In this present work, we successfully prepared aminated silica (ASiO2) from rice husk ash (RHA) and functionalized with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES). Physical and chemical properties of the synthesized material were investigated by various techniques SEM-EDX, XPS, FTIR, TGA. The surface area of RHA was 223 m2/g, while for ASiO2 was 101 m2/g. Molecular level DFT calculations revealed that the functionalization of ASiO2 resulted in a significant decrease in the HOMO-LUMO energy gap, a reduction in hardness, and a consequent increase in charge transfer characteristics. The adsorption behavior at low pressure (1 atm.) of aminated silica on different gases CO2, CH4, H2, and N2 at temperatures 77, 273, 298 K was studied. The adsorption of hydrogen was reported for the first time on aminated silica with an excellent adsorption capacity of 1.2 mmol/g. The ASiO2 exhibited excellent performance in terms of gas separation in binary mixtures of CO2/CH4, CO2/N2 and CO2/H2 at 273, and 298 K, respectively. The catalyst further exhibits high stability during three cycles with less than 10% variation in the separation capacity.Sudden cardiac death among top athletes is very rare, however, it is 2-4 times more frequent than in the age-matched control population. In the present study, the electrophysiological consequences of long-term exercise training were investigated on Ca2+ homeostasis and ventricular repolarization, together with the underlying alterations of ion channel expression, in a rat athlete's heart model. 12-week swimming exercise-trained and control Wistar rats were used. Electrophysiological data were obtained by using ECG, patch clamp and fluorescent optical measurements. Protein and mRNA levels were determined by the Western immunoblot and qRT-PCR techniques. Animals in the trained group exhibited significantly lower resting heart rate, higher incidence of extrasystoles and spontaneous Ca2+ release events. The Ca2+ content of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) and the Ca2+ transient amplitude were significantly larger in the trained group. Intensive physical training is associated with elevated SR Ca2+ content, which could be an important part of physiological cardiac adaptation mechanism to training. However, it may also sensitize the heart for the development of spontaneous Ca2+ release and extrasystoles. Training-associated remodeling may promote elevated incidence of life threatening arrhythmias in top athletes.Zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (Zn-TPP) solubilized by GroEL protein cage was prepared as a supramolecular mimic of carbonic anhydrase (CA) for CO2 capture. It is shown that the soluble Zn-TPP-GroEL complex can be formed easily by detergent dialysis. The Zn-TPP/GroEL binding ratio was found to increase with their dialysis ratio until reaching the maximum of about 30 porphyrins per protein cage. Moreover, the complex showed hydrase activity that catalyzes the CO2 hydration in HCO3- and H+. It is further seen that the catalytic activity of Zn-TPP-GroEL was about one-half of that of a bovine CA at 25 °C. On the other hand, as the temperature was increased to 60 °C close to an industrial CO2 absorption temperature, the natural enzyme lost function while Zn-TPP-GroEL exhibited better catalytic performance indicative of a higher thermal stability. Finally, we demonstrate that the GroEL-solubilized Zn-TPP is able to accelerate the precipitation of CO2 in the form of CaCO3 and has better long-term performance than the bovine CA. Thus a new type of nano-caged system mimicking natural CAs for potential applications in carbon capture has been established.Water infiltration into the soil profile are related to the condition of the soil texture, soil bulk density, and water intensity, it is also affected by the physicochemical properties of the water. In this study, we tested the effect of two different chemical properties of water (groundwater for irrigation and naturally accumulated water) on water infiltration in seven different mixed soil consisting of different ratios of feldspathic sandstone and aeolian sandy soil (10, 51, 21, 11, 12, 15, 01) through laboratory soil column testing. Our results show that when the textures of the mixed soils are silty loam and sandy loam (ratios of feldspathic sandstone to aeolian sandy soil 10, 51, 21, 11 and 12), the infiltration time of the naturally accumulated water is significantly longer than the infiltration time of the groundwater for irrigation. When the mixed soil texture is loamy sand and sand (the ratio of feldspathic sandstone to sandy soil is 15 and 01), there was no significant difference in the infiltration time of the naturally accumulated water and of the groundwater for irrigation. Using water with the same chemical properties, the infiltration time in different ratios of mixed soil decreases from 10, 51, 21, 11, 12, 15, to 01. Using the same feldspathic sandstone to aeolian sandy soil ratio, the cumulative infiltration using naturally accumulated water is greater than that using groundwater for irrigation, and the difference in cumulative infiltration is greatest when the ratio of feldspathic sandstone to sandy soil is 21. The relationship between the cumulative infiltration and elapsed time is consistent with the Logarithmic model. The changes in wetting front migration distance are consistent with the changes in the cumulative infiltration. The infiltration characteristics of water in the mixed soil are affected by a combination of water chemical property and soil texture.Alterations in macronutrient intake can have profound effects on energy intake and whole-body metabolism. For example, reducing protein intake increases energy expenditure, increases insulin sensitivity and decreases body weight in rodents. Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) signaling in the brain is necessary for the metabolic effects of dietary protein restriction and has more recently been proposed to promote protein preference. However, the neuron populations through which FGF21 elicits these effects are unknown. Here, we demonstrate that deletion of β-klotho in glutamatergic, but not GABAergic, neurons abrogated the effects of dietary protein restriction on reducing body weight, but not on improving insulin sensitivity in both diet-induced obese and lean mice. Specifically, FGF21 signaling in glutamatergic neurons is necessary for protection against body weight gain and induction of UCP1 in adipose tissues associated with dietary protein restriction. However, β-klotho expression in glutamatergic neurons was dispensable for the effects of dietary protein restriction to increase insulin sensitivity. In addition, we report that FGF21 administration does not alter protein preference, but instead promotes the foraging of other macronutrients primarily by suppressing simple sugar consumption. This work provides important new insights into the neural substrates and mechanisms behind the endocrine control of metabolism during dietary protein dilution.Xanthomonas oryzae is a serious pathogen causing bacterial leaf blight (BLB) disease in rice, markedly reducing its yield. In this study, the rice chorismate mutase (OsCM) gene was overexpressed in a bacterial leaf blight-susceptible rice line to investigate the functional role of OsCM in response to bacterial leaf blight stress. We reported that overexpression of OsCM altered the downstream pathway of aromatic amino acids, mitigating pathogen stress by altering stress-responsive genes and hormonal accumulation. Phenotypic evaluation showed that the lesion length in the transgenic line was significantly lesser than that in the wild-type, suggesting greater resistance in the transgenic line. Further analysis revealed that OsCM expression induced phenylalanine accumulation and suppressed tyrosine accumulation in response to bacterial leaf blight stress. Selleck Bobcat339 Furthermore, bacterial leaf blight stress induced genes downstream of the phenylpropanoid pathway in conjunction with OsCM, suggesting that the phenylpropanoid pathway is dependent on OsCM gene expression. We reported high SA and low JA accumulation in response to bacterial leaf blight stress in the transgenic line. This higher SA accumulation suggested that SA induces immune responses by functioning as a promoter of nonexpresser pathogenesis-related genes 1 (NPR1) transcriptional regulation. Xa7 expression was induced with increase in nonexpresser pathogenesis-related genes 1, which is thought to be responsible for Xa7 expression, which is responsible for mitigating bacterial leaf blight stress. The purpose of this study is to compare recreationally physically active females and males with regard to spine, pelvis and lower limb joints peak angles in each plane of motion during a single leg squat (SLS). The second aim is to investigate the relationship between kinematics and SLS depth in females and males. Fifty-eight healthy, young adults performed 5 repetitions of a single right leg squat to maximal depth while keeping their balance. Kinematic data were obtained using an optical motion capture system. At the hip, greater adduction and greater internal rotation were observed in females than in males. Females had more extended spines and less outward bended knees throughout the SLS than did men. In males, squat depth was significantly, positively correlated with the maximal angle of the ankle (r = 0.60, p  less then  0.001), the knee (r = 0.87, p  less then  0.001), the hip (r = 0.73, p  less then  0.001) and the pelvis (r = 0.40, p = 0.02) in the sagittal plane. A positive significant correlation was found between SLS depth and maximal angle of the knee (r = 0.88, p  less then  0.001) and the ankle (r = 0.53, p = 0.01) in the sagittal plane in females. Males and females used different motor strategies at all levels of the kinematic chain during SLS.We evaluated the effect of the antral follicle count (AFC) on ovarian follicular dynamics, pregnancy rates, progesterone concentrations, and transcriptional patterns of genes in Nelore cattle (Bos taurus indicus) after a timed artificial insemination (TAI) programme. Cows were separated based on the AFC, and those with a high AFC showed a larger (P  less then  0.0001) ovarian diameter and area than those with a very low AFC. Females with a very low AFC exhibited a larger (P  less then  0.01) diameter of the dominant follicle at TAI (13.6 ± 0.3 vs. 12.2 ± 0.4 mm) and a tendency (P = 0.06) to have different serum progesterone concentrations (2.9 ± 0.3 vs. 2.1 ± 0.3 ng/mL; on day 18, considering day 0 as the beginning of the synchronization protocol) than those with a high AFC. The pregnancy rate was higher (P ≤ 0.05) in animals with a very low (57.9%) and low (53.1%) AFC than in those with a high AFC (45.2%). The expression of genes related to intercellular communication, meiotic control, epigenetic modulation, cell division, follicular growth, cell maintenance, steroidogenesis and cellular stress response was assessed on day 5. In females with a low AFC, 8 and 21 genes in oocytes and cumulus cells, respectively, were upregulated (P  less then  0.05), while 3 and 6 genes in oocytes and cumulus cells, respectively, were downregulated. The results described here will help elucidate the differences in ovarian physiology and the reproductive success of Bos indicus females with a low or high AFC.
