Slot Rankings - How Wide Receivers Score More Touchdowns in the Slot
Slot machines operate in the same way for each spin, which means you won't discover any secrets to beat them. However, there are a few things to keep in mind to maximize your winning potential.
Check out the RTP of a particular game first. This statistic shows how many players are likely to win over the long run.
Slot Efficiency
The goal of slot efficiency is of increasing the amount of slot switches that can be used while avoiding the violation of certain constraints. These constraints typically include the minimum permitted operational delay (usually expressed in terms of scheduling delays) fairness and equity access and competition, environmental goals and many more. The slot allocation process can be a complex process, and optimizing it in order to meet the desired performance metrics requires careful examination of the factors involved.
The process begins by identifying the kinds of requests to prioritize by reference to historical precedents. Once the type of request has been determined, a slot allocation model is employed to minimize the required delay the criterion. However, numerous research gaps have been observed related to the optimization of slot scheduling models, particularly when it comes to the balance between fairness and efficiency is being maintained.
A common method of prioritizing slot assignments is the ABC (assigned by velocity) strategy, which collects information on the history of an item and creates a velocity group. Items that have the highest velocity get the most slots, while lower velocity items are placed farther back in the warehouse.
The distance factor is another key element in slot efficiency. It determines the amount of space needed to facilitate the pick-to-ship process. The factor considers the velocity group, racking placements and the handling characteristics of the items.
It is important to also consider the cost associated with a slot change in order to increase the efficiency of the slot. A quick review of the typical slot change will help managers determine the cost associated with the change, as well as the effects it may have on other elements of slot efficiency, including speed.
After spending a month or two validating the data and back-dating recommendations after which the casino began using the system more frequently. The gaming operations team estimates that they can save between 10-12 hours per month on their usual analysis. This doesn't include the time spent reviewing the data of customers or creating a new actionable strategy.
Using the new suggestions from SRE, the team was able to make numerous suggestions for game changes which increased revenue for players. Dancing Drums Explosion, and Twinstar Wave XL from Scientific Games saw significant gains in the premium lease rankings and WAP rankings. The casino also managed to shift their budget away from marketing and other costs to enhancing the floor's performance.
Perimeter Efficiency
We all know that wide receivers tend to score more touchdowns on areas that are not targeted by slot targets, since they're usually targeted way downfield and often face one-on-one coverage. However, what may surprise people is the different between the top five slot receivers and the rest when it comes to scoring on perimeter targets.
Mike Evans, Amari cooper, Tyler Lockett, and Michael Gallup were the top five scorers on perimeter routes among the 66 wide receivers who received at least 40 targets during each of the previous two seasons. The bottom of the list was filled with more possession-based receivers, including Chris Godwin and Diontae Johnson. The Bucs will likely shift the latter two players into the slot more often this season, which will increase their targets. However, they'll need to improve their scoring from the perimeter to maintain their top-of-the-line performance.
The slot is a great option for wideouts that are quick, as they can get open more quickly when their route will not be covered by a linebacker or cornerback. The only non-speedy wide receiver on the list who benefits from more slot time is Corey Coleman, as he's an extremely reliable receiver on intermediate and short routes.
The last spot on the list features more possession-based receivers that are more effective on intermediate and short routes than in deep areas like Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Jeudy is a great sleeper pick this year since he'll be the primary slot receiver for the Rams while Courtland Sutton and Amari Cooper are likely to be involved in more downfield targets. Rain Bet is likely to excel on short-to-mid routes, given that's exactly what he did well in 2021 when he played for the Bills. Hamler could be a great replacement for the departing wideout Jordan Matthews.
Percentage of Snaps In Slot
The proportion of snaps receivers take in the slot can be a good indicator of their ability to run deep routes. It is not always an accurate reflection of a receiver's skills since certain receivers are better in the slot, but they can't play deeper.
Alshon Jeffrey, for instance is the league leader in targets received per game (4.8), but is only ranked 6th when it comes to the slot that receives scores (58.5). This is due to the fact that the majority of his targets are from outside, and it's a challenge to get a first down in a wide-open, deep and wide-open route.
Certain receivers are better playing inside, while others struggle to do so on the outside. For instance the Panthers gave Robby Anderson 978 snaps this season, and he completed a whopping 74 percent of his slot routes compared to only 26% on boundary routes. This is a significant distinction and demonstrates how much more productive Anderson is when he's aligned with the slot.
Furthermore there is the Buccaneers' Chris Godwin lines up inside on most of his passing downs and has a top-five slot receiving score (58.5). He also played 51% his perimeter routes and is an expert in one-on-1 coverage.
Speed receivers are more effective when lined up inside, as they can get targeted way down the field, and often are in one-on-one coverage. This is why you'll find names like Julio Jones, Mike Evans and Amari Cooper in the top five of our list.
McDuffie, Moore and other slot cornerbacks are also in this group. McDuffie is the leader in the NFL in forced fumbles, with seven, and Moore has the highest tackle-stop efficiency (-3.5) on this list. Spagnuolo maximized McDuffie's skills by putting his slot for nickel and dime packages and then shifting him to the outside when playing base defense. In addition, Moore's ability to stop big run plays has been a tremendous benefit when playing in the slot.
Percentage of Snaps Outside
While the NFL's top receivers like Baldwin, Golden Tate and Larry Fitzgerald excel on the perimeter, it's worth noting that their slot counterparts are also good. As a group wide receivers who have a high slot receiving grade score touchdowns roughly at the same amount as those who play on the edge. This is due to the fact that quarterbacks are more consistent with their target distribution when they throw to slot and outside wide receivers than other inside options like backfield passers and tight ends.
It's interesting to see a player like CeeDee lamb on this list for 2022. He plays the slot in 3 WR sets and flanker in two of the sets. In actuality the slot receiver is running a higher number of slot routes than most players listed on this list. This is a great way to gain matchup advantages for your team. It also helps to explain why Lamb is the highest-graded receiver in our system.
He also plays the X-position and makes big plays on the outside. Lamb isn't as awe-inspiring as the players in this list but he's a very high-graded receiver and is a great fit for the Cowboys scheme.
Mecole Hardman, a player who can put huge numbers on both types of targets, is a different example. He has a very high slot receiving grade and is one of the league's top players at catching back-shoulder throws, but he's also a great contested-catch threat.
Another player on this list that's an authentic slot specialist is Baltimore's Jalen Hilton who has been positioned in the slot on 85.7 percent of his defensive plays this season. He has the third-lowest EPA for targets, and the fifth-best EPA for run stops among cornerbacks in the slot. This makes him a valuable part of his team's defensive team. On the other hand, he's struggled to prevent passes from the outside and has allowed an unfavorable EPA against these types of targets. This is a result of playing with poor linebackers and safeties who can't match up with Hilton's size and speed. He also has a great ability to run routes.
