Bio-Fires - An Eco-Friendly Alternative to Real Fires
Biofires are a warm and cozy form of heat that has no harmful gasses or soot. They are simple to set up as an electric fire.
The BARDA-funded contract supports development of the BioFire Emerging CoV Panel, a nucleic acids amplifying test that can be used with BioFire FilmArray Systems for detecting known and emerging human coronaviruses in nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs and saliva specimens.
Eco-friendly
Bioethanol is a green alternative to wood or gas. The fuel is created using plant by-products, and the natural process converts sugars into alcohol. It is a better option than other fireplaces because it does not emit harmful emissions and also has less carbon footprint. Bioethanol is a better alternative to other types of fires since it doesn't produce smoke or soot. It also requires no flue, which means it can be placed anywhere in your home or garden.
Multi-drug resistant bacteria (MDR) are among the most dangerous health threats of today. Fortunately, new testing techniques can help detect MDR bacteria and other infections early enough to prevent further complications. One test that can help is the BioFire FilmArray multiplex PCR system. This test uses the symptom driven approach to identify pathogens that could cause sepsis. ethanol fireplaces are accessible within an hour so that providers can start treatment immediately.
Molecular PCR is a process that amplifies DNA or RNA molecules into millions to billions of copies. This makes it possible to analyze small samples of tissue or body fluid to determine the presence of specific genetic sequences. It is a valuable instrument for laboratory professionals and can help them identify serious illnesses in a cost-effective and efficient manner. The BioFire FilmArray PCR system is a cutting-edge instrument for diagnosing infectious diseases, and it can be utilized in a myriad of applications in hospitals and labs.
For tests for respiratory problems, you can apply a swab of alcohol to your nose prior to sending it to the lab. BioFire's system lets clinicians respond quickly and has a quick turnaround time. This means that patients will enjoy better outcomes and will not have to wait for results.
The Chanouf Farm-Biofire company developed an agroforestry waste recycling unit, which utilizes pear and olive tree waste to make biochar and biomass energy. The products are offered to the public to replace traditional coal briquettes and wood charcoal with eco-friendly alternatives. These bio-waste products are suitable to be burned in a Kachelofen fireplace which generates radiant heat and is a greener alternative to gas or electric fires.
Clean burning
When you utilize a bio fire you aren't just reducing energy consumption, you're also helping the environment by using a renewable fuel source. This is because the burning of bioethanol does not produce harmful gases like carbon dioxide. Instead, it releases only water vapour and heat. This makes it a cleaner and safer alternative for indoor use.
Ethanol is made from the fermentation of sugars from plants and is classed as an alternative source of energy that can be used to generate renewable fuel. This means that it can be produced in a short time and will not run out as fossil fuels such as coal and oil. Bioethanol reduces dependence on imports from foreign countries, and the risk of shortages.
Bio-fires are very easy to install and can be installed in existing fireplace openings or as a freestanding unit. This makes them a great alternative to wood and gas fires. They are an excellent choice for offices and homes that do not have a chimney.
When a bio fire is lit, a special media is created inside the burner to absorb the liquid fuel ethanol while making it available to be used for combustion. The ethanol is burned by the flames, and the vapours are emitted out into the atmosphere through the vent. This gives the flames a more natural appearance and a mesmerising beauty which can't be matched by gas or wood fires.
Another big advantage of bio-fires is that they don't require a flue or vent to replenish the oxygen used during combustion. They don't release carbon monoxide that is released into the room by open fronted gas fireplaces.
The BioFire Respiratory panel makes use of multiplex PCR to simultaneously test for respiratory pathogens. It takes approximately an hour. This allows doctors to detect and rule out respiratory illness quicker than traditional tests that require patient visits. This saves time and money for both the patient and the health healthcare system.
Safe indoors
Bio-fires can be used indoors more safely than traditional fires, since they don't emit smoke or ash, as well as carcinogenic fumes. They also don't release carbon monoxide that can be fatal if inhaled. The bio-ethanol fuel they use is flammable however it is important to be careful when managing the burner and refilling your fire. The fuel should only be added after the burner has been turned off and the fire has cooled. Any spills need to be cleaned up immediately.
The diagnostic panels of the company FilmArray systems - BioFire 2.0 and BioFire Torch--are easy to use and run eight different commercially available US Food and Drug Administration approved diagnostic panels, three additional panels that have been authorized for use in emergency situations, and six environmental test panels. The tests include a respiratory panel developed to quickly detect and differentiate respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19. emerging coronaviruses and COVID-19.
Its COVID-19 panel has been granted a grant from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Initiative (BARDI) which is part of the US Department of Defense's Strategic Access Program. The COVID-19 test is an antigen-based method that allows doctors to differentiate the symptoms caused by COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses with the same precision as the current rapid antigen tests in use.
The company is also in the process of developing a SARS-CoV-2 test for its Respiratory Panel 2.1. The multiplexed nucleic acid amplifying test will be available on the BioFire FilmArray 2.0 and Torch Systems, and will detect SARS-CoV-2 and 21 other respiratory pathogens within nasopharyngeal or saliva samples in less than an hour. The test will be developed within an extremely short time frame and FDA approval for EUA and 510(k) is expected to be granted in Q3 2020.
Although bio-ethanol flame-effect fires are extremely safe to use, they should be kept away from any flammable material such as curtains, blankets and pillows. You should never place them near anything that can catch fire. Keep flammable materials away from the fires that cause flames by at minimum 10 feet. The bioethanol fuel must be stored in a secure, dry area where it cannot be easily reached by children or pets.
Simple to use
The bioethanol fireplace does not have a chimney to worry about. You only need a place to store it as well as fuel. Once you've filled the burner with fuel, light it up. This will create an appearance of a real flame. Once the flame has started it will heat the room but with minimal or no smoke. It will also generate lots of heat, just like wood-burning fireplaces do. They are also simple to maintain and don't require any servicing. A quick clean is all they require.
In contrast to other tests that are quick however, the BioFire RP2.1-EZ test employs a syndromic method to identify the most common signs of infection and returns results in about 45 minutes. The test is for patients with symptoms of upper respiratory tract and has a specificity rate of 98%. The test can identify 19 viruses and three bacteria in one sample which makes it a great option for the treatment of patients.
The BioFire platform combines multiplex testing, sample preparation, and results reporting into one platform. This allows laboratories to streamline their workflow and eliminate the need for a serial approach involving individual and send-out tests. This could lead to better outcomes for patients, since the appropriate test is chosen the first time and the need for expensive tests that are based on culture is eliminated. The BioFire system is able to identify pathogens at a cell level as well as their antimicrobial resistance gene. This information is more sensitive than the conventional methods.
Molecular diagnostics are increasingly utilized to improve patient care and outcomes. The BioFire panel RP2.1+ uses a syndromic method to simultaneously target 23 pathogens that are commonly implicated in respiratory infections. The assay is available on the BioFire film array 2.0 and Torch systems and delivers results in 45 minutes.
In the US, this assay is currently available under FDA Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) and will be made available commercially after the initial DoD demand is met. The BioFire Defense team has developed a fully automated sample-to result assay for rapid identification of COVID-19. The assay is currently being developed and will be available when initial DoD demands are met.
