European Colonial Expansions: All sorts of reasons why there were the voyages of discovery in the first place, their consequences, and in particular, how different people, for instance, traders and merchants, seafarers and mariners, and missionaries, came to explain the motives of Europeans exploring different parts of the world, such as the notion of ‘the white man’s burden’ and the phenomenon of the slave trade.
The American Revolution: Reasons for the Revolution, such as how the British treated the American colonists, and key aspects of the development of the Revolution and the key features of the American Constitution

be able to show use of evidence (e.g. by stating ‘according to Source A, “... .” )
be able to build causal relationships between historical incidents (e.g. I believe Y was a result of X because ... )
be able to make inferences based on logical thinking (an inference means some conclusion you come to due to some information you have seen or read; for example, on seeing a big foot print in the sand, my inference is that there has been a big animal around the area. The "big animal" is my inference.)
be able to arrange historical incidents in the time sequence they happened
be able to compare (to draw out similarities) and contrast (to draw out differences) various data according to the subject matter
be able to define historical concepts (i.e. breaking a concept down into small component parts)
