Results A total of 286 valid answers were retrieved, divided into people with regular (n = 101) and non-regular (n = 185) ayahuasca use. Studies with repeated ayahuasca administration and extended follow-ups are essential to clarify the nature of ayahuasca's therapeutic effects and to guide future clinical research.Vibrotactile feedback training may be used as a complementary strategy to reduce time in demanding postures in manual handling. This study evaluated the short- and medium-term effects of concurrent posture-correction vibrotactile feedback training on trunk inclination exposure in real manual sorting work. Fifteen warehouse workers completed the training and the follow-up sessions. Trunk inclination angles were recorded using the ambulatory Smart Workwear System. Questionnaires were used for assessing system usability, perceived physical exertion, and work ability. The results showed reduced time in trunk inclination >30°, >45°, and >60°, and reductions in the 90th, 95th, and 99th percentile trunk inclination angles, when receiving feedback and immediately after feedback withdrawal. No significant reduction was retained after one and three weeks. The wearer's comfort was scored high, and the feedback did not increase the perceived cognitive demands. No significant effects attributed to changed trunk inclination exposure were observed for perceived physical exertion or work ability. The training program has the potential of contributing to reduced trunk inclination exposure in the short term. Future studies are needed to evaluate if improvements in the feedback training can transfer the short-term results to retained median- and long-term effects.Practitioner summary A two-day training program with concurrent posture-correction vibrotactile feedback can contribute to reduced exposure of trunk inclination in real manual sorting work in the short term. More research is needed on how to design the feedback training programs in order to be effective in the long term.
Mass spectrometry-based proteomics reveals dynamic molecular signatures underlying phenotypes reflecting normal and perturbed conditions in living systems. Although valuable on its own, the proteome has only one level of moleclar information, with the genome, epigenome, transcriptome, and metabolome, all providing complementary information. Multi-omic analysis integrating information from one or more of these other domains with proteomic information provides a more complete picture of molecular contributors to dynamic biological systems.

Here, we discuss the improvements to mass spectrometry-based technologies, focused on peptide-based, bottom-up approaches that have enabled deep, quantitative characterization of complex proteomes. These advances are facilitating the integration of proteomics data with other 'omic information, providing a more complete picture of living systems. We also describe the current state of bioinformatics software and approaches for integrating proteomics and other 'omics data, critical for enabling new discoveries driven by multi-omics.

Despite strong association of elevated lipoprotein (a) (Lp(a)) levels with incident coronary and cerebrovascular disease, data for incident peripheral artery disease (PAD) are less robust. The main objective of the present systematic review was to analyze the association between elevated Lp(a) levels and PAD outcomes.

This systematic review was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. A literature search was performed to detect randomized clinical trials or observational studies with a cohort design that evaluated the association between Lp(a) levels and PAD outcomes.

Fifteen studies including 493,650 subjects were identified and considered eligible for this systematic review. This systematic review showed that the vast majority of the studies reported a significant association between elevated Lp(a) levels and the risk of PAD outcomes. The elevated Lp(a) levels were associated with a higher risk of incident claudication (RR 1.20), PAD progression (HR 1.41), restenosis (HR 6.10), death and hospitalization related to PAD (HR 1.37), limb amputation (HR 22.75), and lower limb revascularization (HR 1.29 and 2.90). In addition, the presence of elevated Lp(a) values were associated with a higher risk of combined PAD outcomes, with HRs in a range between 1.14 and 2.80, despite adjusting for traditional risk factors. Heterogeneity of results can be explained by different patient populations studied and varying Lp(a) cut-off points of Lp(a) analyzed.

Over half of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients develop psychotic symptoms, and PD psychosis (PDP) is associated with significant distress to patients, caregiver burden, and impairs quality of life. Pharmacological therapy is limited to atypical antipsychotics.

This review will summarize efficacy but will focus on the safety of antipsychotics for treating PDP, and in particular the off-target safety issues including cognitive impairment, sleep disturbance, cardiovascular effects, and motor function.

Pimavanserin is the only medication approved in the US for treating PDP, however clozapine is also considered efficacious. Despite lack of substantial evidence for efficacy, quetiapine is commonly used to treat PDP. Despite the effectiveness of pimavanserin and clozapine for treating PDP, a need exists for additional pharmacological agents that are effective for PDP while providing an acceptable safety and tolerability profile. Medications to treat PDP should avoid worsening motor function, and also minimize ssociated with PD and PDP would be ideal, and low rate of discontinuation due to AEs is desirable. Lastly, medications that can be used safely in combination with other pharmacological agents is essential.We investigated disparities in diabetes between the US-born and foreign-born populations using three diabetes measures diagnosed diabetes, undiagnosed diabetes, and total diabetes, either diagnosed or undiagnosed diabetes. We analyzed adults aged 30-84 years drawn from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2009-2018 (n = 21,390). Of cohorts in 2009-2018, foreign-born adults had significantly higher age-standardized prevalence of diagnosed (12.6% vs. 10.6%) and undiagnosed diabetes (4.5% vs. 2.6%), and total diabetes (17.1% vs. 13.2%) than US-born adults. Results from logistic and multinomial regressions adjusting for age, sex, race/ethnicity, limited access to healthcare and BMI showed that the foreign-born had significantly higher odds of total diabetes (OR 1.25, 95% CI 1.04-1.50) and undiagnosed diabetes (OR 1.83, 95% CI 1.44-2.32) compared to the US-born. There was no significant difference in diagnosed diabetes by nativity (OR 1.12, 95% CI 0.96-1.53). Our results show that foreign-born adults were at higher risk of diabetes than US-born adults, and the difference by nativity was largely attributable to BMI and racial/ethnic composition. In addition, we demonstrated the importance of choosing measures of diabetes in studying diabetes mainly due to the foreign-born group's high prevalence of undiagnosed diabetes, which biases the prevalence of diabetes downward when diagnosed diabetes is used.Spectral Doppler and plethysmographic waveforms vary significantly in the presence of circulatory assist devices.
