Which double pushchair sale Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around in a light double pushchair, particularly if you have children of varying ages. They are generally easy to steer, fold and transport up and down the stairs.
This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom with adjustable reclining, as well as massive UPF 50+ canopy with windows that peek out. It also comes with a frame that expands in the width to accommodate an additional car seat or another passenger.
Side-by-Side
The majority of the lightweight double pushchairs that we tested are side-by-side designs and are generally recommended for kids who can sit up unassisted because they tend to be lacking car seat integration. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent choices. They offer adjustable recline for both seats, a big canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They are also simple to maneuver despite their larger footprint. They are great for parents who worry about fitting through doors.
The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its unique frame that expands widthways to add another seat, making it smaller than most other side-by-side pushchairs available. It is able to fit through doors that are standard and is easy to maneuver in public transportation. It also doubles as a jogger which is great when you're planning to use it with a baby carrier or infant car seat. It's available in a range of fun colors.
Another excellent side-by-side lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, that offers more customization through a modular frame. The clever design allows you to convert it into a single or double buggy by adding two carrycots or car seats for children. It can even accommodate twins. It's a fantastic and practical choice for families with growing children, and the UPPAbaby also is among the lightest and stylish umbrella strollers available.
If best twin buggy looking for a compact lightweight double, try the egg2 which folds to the size of a tiny suitcase. It can be used as a single or a double by adding two carrycots or infant car seats, and our home testers were awed by how simple and sleek it was to use even when stuffed with children.
Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't 100% foolproof, howeverIf your children are the same age or stage they may still fight over who is allowed to ride in which seat. If they're different heights, a tandem model could be better for them, as it will allow them to face each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models are more appropriate for siblings with similar ages tandem pushchairs are light and lightweight, and are a different kind of pushchair with their own appeal. Some can accommodate an extra car seat, while some have reversible seats. Others even have an extra carrycot or a reclined seat that can be flipped in the middle. They are larger and easy to get in and out of. However, their baskets tend to be smaller than those on single buggies. Many have larger canopies as well as peekaboo windows, and even padded leg cushions.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another great example of a lightweight tandem that offers great value. Its fabrics feel a little less premium than some of our other top-rated doubles however, it still looks and feels great and is user-friendly. One of the most impressive aspects about it is its single-handed fold. Although it will require some practice, Kirstie in our Lab declared it to be "genius". It can't be folded with the carrycot attached however, the mechanism for attaching and removing it is simple and fast.
Tandem lightweight double pushchairs will generally have tighter turns than side-byside models, however, they can be more challenging to drive over bumps and uneven surfaces. They can also be slower to accelerate and are heavier to move. This can put strain on your back.
A convertible double buggy is a different alternative. It's initially a single, but you can add adapters to make it a double. This can include a second seat or carrycot in front or children can be seated side-byside. Some can also consider including a buggyboard that can help an older child keep pace with younger siblings or brothers.
The Uppababy Vista V2 can be converted into a twin-sized pram by purchasing additional cocoons for PS59 each. These cocoons provide a flat space for newborns. They can be placed in a row or joined to each other's faces and you can use them with the infant car seat that comes with the pushchair (as as long as you select an appropriate one). Because they're made from high-quality materials, these kinds of buggies with dual-use capabilities can be used for a long time without showing any wear, meaning they have an excellent resale value.
Single-to-Double
Ideal for families who love to be outdoors and are looking to upgrade their single stroller, this lightweight double buggy transforms into a jogger with the help of an impressive kit that comes with air-filled tyres and all-wheel suspension. It also handles rough terrain well and it's a tandem triple that is ideal for twins or children of different ages. It's also a good choice for parents who are looking for a stylish design that's as sleek as a single, and comes in a variety of fabrics.
We loved the way this iCandy model folds up using a single-hand mechanism that's extremely simple to master. It's heavier than other single-to double pushchairs, however our home tester Karolina says it's still very capable of maneuvering even with two toddlers and carrying a carrycot.
The seat can be used parent-facing and you can buy add-ons for this stroller like the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) which are great for infants. Our test panel found the seats were comfortable for toddlers, with good headrests and lumbar support. And there are plenty of options for reclining, with the front seat adjusting to various positions and the rear seat having the option to recline.
This kind of buggy has the main disadvantage of being a bit wider than side-byside doubles. This makes it difficult to navigate through doorways and it isn't easy to maneuver between kerbs. The wheels and suspension of these strollers tend to be able to deal with paved surfaces. They're also lighter than many side-bysides which means you can have plenty of storage. It's important to keep in mind that these strollers aren't as efficient in walking through the narrow aisles of supermarkets, and may struggle to handle a large amount of shopping. Although it's much easier to turn the stroller on a small curved path, this can be a problem. Some are more easy to turn than others models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
The best thing about convertible double pushchairs is that they can adapt to changing family needs. They often start out as single buggies, but include adapters to add an additional seat, a carrycot or (in certain cases) the car seat to the frame. Some even convert to a single buggie when your older child begins to walk more or wants to ride on a buggy board.
One of the lightest double strollers we have on our list, this sleek tri-fold model is able to hold children up to 40lbs each. It comes with an easy-to-use basket between the seats for storage. The large canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining chairs and front and back suspensions for smoother rides on rough terrain were well-loved by home testers. It also comes with a handy cup holder for the parent and a large, easy-to-access basket. However, they noted that the seats' backs have small pockets that aren't big enough to accommodate anything more than a smartphone and keys.
This high-end, lightweight side-by-side is available in more than 20 different configurations. It also comes with a second chair and carrycot. It has a distinctive steering handlebar, front and rear suspensions to smooth out rough terrain, an ultra-compact fold that can be folded up with straps for easy transport and seven-inch front wheels with swivel locks as well as 10-inch back wheels that have suspensions for an easier ride. The only drawback is that you'll need to purchase a separate car seat or baby carrier.
This versatile tandem is the top choice of our home testers because it is easy to maneuver and has a large shopping basket that is accessible from both seats when they are in the parent-facing position. It is a breeze to maneuver due to its low weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs). Reversible seats mean they can be switched to face either direction, and the clever way that it connects a second seat or riding board to the rear is highly praised by many. Parents also appreciated the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seats from multiple brands, including some which aren't usually fit in other double buggies.
