How to Replace a Kia Sportage Replacement Key

The key in many Kia models has the keyless entry feature built in. The key functions like a remote control, and can be exchanged by a Kia dealer.

Key fobs can stop working due to a number of reasons, including a dead battery, worn-out buttons, signal interference or water damage. Here are some suggestions on how you can get your Kia Sportage replacement key back to working.

How to replace the remote key or the smart key?

No matter if your Kia is equipped with an intelligent key, remote key, push to start key or a regular non-transponder metal key the battery in these keys will eventually need replacement. This is especially relevant if your car displays a message indicating that the smart or remote key is not powered by the battery.

Luckily, this is quite simple to do. To replace the battery in the keyfob, remove your mechanical key from the slot at the back of the fob. Then, pry the cover off.
