Buying a Double Buggy From Birth
There are a lot of things to consider when selecting the perfect double buggy from birth. Katie Billingsley, a postnatal retreat expert from the Fourth Trimester, gave us her advice on everything ranging from seating options and age groups, to folding mechanisms and storage.
A must-have purchase for families with active children This buggy will grow with your family from twins through to toddlers. It's lightweight and has great maneuverability and can tackle uneven terrain easily.
What kind of buggy do you want?
Double buggys are great for transporting two children at the same time, even if they are not of the same age. They can also serve as prams. Each seat comes with a reclining mechanism so that your children can sit or lie down in various positions. A lot of them have plenty of storage space for everything from drinks and snacks to wipes and nappies. They are usually light, fold easily, and compact enough to fit in your car's boot. If you drive a lot it's important to make sure the buggy is easy to manoeuvre using the folded wheels, as well as to get it out and back into your car boot.
The most common type of double buggy is the side by side one, which you've probably seen on other mums pushchairs or even ridden in as a child yourself. They are ideal for older siblings who want to keep up with you, or for twins. They usually have a large number of seating options (including "cinema" seats) for your children to pick from. These are usually easy to navigate, and if you choose a model with a soft suspension, they are able to effortlessly handle kerbs.
Tandem buggies, which are more simple to turn than side-by sides, are also very popular. The second seat is positioned behind the first and not on top. The seats are usually larger and heavier than a traditional side by side, so you should check whether they can fit through doors or on public transport. They can be used for twins, a baby and toddler or three kids with the inclusion of a buggy board.
Lastly there are the'single-to-double' convertibles which can be used as a single pushchair from birth then convert to a double by attaching a second seat, carrycot or car seat to their clever frame. They are generally more expensive than side by sides or tandem buggies, but they offer a lot of versatility and a good return on investment. They are easy to steer and feature an ample storage basket. They can also handle uneven surfaces. Some models even come with built-in ride-on boards and 'cinema seating' for your child's older.
Do you have twins?
Whether your children are twins or siblings with different age groups, a double buggy is the best way to move them around. There are two main kinds of double buggy - side-by-side buggies where your children are seated side by side, and tandem buggies where one child is placed above the other. Both will accommodate 2 fixed seats, but side-byside buggies are typically narrower in size to fit through doors. Tandems are typically larger overall. They can also accommodate a carrycot and toddler seat.
Do you have children?
A younger sibling can be an enormous responsibility at first, especially when you must tend to the baby. They might be a bit irritated when they are in a baby carrier as you push the older one along and so having a double buggy from the start can make things easier. It will also give your child a sense of pride as they become a 'big brother or sister' and help them settle into their new role.
The side-by-side double buggies can be a good option for twins, as both children will have the same view. However, they are bulky and heavy. The Leclerc B-AGILE DUAL is a sleek double buggy that features an innovative frame that can be expanded widthwise and can accommodate two seats fixed. It also offers different configuration options such as using the second seat to create the bassinet.
Alternatively, we recommend the Mountain Buggy Double Trailblazer for active families who like to explore. This innovative buggy starts off as a single pushchair but it can then be converted into a double by adding the place of a second seat, a carrycot or a car seat (depending on the model). Its super-smooth ride is ideal for rough terrain and comes with a variety of thoughtful features to keep everyone comfortable.
Do you require a travel system?
Double buggies are an excellent way to transport your children in a comfortable way. However they aren't required for every family. Depending on your lifestyle and the age gap between your kids you may be able to make do using a single stroller with certain attachments such as baby carriers and toddler harnesses which allow you to transport your child around on their back or in front of you.
There are three types of double buggies: tandem side-by-side, and convertible. Side-by-side buggies come with two seats positioned next to each other, so your children can see each other. However, they are typically larger than a single pushchair and can be tricky to maneuver around kerbs. Tandem buggies are a compact option with a seat at the front and a second one at the back. However they can be heavy and lengthy to push.
Convertible double buggies allow you to transform a single stroller into double buggy by attaching an infant car seat to the frame. This allows you to keep your newborn snuggled up safely in their car seat until they're ready to move into the main buggy seat. The Uppababy V2 is an excellent example of this - it can be used for twins, a toddler and one or more children using the optional PiggyBack Board.
If your children have grown older and have more endurance, a double-buggy can also be used to accompany them on bicycle rides or day trips where they might prefer walking. It's important to keep in mind that they may not always want to be in a buggy, and they could easily be tired and disgruntled when they are on longer excursions.
Before you decide to purchase a double stroller, think about the above factors and your family's unique circumstances. linked internet page and reliable double buggy can make your life easier, especially when you need to navigate through busy streets or crowded malls.
