How to Replace a Dead BMW Key Fob
Almost every BMW owner will have to replace their key fob's battery at some point. Luckily, this is easy to do and won't cost you a lot. The key fob is powered by a standard CR2032 and can be easily replaced at the local BMW dealer or online, or at an hardware store.
Replacement Battery
A lost key fob is not just a problem to deal with. It could also be a risk. You don't want into your car, hit the unlock button, only to you find that nothing happens. This is usually a sign that the battery inside your BMW key fob has gone out of service. Luckily, this is easy to fix at home by using the replacement battery. First, you need to identify the type of battery that is needed for your BMW key fob, which is an elegant slant-sleek shape with a Comfort Access keys or a Smart Key CR2450. These batteries are available in hardware and auto parts shops for less than $5 each.
Once you have the right type of battery, it's a simple matter of swapping out the old battery with the new one. Once you have inserted a new battery, be sure to shut both halves of the key fob securely.
Before you begin taking the key blade from the BMW key fob, and then use a valet key or small flat screwdriver to lift it open and reveal the tiny access port at the back of the fob. After that, you can remove it off the back and replace the batteries that are dead. When you remove the key fob, make sure you are careful not to scratch the plastic. Wrapping a small amount of tape over the top of your tool will protect against scratches.
After replacing the battery you must reassemble and test your BMW key fob. You have successfully reprogrammed your BMW key fob, if your door locks and your car starts. If you're unable to do that then consult the owner's manual of your vehicle or go to a BMW dealer for help.
Key Blade
There are many locations to purchase replacement BMW keys in case you've lost your key fob or simply want to replace your battery. Some online retailers offer free shipping and discounted rates, which makes them a good alternative for those who are budget-conscious. It's important to remember that these prices do not include the cost of programming the new key into your vehicle.
Certain BMW models come with a "proximity key," which allows you to unlock or start the car at the push of one button. Others have a metal key that is hidden within the remote, which needs to be inserted into the ignition to turn on the engine. The process of replacing keys is nearly identical for both kinds of BMW keys.
If your BMW's key fob battery dies, you won't be able to unlock your vehicle or use Comfort Access, if equipped. It's easy to replace the battery using a few simple instructions. First, make sure that your vehicle's doors and windows are closed. Find the lock and unlock button on your working BMW Key Fob. Press and hold the lock button until the electronics inside the key fob switch on but the engine remains off. Put the new battery into the key fob and sync the key within 30 seconds of sync with the original key.
Smart Keys are available in many cars today as well as BMWs. They can be used to unlock and start a vehicle without the traditional key. These keys have transponders that transmit an individual code to the immobilizer system of the car. This stops unauthorized key cloning or starting. These keys are more expensive than standard key fobs, because they require additional technology and programming.
Some BMW models also have an extra feature, called Summon, which allows you to press a button on your key fob and get your car to take you to an area of parking or garage. This feature is not offered on all models, however it's a fantastic feature that can help you avoid having a taxi come to pick up your car, or fighting off an obnoxious person to get it back.
Start/Stop Button
The new BMW key comes with a push button built in that will turn on your car for you. This feature could save you time as it eliminates the need to remove your keychain from the car. However, there is a some extra work when using the starter/stop button on an alternative BMW key fob. The first step is to verify that the key fob has been properly paired with your vehicle. Follow the instructions in this guide to ensure that it is.
Once you have the right key fob in your possession It is now time to program it to your BMW. The procedure will differ slightly depending on the type of key you own. Certain modern models have a display key fob that can be programmed following the instructions in this guide. Older BMW models might need to be brought to our dealer to be programmed with the key fob.
Verify that the blade on the new key fob is working. Check it by inserting the key fob into the keyhole and pressing the lock/unlock buttons. If it works, the BMW iDrive system will ask you to put a name to the key. You can then press the start/stop button to start your vehicle.
Next, you will need to make an appointment with Patrick BMW to have the new key fob programmed. To verify bmw key replacement , we need to see a valid driver’s license and an original registration document for your car. This information will help us identify the correct code for the key fob. You'll either have a key fob standard that doesn't require programming, or a key fob smart equipped with a transponder that requires more advanced technology.
Once the key fob is programmed, you can begin to use it to commute every day on the roads of Decatur. If you lose your key fob, you can also contact our dealer for a service which will disable the key fob in the system, and stop it from being used to unlock or start your vehicle. If you're worried that your keys could fall into the wrong hand this is a great solution to prevent theft.
Programming
If the replacement BMW key fob has an upgraded battery, but isn't working properly, you may need to re-program it. Our service team in San Diego will guide you through the process. Begin by inserting the working key into the ignition. Turn it fast, five times, from zero to one. Then take the key out of the ignition and press the unlock button (the BMW Logo) on the new keys. Within 30 seconds you can press the BMW logo three times. Then press the unlock button, and you will hear the doors lock automatically and unlock.
The procedure for programming a replacement BMW key fob is the same for other BMW models, and should be completed in less than 30 seconds. Once you've finished, you can turn on your engine and use the new key to start your car.
It's important to replace your BMW key battery frequently. You should do it every year, or every other month depending on your lifestyle. Change the battery of your key is simple and affordable. The BMW key battery is standard in size that you can locate it in a majority of hardware stores, or in the parts department of your local dealership.
