How to Fix Rolls Royce Dawn Key Fob Problems
There are few automobiles that can generate the kind of involuntary gasp that the Rolls-Royce Dawn does. Even with the cloth roof down, it's still stunning.
It is packed with all the usual gadgets, including motorised doors that can be closed at the push of a button. Umbrellas are hidden in the door's openings. It also comes with a smooth V12 engine that is driven at a near-silent pace.
Dead Coin Battery
The most frequent reason for a key fob that does not be able to lock or unlock doors is a dead coin battery. It is also the most simple to fix since it can be replaced in just a few minutes. Use a new coin battery that is the same voltage, size and specification as the original to avoid a damaged battery. Also, do not use the battery that has been exposed to clean water (rain or clean tap water, or soda) as this may harm the internal chip. If the key fob isn't working you can try reprogramming it using an original key or visit an authorized dealer.
Other reasons why the key fob might not be working include Water Damage, Receiver Module issues, Signal Interference and a bad electronic chip.
Poor Battery Contact
The button cell battery inside the key fob of your Rolls Royce Dawn can lose its charge and stop functioning. It is simple to replace the battery. Be sure to only replace the battery with one of the same size and voltage. If you're not sure what type of battery to buy, you can consult the staff at the local auto parts store.
The corrosion of the terminals of the batteries in the terminals of a Rolls Royce Dawn may also hinder it from being able to start. This problem occurs with older batteries, especially when they haven't been charged for a long period of time. A multimeter can be used for checking the conductivity to determine if your terminals on your battery have rust. Set the meter on Ohms, and place one of the probes against the negative terminal of your Dawn. Then, you can connect the other probe to a bare metal part of the chassis or engine. The reading should be near zero ohms.
Another sign of a weak battery in your Dawn is clicking noise when you attempt to start the engine. This is due to the starter solenoid, the accessories and the engine require low voltage while the starter solenoid requires high current.
Water Damage
If you've accidentally dropped your Rolls Royce Dawn key fob in the sink or left it sitting in the rain, it's likely to be suffering from water damage. The electronic chip is protected by rubber sealings but prolonged exposure to clean water or salty ocean water could cause it to cease functioning.
Over time, moisture can cause corrosion, which results in faulty circuitry which can cause issues with the car's security and ignition systems. It can also interfere in the signal transmission, leading to the failure of remote keyless systems. The key fob can lock your vehicle or activate the immobiliser system, leaving you stranded.
To prevent this from happening, remove the key fob from its case and wipe it down with a a damp towel to remove any moisture. You can also put the key in a bag containing uncooked silica gel or rice to absorb any moisture. After drying the key should function normally again. If the key fails to work, it is most likely that the 12 volt batteries or receiver modules are the cause. These need to be replaced.
Issues with Receiver Modules
If you've already tried a different battery, but the remote key fob still isn't working, it could be time to replace the receiver module. rolls royce keys receives radio frequency signals from your key fob, and converts them into commands for the vehicle's electronic system. If the chip inside the module is damaged the module won't be able to communicate with other modules of the vehicle. You'll need a scanner in order to identify the issue. It will be able to show what the computer on the vehicle is telling it.
The metal clips that secure the battery in the key fob of your Dawn complete the circuit and keep it in place. The clips may corrode and make the battery's contacts ineffective. When replacing the battery, be sure that it's exactly the same size and voltage as the original. Otherwise it could cause damage to the chip inside the key fob.
Water damage may be the cause for the key fob suddenly stopped working. The key fob may be damaged by water if it is dropped in water or soaked in soapy water. It is possible to clean the key fob using electronic cleaners or isopropyl alcohol but you will have to replace the chip if it is fried.
Signal Interference
Signal interference could cause your Dawn keyfob to stop working. The interference could be caused by objects that are within the vicinity of your car or by weather conditions, or transmitters that operate on the same frequency band. It could be caused by a malfunctioning receiver module. If you are unable to reduce the interference, you might consider using an extender or signal booster.
If the button cell's battery is completely drained, it's time to replace it. The battery should have the same voltage, size and type as the original battery to ensure that your vehicle is compatible with the key fob. If your key fob begins to fail intermittently, it may indicate the chip is fried.
If you've tried the previous suggestions but still aren't able to get your key to open or lock, it's likely time to contact a professional locksmith. A reputable locksmith will be able to assist you with any Rolls Royce key fob or key programming needs, such as reprogramming and replacement. They will be able to give you an estimate for the work required. You can ask the locksmith for their rates and credentials prior to hiring them.
Dead 12 Volt Battery
The 12 volt Battery in your Rolls Royce Dawn provides high current to start the engine, but also for all onboard computers and accessories. If the battery is dead or the flow of current to the engine is interrupted because of corrosion on the battery terminals or ground connection, all electronics onboard including the remote keyless system will cease to function.
To test the condition of your Dawn battery, you can perform a conductivity test with a multimeter. To accomplish this you must disconnect the negative cable from the battery and then apply one probe of the multimeter to the ground wire of the battery, and the other probe to any exposed metal part of the vehicle's engine, body or chassis. The reading should be in the vicinity of zero in ohms.
If the results are not satisfactory You can replace the battery with another one of the same voltage, size and specifications. Make sure that the replacement is fully charged before you use it. The most frequent cause of the battery failing is internal degradation as a result of the aging process. However, it can also be a result of parasitic draw or if your vehicle has been in a garage for a long period of time.
