α-fetoprotein is often used in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, there are currently less efficient and highly specific biomarkers to distinguish AFP-negative HCC from liver cirrhosis (LC) patients.

We retrospectively analyzed the data of patients who were treated in our hospitals. iTRAQ coupled with mass spectrometry was used to identify candidate serum proteins in a discovery set (n = 36) including AFP-negative HCC and LC patients. After Western blot detection, potential serum biomarkers were confirmed using ELISA in a validation set (n = 90). The diagnostic performance of the selected proteins was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC).

PON1 and ATIII were selected as target proteins and were significantly higher in LC than those in AFP-negative HCC patients as validated by Western blot and ELISA, which was consistent with the result of iTRAQ. The AUC was 0.848 as PON1 and ATIII were combined (sensitivity 80.0%; specificity 73.3%), and performed much better than that of a single biomarker.

These findings suggest that PON1 and ATIII have the potential to serve as effective biomarkers for distinguishing AFP-negative HCC from cirrhosis.

Muscle mass at admission is important to survive stroke, and stroke-induced sarcopenia is a serious problem because of its poor prognosis. Muscle mass measurement and monitoring are essential for appropriate rehabilitation and nutrition management. However, few reviews are available about the muscle mass measurement and monitoring after stroke.

Quadriceps strength asymmetry at the time of return-to-sport (RTS) after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) contributes to altered landing mechanics. However, the impact of RTS quadriceps strength on longitudinal alterations in landing mechanics, a risk factor for poor knee joint health over time, is not understood. link2 The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that young athletes with quadriceps strength asymmetry at the time of RTS clearance after ACLR would demonstrate asymmetric landing mechanics 2years later compared to those without quadriceps strength asymmetry.

We followed 57 young athletes (age at RTS=17.6±3.0years; 77% females) with primary, unilateral ACLR for 2years following RTS clearance. At RTS, we measured isometric quadriceps strength bilaterally and calculated limb-symmetry indices [LSI=(involved/uninvolved)×100%]. Using RTS quadriceps LSI, we divided participants into High-Quadriceps (HQ; LSI≥90%) and Low-Quadriceps (LQ; LSI<85%) groups. Two years later, we assessed landing mechanics during a drop-vertical jump (DVJ) task using three-dimensional motion analysis. We compared involved/uninvolved limb values and LSI between the HQ and LQ groups using Mann-Whitney U tests.

The LQ group (n=26) demonstrated greater asymmetry (lower LSI) during landing at 2years post-RTS for knee flexion excursion (p=0.016) and peak vertical ground reaction force (p=0.006) compared to the HQ group (n=28). There were no group differences in uninvolved or involved limb values for all variables (all p>0.093).

The systems for precisely locating the joint line during primary and revision total knee arthroplasty are still controversial, and they should be better evaluated in the Chinese population.

A total of 451 standard anteroposterior knee radiographs from 451 healthy Chinese people (283 males and 168 females, the average age of 33.26years, range 20-50years) were included to measure the femoral width (FW) and the distances from the adductor tubercle (AT), the medial epicondyle (ME), the lateral epicondyle (LE), and the fibular head (FH) to the joint line (JL). Correlation between FW and distances from landmarks to the joint line was evaluated using Pearson correlation coefficient, and the ratios of ATJL, MEJL, LEJL, FHJL to FW were calculated.

The average distances from the AT, the ME, the LE, the FH to the JL were 49.4±5.0mm, 28.3±3.1mm, 26.9±2.9mm, 20.0±4.0mm, respectively. An excellent linear correlation was found between FW and the distance from AT to the joint line (R=0.836, R

Gait analysis has been used for decades to quantify knee function in patients with knee osteoarthritis; however, it is unknown whether and to what extent inter-laboratory differences affect the comparison of gait data between studies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to perform an inter-laboratory comparison of knee biomechanics and muscle activation patterns during gait of patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Knee biomechanics and muscle activation patterns from patients with knee osteoarthritis were analyzed, previously collected at Dalhousie University (DAL n=55) and Amsterdam UMC, VU medical center (VUmc n=39), using their in-house protocols. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are an overlooked risk factor for behavioural, mental and physical health disparities in children with intellectual disabilities (ID) and borderline intellectual functioning (BIF).

To gain insight into the presence of the 10 original Wave II ACEs and family context risk variables in a convenience sample of children with ID and BIF in Dutch residential care.

134 case-files of children with ID (n = 82) and BIF (n = 52) were analysed quantitatively.

81.7 % of the children with ID experienced at least 1 ACE, as did 92.3 % of the children with BIF. The average number of ACEs in children with ID was 2.02 (range 0-8) and in children with BIF 2.88 (range 0-7). About 20 % of the children with moderate and mild ID experienced 4 ACEs or more. Many of their families faced multiple and complex problems (ID 69.5 %; BIF 86.5 %). link3 Multiple regression analysis indicated an association between family context risk variables and the number of ACEs in children.

We investigated the experiences and perceptions of Australian mainstream teachers who field-tested a validated Model of Practice designed to support their daily work with young school-aged students on the spectrum. This new online resource comprised 29 foundational research-informed practices, each accompanied by a 2-page practice brief.

A convergent parallel mixed-methods design used semi-structured interviews and surveys to gather data from a sample of teachers (n = 38) prior to and following an 8-week field-testing period. Differentiated levels of professional support to facilitate engagement with the model were provided, with teachers receiving either in-person support, online support, or no additional support.

A majority of teachers endorsed the practice model. Those who engaged with the model reported statistically significant increases in knowledge, confidence, and efficacy.
