Overexpression of TdSHN1 encoding cDNA in transgenic yeast and tobacco conferred Cd, Cu, and Zn tolerances. Interestingly, transgenic tobacco lines exhibited longer roots and greater biomass accumulation, retained more chlorophyll, and produced less ROS than WT plants, when subjected to excess HMs. In addition, transgenic tobacco lines had higher activities of ROS-scavenging enzymes (SOD and CAT) which might have contributed to their HM tolerance. This study suggested that TdSHN1 is a potential candidate for improving HM tolerance in plants and phytoremediation of HM-contaminated soils.Much work has gone into unpacking the range of individual, interpersonal and structural barriers that prevent asylum-seekers from accessing healthcare. In this Brief Communication, we disentangle asylum-seeking families' psychosocial responses when accessing healthcare as crucial dimensions of the access experience. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with 11 asylum-seeking families in Denmark, we present examples from three specific healthcare encounters between families and healthcare professionals in the Danish asylum system. We demonstrate how unfamiliarity with the healthcare system, interpersonal miscommunication and cultural insensitivity among professionals evoke specific emotions that undermine participants' trust in the healthcare system and affect their future motivation for healthcare seeking and ultimately also their healthcare seeking behavior. We argue for an urgent need to recognize the pivotal role of such psychosocial responses in shaping healthcare access for asylum-seeking families. Focusing on these responses is an important next step in overcoming barriers in access to healthcare, which have been described in literature for years.
Complications from liver cirrhosis are a leading cause of death in children with cystic fibrosis. Identifying children at risk for developing liver cirrhosis and halting its progression are critical to reducing liver-associated mortality.

Quantitative US imaging, such as shear-wave elastography (SWE), might improve the detection of liver fibrosis in children with cystic fibrosis (CF) over gray-scale US alone. We incorporated SWE in our pediatric CF liver disease screening program and evaluated its performance using magnetic resonance (MR) elastography.

Ninety-four children and adolescents with CF underwent 178 SWE exams, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and platelet measurements. Of these, 27 children underwent 34 MR elastography exams. We evaluated SWE performance using 6-MHz and 9-MHZ point SWE, and 9-MHz two-dimensional (2-D) SWE.

The 6-MHz point SWE was the only method that correlated with MR elastography (r=0.52; 95% confidence intorrelation with MR elastography, SWE might be a clinically useful predictor of liver fibrosis. this website We identified imaging criteria delineating the use of SWE to identify increased liver stiffness in children with CF. This study aimed to compare the long-term outcomes between the conventional surgery and the sutureless technique with a modified approach in superior TAPVC. Between January 2008 and December 2018, 173 patients with supracardiac TAPVC underwent surgery either with the conventional procedure (n = 130) or the sutureless repair (n = 43). Multivariate analysis and competing-risk analysis were used to identify risk factors for early death and postoperative pulmonary venous obstruction (PVO), respectively. Among 173 patients who underwent repair of supracardiac TAPVC, 46 (28%) had preoperative PVO, and 22 (12.7%) had postoperative PVO. The sutureless group had a lower postoperative PVO rate compared with the conventional group (p = 0.027).
