Twilight Princess: What No One Is Talking About
Twilight Princess Game Review

Twilight Princess is the darkest, most serious and serious Nintendo 3D Zelda game. It pushes the graphical display on the Wii to the limits of. It's more frightening and mysterious than The Wind Waker, with the absence of bug-eyed pig guards or effeminate pirates.

Link is dragged into a parallel dimension known as Twilight Realm, where he takes the form of an Hylian and a wolf, while being guided by Midna.

Gameplay

Twilight Princess is the thirteenth installment in The Legend of Zelda series. It was released in 2006 for the Nintendo GameCube system and Wii. The game was praised by critics, giving it perfect scores in various publications including 1UP CVG EGM and GamesRadar. It is regarded by many as the best games in the series, and it was the top-selling Zelda game on the PAL market.

Twilight Princess has naturalistic, stylized style of graphics that is similar to Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, but with a more sophisticated graphical engine. It is the first in the series to feature an entirely directional control system instead of a fixed viewpoint like the previous games. This change was made to accommodate the Wii console's touchscreen that is based on pointing. The GameCube version of the game features a section at the back with mirror-image maps for those who prefer a fixed view.

Upon entering the Twilight Realm, Link is transformed into a wolf and meets Midna, a mysterious creature. She reveals that the kingdom of Hyrule has been taken over by a group of shadow creatures led by the evil sorcerer Zant. She also explains that she is the real ruler of Twili but was taken over and cursed to her present form by Zant.

When Link and Midna arrive at Hyrule Castle, a short cut scene shows the soldiers there being killed by the shadow creatures. Link and Midna then escape the castle via a tunnel to enter the Twilight Realm.

In the Twilight Realm, Link can utilize his wolf-like form to move around more freely around the world. Link can also use his senses to navigate around the world. He can sense the ghosts of soldiers and animals in the distance. He can also whistle and pull grass from certain patches to summon an animal such as an Hawk, Epona or other. Or, Link can howl near these patches to summon the same animal.

Twilight Princess is no different from earlier Zelda titles in that music plays a major role. Link can play instruments like the harp or flute to draw and summon animals. He can also use his voice to command the wolf form. Additionally, he can use his compass to guide him through the world and avoid getting lost.

Characters

The Legend of Zelda series is filled with colorful characters that leave a lasting impression on players. From hands emerging from toilets to pirate sailors sailing across vast oceans, these wacky and unique characters are the core of the game. Twilight Princess continues the tradition of previous games by introducing a range of memorable characters.

Link is introduced to new NPCs throughout the story who are not just interesting, but also credible. It's an important leap forward that a lot of these NPCs don't exist solely as victims they actually are a part of the story. NPCs like Rusl who explains that the forest is dangerous and kidnaps children as well as the Ordon villager who disguises himself as a wolf when the kidnappers are taking children each has their own unique personality.

Other notable characters are Iza who runs the Boat Rental Cabin in Lanayru Province and Iza's rapid ride, Louise Telma’s cat, who assists Wolf Link find a secret access point to the castle through her bar, sewer system, and Faron his spirit helps guide Link to the Forest Temple in Eldin Province. The two team members defeat the Fused Shadow possessed by Diababa and obtains the first Tear of Light.

Midna is the princess of the Twilight Realm and one of the most captivating characters in the game. She is able to switch between her wolf and human forms and possesses a piece of the Triforce of Wisdom. She shares with Link about her experience in the twilight, and how she defeated Zant the King of Twilight.

Zant who is the other half of the Triforce of Wisdom, is a wicked sorcerer and ruler of the Twilight Realm. He was exiled to the Twilight Realm by the goddesses for stealing their land and depriving the people. starlight princess keeps him permantently in wolf form, however Midna removes the power and allows him to change into his human form whenever needed.

Epona is an improved horse that can be ridden in both the wolf and Hylian forms. Link can whistle near certain patches of grass to summon the animal (similar to Majora's Mask). The player is able to identify the horse which makes Twilight Princess the first time in the series that a player can personalize their own horse.

Theme

Music is one of the most important elements of any Zelda game and can make a world feel huge thrilling, epic, and captivating. However, Twilight Princess is criticized for having an inconsistent and unreliable soundtrack that doesn't convey the emotional impact of certain moments. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and other games have stunning compositions that explode at the right moment to create a feeling of majestic and eerie.

Twilight Princess was composed by Asuka Ohta and Toru Minegishi. Koji Kondo, the composer of the series' first since Wind Waker, was responsible for overseeing the composers. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a radical departure from the typical approach to the show, with a an approach that is minimalist to music and arrangements. The majority of dungeon and field music begins with a single instrument creating a mystical and atmospheric atmosphere for the player. For instance, the haunting music in Midna's Lament utilizes the piano to create an overwhelming sense of sorrow for the player.

Dungeon themes are among the most prominent examples of this trend towards minimalism, with many dungeons featuring a dreary and ominous ambience. This approach is most evident in the Twilight Realm theme, which features a soundscape that could be at home on a David Lynch film. The ominous and unsettling nature of the track is enhanced by the absence of recognizable melody and traditional arrangement, with dreary drones and bizarre patterns interspersed to create a dark and bleak sound.

Link's song from his hometown, "Faron Woods," is a more energetic and joyful song. This tune uses various soft tones and stringed instruments to create an idyllic sense of safety and peace for the player. The song is a subtle nod to the most well-known scene in the franchise because it has a melody that is reminiscent of the famous melody that plays at Ocarina of Time's start.

Twilight Princess also has dynamic songs that change depending on the player's location, the activity they're doing, and what is happening. For example, the Hyrule Castle Town theme has various versions for each part of the town and Central Square being the most popular. Central Square having a more boisterous and full version of the song. These variations are a great feature that adds a sense of immersion and depth to the world of Hyrule.

Story

The story of Twilight Princess revolves around Link trying to prevent Hyrule from being engulfed by the corrupted parallel dimension referred to as the Twilight Realm. To achieve this, Link takes on the form of a Hylian or a Wolf and is aided by a woman called Midna.

Midna was the original ruler of Twili but she was overthrown and cursed by Zant into her imp form. Link and Midna are told by the Ancient Sages that only defeating Ganondorf will be able to free them from their curse. The Sages reveal that the Mirror of Twilight causes the darkness to be present in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link travel to the Spirit's Spring, where they encounter hostile monsters that kidnap children. Utilizing Wolf Link's keen sense of smell, they track the kids' scent to a bridge before they enter the Twilight Realm.

They enter the Forest Temple and battle Diababa to obtain the first Fused Shadow. Faron then informs them of the next destination, which is the Eldin Province in the west (Wii), or east (GCN).

At the Lakebed Temple in Lanayru, Midna is able to teleport Link to a fiery rock and uses her power to melt the ice in the bottom of Lake Hylia. Rutela's spirit, the recently deceased Zora queen, appears to Link and informs Link that he must visit the Lakebed Temple if he wants to access the treasure of Zora.

Returning from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask The horse Epona is able to be riding in Twilight Princess. In contrast to the set name used in the two previously mentioned games, Link can now decide the name of the horse himself.

Midna and Link can retrieve the remaining Mirror Shards once they arrive in the Twilight Realm. In the Palace of Twilight, the Sages declare that Midna is actually the real ruler of the Twili, but she had been ostracized by the monarchy, and then turned into an idol to gain power. The Sages also tell them that the only way to defeat Ganondorf is to bring him to the light and break the pact between Twilight and Hyrule kingdoms.
