Operation Barbarossa paved the way for the Final Solution by significantly expanding the territory under Nazi control, providing access to a larger Jewish population. The operation led to the establishment of mobile killing units (Einsatzgruppen) that carried out mass shootings of Jews, setting a precedent for the large-scale extermination that would later occur in the death camps.
