How To Solve Issues With Double Buggy From Birth
Buying a Double Buggy From Birth

There are plenty of factors to consider when selecting the ideal double buggy right from the time of birth. We spoke to Fourth Trimester postnatal retreat expert Katie Billingsley for her advice on everything from seating options, age ranges to folding mechanisms and storage space.

A must-have purchase for families with active children This buggy will grow with your family from twins to toddlers. It's lightweight and has great maneuverability and is able to tackle uneven terrain easily.

What kind of buggy do you prefer?

A double buggy is ideal for transporting two children, not necessarily of the same age, side-by-side. They can also be used as prams. Each seat is equipped with an adjustable mechanism so that your children can sit or lie down in different positions. A lot of them have plenty of storage space for everything from drinks and snacks to wipes and nappies. They're usually lightweight, fold up easily and small enough to fit into the car boot. If you travel a significant deal, it's important to make sure that the buggy be easily pushed around with the folded wheels in your boot and taken out.

You might have seen this type of double buggy on other mums strollers or even in one as a kid. They are ideal for older siblings that want to keep up with you or for twins and typically have many seating options (including 'cinema' seats) for your toddlers to choose from. These are usually easy to navigate, and if you select a model that has a soft suspension, they are able to effortlessly handle the kerbs.

Tandem buggies, which are easier to turn than side-by-sides are also popular. This is because the second seat sits behind the first one, instead of sitting on top of it. The seats are typically wider and bulkier than a side by side, so you should check that they will fit through doors or on public transport. They can be used to transport twins, a toddler, an infant or three children, with the addition of an extra buggy board.

Lastly there are the'single-to-double' convertibles which can be used as a single pushchair from birth then convert to a double by attaching a second seat, carrycot or car seat to their clever frame. They tend to be more expensive than side-by-sides and tandem buggies but offer lots of flexibility and have a great resale value. They're generally easy to steer, come with an enormous storage basket and can handle uneven surfaces. Some come with a built-in ride-on boards for older children and 'cinema seats'.

Do you have twins?

Double buggys are the best way to transport your children, no matter if they are twins or older siblings. There are two types of double buggies: tandem buggies, which have one child sitting over the other, and side by side buggies. Both can be fitted with two fixed seats, but side-by-side buggies tend to be smaller in width to allow for access through doors. Tandems tend to be wider in general. They can also be able to accommodate an infant seat and a carrycot.

Do you have a child?

Being a parent to a child can feel like a big responsibility at first, especially when you have to tend to the baby. They may be feeling a little secluded if they are placed in a baby carrier as you push the older one to the side, so having a double buggy from birth can make everything simpler. It can also give your child the feeling of pride that comes with knowing that they become a "big brother or sister" and help them get used to their role.

Side-by-side double buggies are usually considered to be the best choice for twins as they allow both children to enjoy the same view, however they can be hefty and heavy. The Leclerc B-AGILE DUAL is a compact double buggy with an innovative frame which expands widthways and can accommodate two fixed seats. It also offers different configuration options, including the second seat to create a bassinet.

If you prefer, we suggest an alternative, the Mountain Buggy Double Trailblazer for active families who like to explore. This nifty buggy is a single pushchair that can be converted into double by adding a second seat or carrycot (depending on the model). Its smooth ride is ideal for rough terrain, and it features numerous thoughtful features that will keep everyone content.

Do you require a travel system for your business?

Double buggies are ideal to transport your children around in comfort, but they're not essential for every family. You might be able to get by with just a single stroller, and some attachments like baby straps and toddler carriers that permit you and your child to be able to travel on their backs, or in front.

If you choose to purchase a double buggy there are three types to pick from: side-by-side as well as convertible. Side-by-side buggies come with two seats positioned near each other, meaning that your children will be able to see each one another. However, they are generally larger than a single pushchair and are difficult to maneuver around kerbs. Tandem buggies offer an easier way to travel with a single seat in the front and one in the rear, however they can still be heavy and long to push.

Convertible double buggies are great because they allow you to convert your stroller to an additional buggy by attaching an infant bassinet or car seat to the frame. This will allow you to keep your baby safely in their car seat until they're ready to transition into the main buggy seat. The UPPababy V2 is a great example of this - it can be used with twins as well as a toddler and an infant, or even three children using the option of a PiggyBack Board.

When small double buggy are older and have more stamina, a double buggy can be used to accompany them on bike rides or other day trips where they might prefer walking. It is important to keep in mind that your kids may not always be comfortable in a stroller, and may be tired and irritable on longer outings.

Before you make the decision to buy a double buggy from birth, take some time to take a look at the above factors and your family's specific circumstances. A sturdy and reliable double stroller will simplify your life particularly if you have to travel through busy streets or bustling shopping centres.
