Our work highlights an excellent proposal of Bi/Se-Len NPs as theranostic nanoparticles for image-guided HCC radiotherapy.Treatment of aryl-fused bicyclo[4.2.0]octanols with an oxidant such as phenyliodine diacetate (PIDA) or hypochlorous acid gave dihydrofuran-containing polycyclic aromatic compounds by selective β-cleavage of the cyclobutanol moiety. Mechanistic studies suggest that the oxygen atom of the hydrofuran ring is incorporated from the hydroxy group of the substrate via intramolecular addition. The oxidative transformation should serve as a new method to prepare functionalized polycyclic aromatic compounds.Tracking the spatial distribution of receptor tyrosine kinases in their native environment contributes to understanding the homeostatic or pathological states at a molecular level. Conjugation of DNA tags to a specific receptor is a powerful tool for monitoring receptor spatial distribution. However, long-term stable trafficking in live cells without interfering with the intrinsic receptor function remains a challenge. Here, we report a general DNA-templated glycan labeling strategy to track spatial distribution of a specific receptor in living cells. Different from existing target-selective covalent methods, the DNA tags were incorporated in glycan of a specific receptor via aptamer-assisted metabolic glycan labeling, thus resulting in minimal perturbation to the receptor's biological function. As proof of concept, covalent tagging of MET, HER2, and EGFR was achieved, and then the spatial distribution was successfully monitored, including homo-/heterodimerization and internalization. Overall, the proposed strategy will greatly aid in investigating receptor dynamics and is conducive to understanding their biological function in the native environment. The role of molecular vibration in photoinduced electron transfer (ET) reactions has been extensively debated in recent years. In this study, we investigated vibrational wavepacket dynamics in a model ET system consisting of an organic dye molecule as an electron acceptor dissolved in various electron donating solvents. Saracatinib datasheet By using broad band pump-probe (BBPP) spectroscopy with visible laser pulses of sub-10 fs duration, coherent vibrational wavepackets of naphthacene dye with frequencies spanning 170-1600 cm-1 were observed in the time domain. The coherence properties of 11 vibrational modes were analyzed by an inverse Fourier filtering procedure, and we discovered that the dephasing times of some vibrational coherences are reduced with increasing ET rates. Density functional theory calculations indicated that the corresponding vibrational modes have a large Huang-Rhys factor between the reactant and the product states, supporting the hypothesis that the loss of phase coherence along certain vibrational modes elucidates that those vibrations are coupled to the reaction coordinate of an ET reaction.Dispersion of graphene and related materials in water is needed to enable sustainable processing of these 2D materials. In this work, we demonstrate the capability of branched polyethylenimine (BPEI) and polyacrylic acid (PAA) to stabilize reduced graphite oxide (rGO) dispersions in water. Atomic force microscopy colloidal probe measurements were carried out to investigate the interaction mechanisms between rGO and the polyelectrolytes (PEs). Our results show that for positive PEs, the interaction appears electrostatic, originating from the weak negative charge of graphene in water. For negative PEs, however, van der Waals forces may result in the formation of a PE shell on rGO. The PE-stabilized rGO dispersions were then used for the preparation of coatings to enhance gas barrier properties of polyethylene terephthalate films using the layer-by-layer self-assembly. Ten bilayers of rGOBPEI/rGOPAA resulted in coatings with excellent barrier properties as demonstrated by oxygen transmission rates below detection limits [ less then 0.005 cm3/(m2 day atm)]. The observed excellent performance is ascribed to both the high density of the deposited coating and its efficient stratification. These results can enable the design of highly efficient gas barrier solutions for demanding applications, including oxygen-sensitive pharmaceutical products or flexible electronic devices.Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) not only has a bad effect on the development of infants but also causes variations in breastmilk composition. This study aims to investigate the changes in the protein profile of colostrum between mothers with GDM and healthy mothers (H) by sequential windowed acquisition of all theoretical fragment ion proteomics techniques. A total of 1295 proteins were detected, with 192 proteins being significantly different between GDM and H. These significantly different proteins were enriched with the carbohydrate and lipid metabolism pathway as well as immunity. Some proteins had an AOC value of 1, such as apolipoprotein E and lipoprotein lipase. In addition, we identified 42 glycated and 93 glycosylated peptides in colostrum without any enrichment, with glycated peptides being upregulated and glycosylated peptides being downregulated in colostrum with GDM. These results help us to better understand the GDM-induced changes in proteomes and glycated and glycosylated level and provide guidance on infant formula adjustment for infants from mothers with GDM.Formation of protein-polymer conjugates (PPCs) is critical for many studies in chemical biology, biomedicine, and enzymatic catalysis. Polymers with coordinated physicochemical properties confer synergistic functions to PPCs that overcome the inherent limitation of proteins. However, application of PPCs has been synthetically restricted by the limited modification sites and polymer grafting method. Here, we present a versatile strategy for site-selective PPC synthesis. The initiator was specifically tethered to the preoxidized glycan moieties through oxime chemistry. Polymer brushes were grown in situ from the glycan by atom-transfer radical polymerization to generate well-controlled PPCs. Notably, the modification is