Results The results of the present study revealed that there was a significant difference between the 2 groups at 24 and 48 hours after the chemotherapy (P  less then  .05), so that the mean score of the severity of nausea, vomiting, and anorexia in the experimental group was lower than in the control group (P  less then  .05). Conclusion The use of peppermint as a method in complementary medicine may improve nausea, vomiting, and anorexia in patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Further studies with greater sample size and longer follow-up period are needed to confirm the current findings.Public health issues have been raised regarding fructose toxicity and its serious metabolic disorders. Deleterious effects of high fructose intake on insulin sensitivity, body weight, lipid homeostasis have been identified. The new millennium has witnessed the emergence of a modern epidemic, the metabolic syndrome (MS), in approximately 25% of the world's adult population. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of the TNF-α antagonist infliximab on fructose-induced MS in rats. Rats were administered fructose (10%) in drinking water for 12 weeks to induce the experimental MS model. infliximab (5 mg/kg) was injected once weekly intraperitoneally starting on the 13th week for 4 weeks. Increase in body weight, blood glucose level, serum triglycerides (TGs), adiponectin level and blood pressure were present in MS rats. They also prompted increases in serum of leptin, TNF-α, and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Treatment with infliximab did not affect body weight, hyperglycemia or hypertension, but decreased serum TGs and increased serum HDL-c levels. Infliximab also decreased adiponectin levels. Surprisingly, infliximab increased MDA above its value in the MS group. These results reflect the fact that infliximab affects the manifestations of MS in rats. Though infliximab reduced TGs, increased HDL-c levels, reversed adiponectin resistance occurred by fructose, the drug failed to combat MS-mediated hyperglycemia, hypertension, and elevated MDA above the insult.
To compare predictability of the outcomes of Muller's muscle conjunctiva resection (MMCR) in patients with severe versus mild/moderate involutional aponeurotic ptosis.

This was a retrospective case-control study. All cases were recruited into the groups in terms of preoperative marginal reflex distance of upper eyelid (MRD-1). Group 1 consisted of patients with mild to moderate blepharoptosis was defined as an MRD-1 equal to 1.1 to 3 mm and Group 2 consisted of patients with severe blepharoptosis defined as MRD-1 ⩽ 1 mm. All patients underwent MMCR based on the response to phenylephrine and the amount of ptosis. MRD-1 obtained both manually and with ImageJ analysis program preoperatively and on the postoperative sixth month was compared. Successful surgical outcome criteria were defined as MRD-1 ⩾ 2.5 mm and inter-eyelid symmetry ⩽ 1 mm.

A total of 97 eyes of 83 participants met the inclusion criteria for this study (Group 1
 = 50, Group 2
 = 47). In terms of MRD-1 success rates were 88% in Group 1, and 70.2% in Group 2 (
= 0.03). Preoperative MRD-1 which was measured by ImageJ, and the amount of resected tissue in mm were the predictive data of surgical outcome by the logistic regression analysis (OR 6.45, 95% CI 1.82-22.78,
 = 0.004, OR 2.47, 95% CI 1.05-5.80,
 = 0.037, respectively).

The surgical success of MMCR can be predicted via tissue resection length and preoperative MRD-1. Higher surgical success rates were obtained in cases with mild-moderate ptosis and clinically acceptable success rates were obtained in cases with severe ptosis.

Conceptualizations of emotions might evolve over the course of adult development as motivations shift, but there are gaps in knowledge regarding these changes. This mixed-methods study tested theoretical predictions pertaining to age group differences in conceptualizations of emotions.

University students (
 = 210, M age = 20.1 years) and community-dwelling older adults (
= 90, M age = 72.5 years) participated in three survey studies (2016-2018) conducted in person, online, or
mail and provided written narrative definitions for 11 emotion words. Responses were coded for valence, arousal, time frame, reference to self, reference to social contacts, and nature of response (i.e. example or definition). Code frequencies were compared for younger and older adults
odds ratio and logistic regression analyses.

Younger and older adults used many of the same words in definitions of emotion terms. Older participants more often referenced situational examples in their definitions than younger participants. As expected, older adults used more low arousal language, referenced the 'self,' and included other persons more in their emotion descriptions than younger persons. Unexpectedly, younger participants used more positive language in descriptions of some positive emotions.

