The purpose of this study was to explore the association between perceived stress and depression among medical students and the mediating role of insomnia in this relationship during the COVID-19 pandemic in China.

A cross-sectional survey was conducted from March to April 2020 in medical university. Levels of perceived stress, insomnia and depression were measured using Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) and Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9). The descriptive analyses of the demographic characteristics and correlation analyses of the three variables were calculated. The significance of the mediation effect was obtained using a bootstrap approach with SPSS PROCESS macro.

The mean age of medical students was 21.46 years (SD=2.50). Of these medical students, 10,185 (34.3%) were male and 19,478 (65.7%) were female. Perceived stress was significantly associated with depression (β=0.513, P<0.001). Insomnia mediated the association between perceived stress and depression (β=0.5proach for prevention of depression in medical students. Findings from this study indicated that it may be effective to reduce depression among medical students by improving sleep quality and easing perceived stress.
Individuals with depression exhibit numerous interpersonal deficits. As effective use of gestures is critical for social communication, it is possible that depressed individuals' interpersonal deficits may be due to deficits in gesture performance. The present study thus compared gesture performance of depressed patients and controls and examined whether these deficits relate to cognitive and other domains of dysfunction.

Gesture performance was evaluated in 30 depressed patients and 30 controls using the Test of Upper Limb Apraxia (TULIA). Clinical rating scales were assessed to determine if gesture deficits were associated with motor, cognitive or functional outcomes.

Compared to controls, depressed patients exhibited impaired gesture performance with 2/3 of the patients demonstrating gesture deficits. Within depressed patients, gesture performance was highly correlated with working memory abilities. In contrast, no association between gesture performance and gestural knowledge, psychomotor retardation, depression severity, or frontal dysfunction was observed in patients.

This is a cross-sectional study and a larger size would have allowed for confident detection of more subtle, but potentially relevant effects.

As such, this study explored a green method for aqueous hexavalent chromium (Cr(Ⅵ)) reclamation by waste steel slag (SS) enhanced by natural pyrite (NP). Compared with the sole SS or NP, more efficient Cr(Ⅵ) removal was achieved by NP-SS at an initial pH value ranging from 1 to 8, resulting in a final pH value of 7-8. Cr(Ⅵ) in the solution could be initially reduced to Cr(III) by Fe2+ provided by NP, which was then bound with the OH- in the solution and the supersaturated calcium silicate hydrate on the surface of SS. In addition, the stearic acid anions existing on the surface of SS could promote the adsorption of Cr(III) to form chromium stearate. The used adsorbent could be potentially used for chromium smelting. Overall, this study provides a feasible and environmental sustainable solution to chromium reclamation from hexavalent chromium-containing wastewater.Metal organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles are recognized for their effective removal of metal ions from aqueous systems. However, the application of nanoparticles in a powder form as synthesized is not practical and recovery is not easy. We prepared a recyclable magnetic MOF nanoparticle phase and used a widely available waste biomass to generate biochar to support magnetic nanoparticles applied in the treatment of aqueous antimony pollution. A mushroom waste biochar was used to support a magnetic UIO-66-2COOH (denoted as BSMU). Adsorption of trivalent antimony (Sb (III)) onto the BSMU was evaluated. The results showed that optimum conditions for preparation of the BSMU were the mass ratio of MMOF to biochar 41, the temperature 70 °C, the time 4 h, and the initiator 4 mM. Under such conditions, sorption capacity reached 56.49 mg/g for treatment of Sb (III) solution at 100 mg/L and pH 9.1. Alkaline conditions (such as pH 9.1) are more favorable for adsorption than acidic conditions, and coexisting ions including NO3-, Cl-, SO42-, and PO43- had no significant negative effect in adsorption, and with the use of low dose, higher adsorption density achieved. The adsorption followed a pseudo second order kinetics model and Freundlich isotherm model. It resulted in a higher enthalpy changes (ΔHθ) and activation energy (Ea) of 97.56 and 8.772 kJ/mol, respectively, and enhanced the rate pf random contact between antimony and the BSMU, as indicated by a higher entropy change (ΔSθ) up to 360 J/mol·K. As a result, it readily absorbs antimony. These adsorption properties identified in this study would provide a valuable insights into the application of nanoparticles loaded biochar from abundant biomass in environmental remediation.Neuroblastoma (NBL) is an embryonal malignancy of childhood with poor outcomes for patient with high-risk disease. Multimodal treatment approaches have improved outcomes but at the cost of significant toxicity, and there is no durable therapeutic approach for relapsed disease. As NBL has no singular oncogenic driver, targeted therapeutic options have been limited. Disruptin is an N-terminally biotinylated nonadecapeptide, with 8 amino acids from the αC-helix-β4 sheet loop of EGFR (S767-C774) fused to a TAT undecapeptide. The S767-R775 loop is at the interface with juxtamembrane domains in the active EGFR dimers and is a binding site for Hsp90. Cellular studies in EGFR-activated tumor cells demonstrated that Disruptin causes the disappearance of EGFR protein from cells over a few hours, a growth inhibitory effect, similar but more effective than the EGFR kinase inhibition. Interestingly, cells without activated EGFR remained unaffected. In vivo studies showed that Disruptin slowed the growth of small tumors. Larger tumors responded to intratumoral injections but did not respond to systemic administration at tolerated doses. Investigation of these results revealed that systemic administration of Disruptin has acute toxicities, mainly related to its TAT peptide moiety. Therefore, we conclude that although the efficacy of both in vitro and in vivo intratumoral injection of Disruptin supports the therapeutic strategy of blocking activated EGFR dimerization, Disruptin is not suitable for further development. These studies also highlight the importance of the chosen models and drug-delivery methods for such investigations.
In the past years the significance of white matter hyperintensities (WMH) has gained raising attention because it is considered a marker of severity of different pathologies. Another condition that in the last years has been assessed in the neuroradiology field is cerebral microbleeds (CMB). The purpose of this work was to evaluate the association between the volume of WMH and the presence and characteristics of CMB.

Sixty-five consecutive (males 45; median age 70) subjects were retrospectively analyzed with a 1.5 Tesla scanner. WMH volume was quantified with a semi-automated procedure considering the FLAIR MR sequences whereas the CMB were studied with the SWI technique and CMBs were classified as absent (grade 1), mild (grade 2; total number of CMBs 1-2), moderate (grade 3; total number of CMBs 3-10), and severe (grade 4; total number of CMBs >10). Moreover, overall number of CMBs and the maximum diameter were registered.

Prevalence of CMBs was 30.76% whereas WMH 81.5%. Mann-Whitney test showed a statistically significant difference in WMH volume between subjects with and without CMBs (p<0.001). Pearson analysis showed significant correlation between CMB grade, number and maximum diameter and WMH. The better ROC area under the curve (Az) was obtained by the hemisphere volume with a 0.828 (95% CI from 0.752 to 0,888; SD=0.0427; p value=0.001). The only parameters that showed a statistically significant association in the logistic regression analysis were Hemisphere volume of WMH (p=0.001) and Cholesterol LDL (p=0.0292).

In conclusion, the results of this study suggest the presence of a significant correlation between CMBs and volume of WMH. No differences were found between the different vascular territories.