site-specific, multivalent, and alterable depending on protein glycosylation. Additionally, we demonstrated that the cytocompatible method enabled the growth of polymer chains from the surface of living yeast cells. These results verified a facile technology for surface modification of biomacromolecules by desired polymers for various biomedical applications.Herein, we developed a novel method for the efficient capture of waterborne bacteria by creating an autonomous internal reflux of the magnetic nanoparticle chains (MNCs) inside a flow channel. A glass tube containing positively charged polyethyleneimine-coated MNCs (PEI-MNCs) was placed at the center of a Halbach ring, generating a strong and uniform magnetic field inside the ring. When a bacteria-spiked solution was injected into the tube, the target bacteria bound to the PEI-MNCs via an electrostatic interaction remained in the tube, whereas the unbound bacteria left the tube. Some PEI-MNC-bacteria complexes left the glass tube at high flow rates because of the drag force, which reduced the capture efficiency of the device. The loss of the PEI-MNC-bacteria complexes at high flow rates was suppressed by placing a k0 ring behind the Halbach ring. The k0 ring was used to apply a magnetic force in the opposite direction of the solution flow and create an autonomous reflux of the PEI-MNCs inside the glass tube, reducing their loss and increasing their capture efficiency. The capture efficiency of Escherichia coli O157 was determined based on the cell count to be greater than 90% at a flow rate of 15 mL/min. E. coli O157 was detected using quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and the limits of detection were 2 and 3 cfu/mL in deionized water and river water, respectively. The authors would like to make an addendum to their published paper [...].Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most prevalent malignant bone tumor in children and young adults. There is an urgent need for a novel biomarker related to the prognosis of OS. We performed a meta-analysis incorporating six independent datasets and performed a survival analysis with one independent dataset GSE21257 in the GEO database for gene screening. The results revealed that one potential biomarker related to OS survival, POGZ was the most significantly upregulated gene. We also verified that the POGZ was overexpressed in clinical samples. The survival analysis revealed that POGZ is associated with a poor prognosis in OS. Moreover, flow cytometry analysis of isolated OS cells demonstrated that OS cells were arrested in the G1 phase after POGZ knockdown. The RNA-seq results indicated that POGZ was co-expressed with CCNE1 and CCNB1. Pathway analysis showed that genes associated with high expression levels of POGZ were related to the cell cycle pathway. A cell model was constructed to detect the effects of POGZ. After POGZ knockdown, OS cell proliferation, invasion and migration were all decreased. Therefore, POGZ is an important gene for evaluating the prognosis of OS patients and is a potential therapeutic target. The epididymis is an organ that plays a key role in sperm maturation. The aim of this study was to examine the association between the chronic treatment of mature male rats with letrozole and morphological evaluation and morphometric values of epididymis as well as changes in the number of apoptotic cells in epididymal epithelium. Adult rats were treated with letrozole for 6 months and the epididymis weight, morphology, morphometric values and the number of apoptotic cells in the epithelium were examined. Long-term aromatase inhibition resulted in presence of intraepithelial clear vacuoles, hyperplasia of clear cells and a hyperplastic alteration in the epithelium known as a cribriform change. Moreover, changes in diameters of the epididymal duct and the epididymal lumen and changes in the epididymal epithelium height were observed. The number of apoptotic epithelial cells was increased in letrozole-treated group. It can be indicated that chronic treatment with letrozole can affect morphology, morphometric values and apoptosis in the epididymis of adult male rats. Observed changes are similar to that observed in the aging processes and may also be important for patients treated with aromatase inhibitors. Not available. Not available. Not available.Intramuscular hemangiomas of the masseter muscle are uncommon tumors and therefore can be difficult to accurately diagnose preoperatively, due to the unfamiliar presentation and deep location in the lateral face. A case of intramuscular hemangioma of the masseter muscle in a 66-yearold woman is presented. Doppler ultrasonography showed a 34× 15 mm hypoechoic and hypervascular soft tissue mass in the left masseter muscle, suggesting hemangioma. The mass was excised via a lateral cervical incision near the posterior border of the mandibular ramus. The surgical wound healed well without complications.Fibrofolliculoma is a benign tumor characterized by a smooth, dome-shaped papule of size 2-4 mm. Most fibrofolliculomas occur as multiple lesions, and very rarely, they are solitary. Herein, we report a case of solitary fibrofolliculoma found in the alar rim, without the typical characteristics of a fibrofolliculoma. A 42-year-old man visited the hospital with a protruding lesion that had occurred 1 year previously. A mass of size 5× 7 mm was observed on the left alar rim. The tumor was dome-shaped and palpable. The patient did not have any similar lesions elsewhere. No family member was known to have such a lesion. An incisional biopsy was performed before surgery, and pathological examination revealed hyperkeratosis and dyskeratosis; however, an accurate diagnosis was not made. Complete resection was planned for the mass on the alar rim. The resected mass was subjected to permanent biopsy, and the pathological examination results led to the diagnosis of fibrofolliculoma. Therefore, when diagnosing a dome-shaped mass in the alar rim, despite the suspicion of a very rare disease, it is necessary to suspect fibrofolliculoma and consider the process from diagnostic examination to treatment.