Descriptions of emotion terms might serve a self-regulatory function, such as to facilitate low arousal emotion experiences for older adults or to illustrate important values, such as the greater importance of other persons to emotion experiences for older than younger adults.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is an increasing health issue among pregnant women worldwide. Treatment of hyperglycemia during pregnancy improves outcomes for both mothers and infants. Effectively performing and reviewing self-monitoring of blood glucose is time-consuming for patients and care providers. In the modern era, most people having access to smartphones create opportunities for use of phone-based technologies to improve patient care in chronic diseases. This review aims to investigate the awareness and use of the smartphone application (app) with respect to management of GDM among pregnant women.

Various relevant studies (
= 522) from 3 databases named Pub Med, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar were included. For this, the study involved designing of a 5-stage review framework, which included research question identification, identification of articles, article selection, data collection, and result reporting.

Initial search criteria used a combination of keywords, by which we found out 522 literatures from 3 databases. After screening the titles and abstracts, 249 articles were excluded due to duplicate literatures and 252 articles were excluded due to the following reasons not relevant (
= 172), editorial (
= 43), not in English (
= 7), and abstract only (
= 30). Furthermore, 10 articles were excluded because apps such as MobiGuide, pregnant + app, and GDm health were not mentioned in these articles. selleck compound A total of 11 articles were included for the final analysis.

The mobile apps described in the present study (pregnant +, MobiGuide, and GDm health) provided personalized health care services, patient care improvement, and enhanced patient's compliance toward blood glucose monitoring and treatment.

To describe the clinical course of a case of bilateral Salzmann nodular degeneration (SND) treated with superficial keratectomy (SK) followed by intense pulsed light (IPL) for the treatment of coexisting meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

A 54-year-old man who presented to us complaining of progressive blurred vision associated with foreign body sensation in both eyes because of SND and coexisting MGD. In view of symptoms and visual acuity (VA) deterioration, bilateral SK was performed. Two months after SK, IPL treatment to the face and
expression (MGX) using the E-eye device (E-SWIN, Paris) on days 0, 15, and 45, were performed in both eyes with the aim to avoid recurrence and/or progression of MGD. One year after SK, the patient was asymptomatic and VA was 20/20 in both eyes; however because of worsening of non-invasive tear film break-up time measured on

Scheimpflug
, IPL and MGX were promptly repeated and scheduled every 6 months.

In our case, IPL was a safe and effective option to control MGD in a patient with SND requiring SK with no observed recurrence of SND 2 years after surgery.

To describe vascular access (VA)-related decision-making from the patient perspective, in patients who have already chosen hemodialysis as their renal replacement modality, and identify areas where physicians can improve this experience.

In-person, semi-structured interviews with 15 patients with end-stage kidney disease were systematically analyzed by two independent researchers using thematic analysis. Interviews were conducted until systematic analysis revealed no new themes.

Patients had mean age 57 (range 22-85), with seven males and diverse racial/ethnic/marital status. All (15/15) patients viewed VA as "intertwined and interrelated" with dialysis, prioritized the dialysis, described the VA merely as the "hookup" to life-preserving dialysis and gave it minimal consideration. Three themes were identified consolidation of dialysis and VA, reliance on supportive advisors and communication with physicians. Although 14/15 patients described processes common to medical decision-making, including informaants were minimally engaged in VA decision-making. Educational aids and shared decision-making tools are needed to empower patients to make better-informed, self-efficacious VA decisions. Two new C29 steroids, xidaosterols A (1) and B (2), characterised by a common unusual α-keto-enol functionality bearing A-ring, together with three related known ones (3-5), were isolated from the South China Sea sponge Neopetrosia chaliniformis. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses and comparison with the spectral data reported in the literature, Xidaosterol B is an A-nor derivative of 1.Three undescribed prenylated benzoic acid derivatives berberisides A-C (1-3) and a new clerodane glycoside berberiside D (4) were isolated from Berberis tsarica Aherndt. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive NMR and HR-ESI-MS analysis. The in vitro cytotoxic activities of all isolates were studied against lung carcinoma A549, hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 and breast carcinoma MDA-MB-231 cell lines. Among them, compounds 1 and 4 exhibited anti-proliferative effects against three tumor cell lines with IC50 ranging from 28.97 ± 2.18 to 35.83 ± 0.72 μM.
