Choosing a Double Pushchair With Car Seat
Double pushchairs are perfect for families with twins, or an infant and toddler. Double pushchairs can accommodate two children in one seat, and a carrycot can be added in the event of need.
They typically come with a large number of seating configurations and are able to fit through most hallways or doors. They're slightly longer than side-byside buggies however they are more stable and can be used on the kerbs.
Easy to Manoeuvre
When it comes to choosing the most suitable double pushchair for your family there are some things you should consider. First, you should look at the weight and size of the pushchair, and also its folding mechanism wheels, as well as the fabrications and wheels. If you can, buy a double stroller with car seat manufactured by a reputable company. This will ensure the best resale price in the future.
There are two main types of double pushchairs: tandem as well as side-by-side. Side-by-side buggies come with fixed seats that sit side-by-side, and they can be suitable for twins or children of different age. They are larger than single pushchairs, and may have difficulty fitting through narrow passageways or doors. In addition, they can be a bit long and heavy to push, particularly when the children are in car seats in the front.
Tandem buggies are typically more flexible as they provide the option of a variety of seating arrangements, including the option to have one or both of the seats facing either forward or backwards. They are more expensive than side-by-side pushchairs but can be easier to fold and maneuver. Many also come with an enormous shopping basket that can be accessed even when the seats are fully reclined position.
A locking front wheel is another important feature to look for in a double pushchair. This will let you navigate difficult terrain and transitions while also making sure your children are secure and comfortable. Take a look at the storage space and determine if it is easily accessible. This is important when you have to do a lot of grocery shopping with two kids.
Check how easy the buckles and straps are to operate when buying a double stroller with car seat. Some buckles are simple and require only one hand to operate however, others might require two hands for operation. Find out if it comes with an padded strap for the crotch or a shoulder height adjustment. These features are essential to keeping your child safe.
Easy to fold
When choosing a double pushchair with car seat, it's important to think about how easy it will be to fold and to store. The most efficient double strollers are fast and easy to collapse even with a child in each seat. They are also compact, making them ideal for urban living or parents with limited storage.
There are two types of double pushchairs, tandem and side-by-side. Side-by-side buggys tend to be narrower than single strollers, making them ideal for manoeuvring in narrow doorways and narrow pathways. They can be heavy and long, making them difficult to push up a hill, or on the kerbs. Some models have an additional seat in the undercarriage which can be handy to shop or for children who prefer to sit and watch their surroundings.
Tandem pushchairs are typically wider and longer than side-byside models. However, they are extremely versatile and can be adapted to work with most infant car seats. Some double buggy brands offer a rumble-seat and a bassinet for growing families. The top rated double buggy brands offer an array of options, including seats that are reversible, allowing you to change the seating direction according to your preferences.
The weight of the double buggy is important, especially when it's being used for a newborn baby in a carrycot. Some of the best double pushchairs have an ample capacity for both seats and some allow you to add a third seat on the frame (although this isn't suitable for all babies).
Look out for features like recline options, reversible seating and leg rests that can be adjusted to help your kids get comfortable. Some of the best double strollers will come with a parent tray built in and is a great place to keep your keys and phone. They'll usually come with at least two cup holders, and an ample basket to store everything you need to shop. You'll find some models with suspension and a foot break that can make pushing the twins much easier, particularly over uneven terrain.
Easy to store
Look for a double stroller that folds compactly. They tend to be a bit wider than single buggies but they can be pushed through doors of standard size and take less space in your boot or car. Some models include a carrying bag to make storage easier.
A great choice is the UPPAbaby Vista V2 Double. It has the side-by-side seating layout, with a variety of seating options including two infant car seats. (Car seats and adapters are sold separately) and a bassinet. It also comes with a huge storage basket, rain and UPF 50 canopy, telescoping handlebar and comfortable seats. You can also add a board to the cart, allowing an additional child to join in the fun.
There are many alternatives. Jeep's TwinRoo+ is an excellent option for outdoor enthusiasts as it can be used either as an individual buggy or a double buggy. It has a fantastic suspension and air-filled tyres. It can even be adapted to running, which isn't often the case with double pushchairs. However, some parents find that the padded back isn't very supportive and that the cup holders on the back of the seat aren't very sturdy.
Another great option is an alternative is the Joovy Twin Xpand Car Seat Frame Double that is similar in design to some of our more expensive award winners. It folds compactly and can accommodate both infant car seats and toddler seats that can be altered to serve as bassinets which is ideal for twins or children with different ages. It can also hold a third child seat with an additional rumble seat.
Evenflo Pivot Xpand Double is an affordable option that is similar to our award winners. It also comes with the option of a third seat, which can be added with a rumble-seat (sold separately). It has reclined chairs that can be adjusted and a cup holder for the parent. It has a weight capacity of 50 pounds per seat, which means it is not suitable for children who are very tall.
Pushchairs And Prams with an automobile seat is a good choice for children. The seats should be padded and the harnesses need to be simple to use. The straps should be easily adjustable to height, and the buckles need not require two hands. They should be strong enough to stand up to repeated use. If the buckles are difficult to operate, they could be unsafe and must be replaced. The seats should also be capable of recline and come with UPF 50+ canopies that have peekaboo windows. The reclining feature can be used by babies to nap or older toddlers to look around the world.
Tandem buggies are typically built as a single buggy, but have adapters that let you add a second seat. They are smaller in size than strollers that are side by side but are too large for some doorways. These buggies are also heavy and difficult to maneuver between kerbs.
Side-by-side buggies on the other hand are usually smaller than tandem models. They are easier to navigate and can be adapted to older twins. However, they're more expensive and might not fit through all doors. The joovy qool double bundle is an example of a side-byside model that can be set up with the seats facing into each other or forward. It can be used with car seats for infants and comes with a bassinet, too.
Most of the models we tested had a one-step procedure for attaching and detaching the car seat from the frame. This is a huge plus for parents who are on the move and don't want to muddle through by completing multiple steps. Some models, such as the Doona and the BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Combo, feature an attachment that requires clicking in place and putting on straps. This additional step increases the likelihood of the car seat being set up incorrectly. Some strollers were difficult to adjust the crotch or shoulder straps. Likewise, some buckles for car seats could be difficult to operate.
