Between Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering
Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering are two of the well known major engineering disciplines at the tertiary institution of learning in recent time. Although both are engineering related jobs or course, some students still find it difficult to choose which to study for a degree certificate. The differences between the two are much greater than their similarities.

What is Chemical Engineering?

Chemical engineering covers a broad field of studies including but not limited to biomedicine, food and beverages, electronics, and the environment. A graduate with chemical engineering degree could work in many industries as stated above plus the pharmaceutical industry, even in the oil and gas industry.

Petroleum engineering is more direct or more focus compared with the study of Chemical engineering and.it a discipline which deals primarily with the extraction of oil and gas. A Chemical Engineer can work in various industries that convert material to useable substances. They are able to solve problems of converting raw material to finished useable products by applying chemistry, biology, physics and math on the production or use of chemicals and other materials.

They are also trained to troubleshoot problems with the manufacturing line and to develop new method of production or design equipment for large-scale manufacturing. They are also responsible to plan and test production method to ensure a safe procedure for those working with hazardous chemicals before the operation begins.

They also responsible to ensuring that effective safety measures are in places before, during and after production for those that work with dangerous materials and equipment

Chemical engineers are also responsible to make sure that their waste products are well manage to not pollute the environment.

Some of the career path you can choose after after earning your degree in chemical engineering are Chemical Engineer, Health and Safety Engineer, Environmental Engineer, Chemists and Materials Scientists, Nuclear Engineer, Process Engineer, Cost Engineer and more.


What is Petroleum Engineers Works and Duties

Petroleum Engineers search for oil and gas deposit and deploy means to extract them.

They are also responsible to find more efficient and profitable ways to extract oil and gas from older wells.

They are also responsible to develop new method or design new equipment to test wells, drill and extract oil and gas fields.

Develop ways to inject gases, water, steam or chemical into an oil reserve to force out more oil or gas

They often work with geoscientists and other earth science specialists to understand how geologic formation affects rocks that contain oil reserves.

Acquiring between chemical and petroleum engineering in Petroleum engineering could lead a graduate to take up a job as Petroleum Geologist, Completion engineers, Drilling engineers, Production Engineers, Reservoir engineers.


Entry Requirements

The minimum requirement to gain admission to 100 level of the chemical engineering vary from a country to another but all have these basic requirements as stated below.

The entry requirements to study for a degree in Chemical or Petroleum engineering in the university include students to show evidence of completing an high or secondary school education.

The requirements also include Students to be very good in Mathematics and science, having good grades at secondary school final year examination.
