both clinical DIs validated in this study showed adequate sensitivity to detect chest injuries on CT and can be safely used to forego chest CT evaluation in patients without any of the criteria that define each DI. Had the Chest CT-All and Chest CT-Major DIs been applied in this cohort, the number of CT scans performed would have decreased by 23.1% and 24.6%, respectively, resulting in cost reduction and avoiding unnecessary radiation exposure.

to compare the postoperative esthetic and healing aspects of postectomy performed by different surgical techniques, based on the evaluation of different specialty expert professionals.

prospective and randomized clinical trial enrolling 149 preschool children with a medical indication for circumcision, divided into three groups postectomy with the hemostatic device Plastibell® (PB group), conventional technique (CV group) and conventional with subcuticular stitches (SC group). Pictures were taken from patients at pre-defined angles on the 30th and 60th postoperative days. Photos were evaluated by three specialists (dermatologist, pediatrician and plastic surgeon), who assigned scores from 1 to 5 regarding the esthetic and healing features at each moment. Grades 4 or 5 from all specialists characterized "best result". Data were analysed to compare the used surgical techniques, the judgments from specialties and postoperative complications.

most of the patients obtained the "best result" regarding healingas diverged among them and over time.
despite being infrequent, urinary incontinence has a huge impact on the quality of life of patients undergoing radical prostatectomy, even with the robotic-assisted technique.

to assess the evolution of urinary symptoms from preoperative to 12 months after robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy.

data was collected from 998 patients who underwent robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy. Demographic data, preoperative and postoperative information on patients were documented. The ICIQ and IPSS questionnaires were also applied preoperatively and after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after the operation. Results Out of 998 patients, 257 correctly completed all questionnaires. The mean age of the patients was 60 ± 0.74 years. We found that the total IPSS increased initially and at 6 months after the operation, it was already lower than the initial preoperative value (7.76 at 6 months vs. 9.90 preoperative, p <0.001), being that questions regarding voiding symptoms were the first to improve followed by the questions IQ do not reach the preoperative levels in the studied interval.
To verify the association between motivation to learn, quality of life, health self-perception, and environmental, school and behavioral resources of students in a private middle school.

This is an observational, analytical, cross-sectional study conducted with 124 adolescents using the following instruments Participant Characterization, Learning Motivation Scale (LMS), Self-perceived Health Questionnaire, Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ (PedsQL) (Self-report) - conducted with the students, and Brazilian Criteria of Economic Classification Questionnaire, PedsQL (Parent Proxy-report) and Home Environment Resources Scale (HERS) - responded by the parents and/or legal guardians. School performance was assessed by the average scores of students in the period investigated. Descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate analyses were performed to assess the association between response and explanatory variables.

The study sample was composed mostly of socioeconomic class A female students who evaluated their health as good or excellent. The Learning Goal domain of the LMS presented higher average results compared with those of the other domains. Most students performed well or very well in the PedsQL and presented positive self-ratings in the three dimensions (physical, emotional and social functioning) of this instrument. Motivation to learn was associated with the quality of life, learning strengths, and self-perceived health of adolescents.

Considering the peculiarity of adolescence and the complexity of the learning process and its consequences, parents and educators play a fundamental role in learning motivation.

Assuming that errors are actually hits attempts, and may mark the child's conflicts with the orthographic system, we investigated the orthographic record of two phonemes that refer to the class of liquids /l/ and /ɾ/.

(1) to compare the orthographic accuracy, in the complex onset and coda syllable positions, of the phonemes spelling /l/ and /ɾ/; (2) to verify, among the errors, their most frequent typesr.

We analyzed 53 textual productions of children of the 1st year of the cycle I of the elementary school of a public school in a city of the state of São Paulo. To respond to the objectives, initially all occurrences of the phonemes /l/ and /ɾ/ were separated in the complex onset position and coda syllabic position. Then, the records were categorized as hits and errors. Errors were also classified as omission, transposition and substitution.

In the complex syllabic onset and syllable coda, a higher number of hits was found when compared to the number of errors. As for the types of errors, in the complex onset position, all corresponded to omissions; in the coda, omissions prevailed, followed by substitutions and transpositions.

The results suggest that the child's perception of the relations between phonemes and graphemes does not depend directly on these relations, since this correspondence may be affected by other phonological aspects disregarded in these relations, such as syllable positions.

Previous studies have questioned whether the triceps brachii muscle tendon (TBMT) has a double or single insertion on the ulna. Aiming to provide an answer, we describe the anatomy of the TBMT and review a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) series of the elbow.

Forty-one elbows were dissected to assess the details of the triceps brachii insertion. Elbow plastination slices were analyzed to determine whether there was a space on the TBMT. Magnetic resonance imaging from the records of the authors were also obtained to demonstrate the appearance of the pre-tricipital space on MRI.

A virtual space on the medial aspect near the TBTM insertion site in the olecranon was consistently found on anatomic dissections. It was a distal pre-tricipital space. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated the appearance of the pre-tricipital space on MRI, and its extension was measured longitudinally either in elbow flexion or extension. There was no statistically significant difference between the measurements of this space in the right and left elbows or between flexion and extension (p > 0.05). The coefficient of variation was <10% for all measurements.

To evaluate and compare the effects of homologous and heterologous PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) on the quality and speed of skin wound healing, compared to Poor Platelet Plasma (PPP).

Twenty-one male adult rabbits were used; two for preparing homologous PRP, with the rest of them separated randomly in three groups, according to the treatment received PPP - control (n=5), homologous PRP (n=7), heterologous (n=7). Excisional skin wounds were made on the back of the animals, for the application of homologous and heterologous PPP and PRP. At the 14th post-operative day (POD), the animals were subjected to a new wound, and the treatments were inverted. The wounds were evaluated macroscopically and histologically.

A larger percentage of scar retraction was observed on the group treated with heterologous PRP, compared to homologous PRP, at the third POD, an increase of 25.03% (p=0.01). No other statistically significant differences among treatments were observed. Among every group, skin healing was efficient, without local adverse effects.

Heterologous PRP contributed with more tissue retraction at the beginning of the wound healing process. After this, there were no differences on the wound healing skin process treated with PRP or PPP. However, our findings suggest the presence of others plasmatic factors, besides platelets, which could also contribute to the wound healing process, and thus, should be further investigated.

To modify a surgical catheterization method using the bent needle introducer in small animals.

Eight-week-old male Lewis rats were used in the study. A needle introducer was created by bending a 21G injection needle at 45°. The bent needle introducer was used for catheter insertion into the left femoral artery of the rats under anesthesia. As a control, a catheter was directly inserted into the blood vessel without the introducer. Fenretinide nmr The insertion time of each method was measured. Blood pressure and heart rate were measured 24 h after catheter insertion using the telemetry system.

Using the introducer, the catheter was successfully inserted within a short time in all rats. Without the introducer, a longer duration was required for catheter insertion. The frequency of the insertion with no catheter-based errors with the introducer tended to be higher than that without the introducer. The mean arterial pressure and heart rate 24 h after catheter insertion in each group were almost the same.

We developed a surgical catheterization method using the introducer in small animals. This could potentially reduce the frequency of the insertion with catheter-based errors and insertion time.
