Rolls-Royce Cullinan Keys to a New Generation of Luxury SUVs
Rolls-Royce has long produced luxurious vehicles for the wealthy who want to drive into the sunset and explore the world in total comfort. Cullinan is the first SUV from the company, and the goal is to entice the wealthy from their Range Rovers and Bentaygas.
Its new architecture and technologies deliver iconic design, unparalleled space and usability, as also unparalleled off-road and on-road capability.
Effortless All Over
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is designed for those who view travel as an art form or a way of living. This means that it has to be just as effortless off-road as on a paved highway. The brand's latest SUV, billed as the "first all-terrain Rolls-Royce," makes that possibility possible. Its innovative features reflect a heritage that is built on perfection and excellence.
Cullinan is able to ignore bumps and imperfections. The soft suspension makes the road feel like a smooth carpet.
We drove the Cullinan on mud, gravel and on paved roads with potholes and other imperfections. The car's all-wheel drive and oversized tires allowed it to conquer difficult terrain with ease. It features a low-riding suspension system that allows it to climb over rocks and obstacles without damaging its underside.
The Cullinan is equipped with a wide range of cutting-edge technologies that make the driver's journeys more comfortable. The SUV comes with forward-collision warnings with automatic emergency braking, night vision and vision assist as well as a surround-view camera that is helpful when driving or parking in tight spaces due to the Cullinan's size as well as adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warnings. It also comes with a WiFi hotspot, navigation and a world-class head-up display.
The Cullinan has a sturdy construction that is expected by people with wealth. Every switch, knob, and touchpoint feels like it's been designed to last for a thousand years, at which point it could just need a little sweat to keep it working. Its cabin is decked out with chrome, wood and leather with the Spirit of Ecstasy looking down on the driver and passengers from its perch above the dashboard.
The Cullinan is a car which is loaded with modern technology, but it's missing a few features that younger drivers may desire. It isn't equipped with driver aids such as semi-autonomous highways and lane-keeping or the connected devices that are becoming more popular in cars.
Clasp
A single push - dubbed 'Everywhere' by engineers from Rolls-Royce - is all it takes to unleash Cullinan's peerless off-road capabilities. This allows the driver to fine tune the SUV's self-leveling suspension to take on every bump and rut along the way, while the drive and prop shafts ensure all 850Nm of torque is delivered to the rear and front wheels at precisely the right moment.
Cullinan is the first model from Rolls-Royce with an open tailgate, with the rear doors opening in a similar style to those of pickup trucks. It's a design detail that gives it a more three-box design and enhances the SUV's imposing presence. It also allows access to an expansive cargo area that is 21 cubic feet with the rear seat raised. The floor is lower than the base the seatbacks, which helps prevent items from sliding.
The main cabin of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is more practical than any Rolls-Royce production vehicle before. For instance, the rear passengers sit higher than those in front, meaning that they can enjoy a better view of the world outside of their vehicle. The layout can be arranged to meet various requirements and requirements, with the standard rear bench providing an 80/20/40 split, as well as folding seatbacks for increased flexibility.
The rear-view mirrors were modified to complement the more utilitarian design. The Rolls-Royce badge was mounted on a smaller plinth, separate from the housing for the numberplate, with a thin stripe jewellery as decoration. The rear lights have an identical utilitarian design with two tall upright units that house the lights and a single stripe of jewelry in their central.
Cullinan, beyond the obvious benefits of an easier layout, is the most family-friendly Rolls-Royce ever. Its rear bench can be arranged to accommodate three people, while the standard panoramic roof means that there's plenty of room to stretch out. The Immersive Seating configuration allows drivers to enjoy their surroundings in comfort, wrapped in the finest leather. A Champagne decanter and a whisky cooler can be placed in the central console to add the sense of luxury.
The Rear Passenger compartment
The Cullinan is a Rolls-Royce unlike any other before, is like and different. It's big and ostentatious and opens the brand up to an entirely new set of potential customers who'll drive it into places where other luxury SUVs might be reluctant to go. Jackson Hole in Wyoming, where the SUV is manufactured is one of them.
From the side, the vertical lines that flow from the front doors, down to the raised bonnet edge and into the skid plate of metal convey a confident sense of intent for an SUV ready to take on the world. Additionally, the massive wheels and the slim roofline give it an impressively tall stance that conveys a remarkably robust personality.
Rolls-Royce engineers designed a unique design that blends an elegant interior with unbeatable off-road capabilities and uncompromising luxury. In doing so, they have crafted a vehicle that is both practical and iconic.
The passengers seated in the rear are able to enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding area through the large glass area of the world-class panoramic glass roof. If they'd like to know where they are around the globe the rear touchscreen map lets them concentrate on it.
A key feature is that both back seat backs in the rear can fold down, giving a generous cargo space. With just a touch of an button they can be easily reduced without damaging the cushion. They can be split into a 1/3 or 2/3 configuration to increase the practicality of the car.
rolls royce cullinan keys of the Rolls-Royce coach doors allow passengers to exit and enter comfortably, with their legs being shielded from dirt. This allows the occupants of the Rolls-Royce to get in and exit comfortably and with their legs shielded from dirt, because of a design that wraps both the front and rear coach doors lower than the sill.
Once inside, guests can toast their accomplishments with a whisky from the bottle holder which is tucked behind the front seats. When they're at ease you can sink into the heated and padded rear seats, and use the optional neck, shoulder, and leg rests.
The Glass Partition
With a starting price of $325,000 The Cullinan is unlike any vehicle that has come out of Rolls-Royce's Goodwood factory in its 114-year history. It's not just that it has an all-wheel-drive system, a button labeled "Off Road," and an adjustable ride height. (Rolls-Royce is an established company with a long tradition of vehicles that travel overland that date back to T.E. Lawrence's 1914 armoured car). It's because this SUV was designed to be a family vehicle that's meant to be driven by owners, rather than to an chauffeur.
It's also the first SUV with a rear passenger compartment that is large enough to hold three passengers comfortably, while still leaving room for luggage. It also has a variety of seating options including massage chairs for the rear and the center console is equipped with a whisky decanter, glasses or champagne coolers and two Rolls-Royce champagne flutes.
However, it's the Spirit of Ecstasy that really places this Rolls-Royce in a different league to the Range Rovers and Bentaygas that have been competing for ultra-rich buyers' attention in recent months. The hood ornament is a constant reminder that the Cullinan isn't your typical SUV.
I'm also impressed with the restraint Rolls-Royce has displayed in its cabin. While some manufacturers are inundating their cabins with layers of technology, Cullinan's center stack has a simple and clean display that is similar to traditional gauges.
Box-grain leather is among the most significant changes made to previous Rolls-Royce models. This type of leather is created by pressing a metal frame into the hide, followed by lacquering. The result is a dark black finish that is more durable than smooth leather used in other high-end vehicles.
The Cullinan is an SUV that is able to combine all the characteristics that make them so popular. It does have some drawbacks. It's absurd to pay this much money on an SUV even though it's as well-equipped as this one. If you're looking to purchase a Cullinan it's likely that you'll need to sell some pieces of art or skip your summer vacation in Nice.
