretion in ewes after progestagen treatment has been studied. Two rams were induced into a sexually active state by exposure to 2 months of long days (16 h of light/d) from 1 January (SAR), and another 2 rams were exposed to the natural photoperiod, so that they were not sexually activated in spring (control; C). At the end of the long-day period, rams were returned to natural photoperiod conditions. Fifteen ewes synchronized in estrus by intravaginal sponges were assigned to three groups at sponge withdrawal (hour 0) SAR (n = 5), exposed to SAR rams; C (n = 5), exposed to C rams, and ISO (n = 5), kept isolated from rams. Twenty-four hours after pessary removal (hour 0), rams were introduced into the SAR and C groups. Three SAR ewes presented preovulatory LH surges; the proportion was significantly (P less then 0.05) higher in this group (3/5) than in the others (C 0/5, ISO 0/5). SAR introduction induced a more marked (P less then 0.05) increase in mean LH plasma concentrations (before rams 1.34 ± 0.19; after rams 6.94 ± 2.66 ng/ml) than C (before 0.96 ± 0.29; after 3.60 ± 1.44) or ISO (before 1.26 ± 0.42; after 2.14 ± 1.36) groups, and significantly (P less then 0.05) higher plasma LH levels after ram introduction. In conclusion, only light-treated sexually activated rams induced LH preovulatory surges in ewes in the seasonal anestrus, when ewes are synchronized with progestagen treatment in the absence of eCG. © 2020 The Authors. However, clinical research targeting Japanese HD patients has been very limited. As a result, there is a low recognition of HD in Japan, leading to insufficient evaluation and treatment of Japanese HD patients. The aim of the current study was to delineate the clinical characteristics of Japanese HD patients. Thirty HD patients, 20 obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients, and 21 normal controls (NC) were targeted in this study. The HD group had a tendency toward higher familiality, earlier onset, and longer disease duration compared to the OCD group. In addition, the HD group showed a significantly higher unmarried rate than the NC group. The top two comorbidities in the HD group were major depressive disorder (56.7%) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (26.7%). The HD group had significantly higher scores on hoarding rating scales and lower scores on the Global Assessment of Functioning Scale than the other two groups. The current study showed a clinical trend in Japanese HD patients similar to previous studies in various countries, suggesting that HD may be a universal disease with consistent clinical symptoms. © 2020 The Author(s).T cell receptor stimulation initiates a cascade of reactions that cause an increase in intracellular calcium (Ca2+) concentration mediated through inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3). To understand the basic mechanisms by which the immune response in T cells is activated, it is useful to understand the signaling pathways that contain important targets for drugs in a quantitative fashion. A computational model helps us to understand how the selected elements in the pathways interact with each other, and which component plays the crucial role in systems. We have developed a mathematical model to explore the mechanism for controlling transcription factor activity, which regulates gene expression, by the modulation of calcium signaling triggered during T cell activation. The model simulates the activation and modulation of Ca2+ release-activated Ca2+ (CRAC) channels by mitochondrial dynamics and depletion of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) store, and also includes membrane potential in T-cells. The model simulates the experimental finding that increases in Ca2+ current enhances the activation of transcription factors and the Ca2+ influx through CRAC is also essential for the NFAT and NFκB activation. The model also suggests that plasma membrane Ca2+-ATPase (PMCA) controls a majority of the extrusion of Ca2+ and modulates the activation of CRAC channels. Furthermore, the model simulations explain how the complex interaction of the endoplasmic reticulum, membrane potential, mitochondria, and ion channels such as CRAC channels control T cell activation. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.Harmful algal blooms (HABs) such as those produced by Karenia brevis have acute negative impacts on common bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in Florida coastal waters, frequently causing illness and death. However, much less is known about chronic, sub-acute effects on these important sentinel species. This study investigates whether bottlenose dolphin behavior in Sarasota Bay, Florida is influenced by the presence of severe red tide events, focusing on respiratory and other behaviors likely affected by abundant toxin aerosols produced during these blooms. Through focal animal behavioral follows, we observed free-ranging dolphin respiratory behavior, activity budgets, and movement patterns relative to K. brevis abundance in the study area. We compared behavior from dolphins observed during a 2005 K. brevis bloom to those observed during inter-bloom conditions where K. brevis was present at background concentrations. We found that the rate of "chuffing", an explosive type of exhalation, was significantly greater in dolphins observed during the bloom. No apparent effect on respiratory rate, heading change rate or activity budgets was observed. We propose that this chuffing behavior is analogous to symptoms of respiratory irritation observed in humans exposed to such red tide events, and suggest that this may be a type of disturbance response. With an observed increase in both the frequency and severity of HABs, such disturbance responses may have large-scale chronic impacts to the health and fitness of bottlenose dolphins in regions where such HABs are common. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.Background More than half of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients present with metastatic disease at initial diagnosis with an estimated five-year survival rate of ~5%. Despite advances in understanding primary lung cancer oncogenesis metastatic disease remains poorly characterized. Recent studies demonstrate important roles of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in tumor physiology and as prognostic markers. Therefore, we present the first transcriptome analysis to identify lncRNAs altered in metastatic lung adenocarcinoma leading to the discovery and characterization of the lncRNA LCAL62 as a prognostic biomarker. Patients and methods RNA-Seq, microarray, nanoString expression, and clinical data from 1,116 LUAD patients across six independent cohorts and 83 LUAD cell lines were used to discover and evaluate the survival association of metastasis associated lncRNAs. Coexpression and gene set enrichment analyses were used to establish gene regulatory networks and implicate metastasis associated lncRNAs in specific biological processes.
