2.7.1. Carrageenin-induced rat paw edema
Rats (n= 6) of control group were treated orally with vehicle of CMC and those of the test groups with MHN once a day for 5 consecutive days. Phenylbutazone (oral) was administered as a positive control. On the 5th day, 1 h after drug treatment, 1% carrageenin was injected into the plantar tissue of the right hind paw . The contra-lateral hind paws were injected with 0.1 ml of saline as control. Paw volume was measured plethysmographically at 0 and 3 h after injection. Percentage inhibition of oedema was calculated as follows:

2.7.2. Cotton pellet method
Male Wistar rats were anesthetized using pentobarbitone sodium. cotton pellets were implanted subcutaneously in the interscapular area. Animals (n= 5) were treated orally with vehicle , MHN and indomethacin (oral) as standard, once a day for 5 consecutive days. On the 5th day, after 1 h of drug treatment ,animals were killed via cervical dislocation and the cotton pellets with the granuloma tissue around them were removed

Further, anti-inflammatory activity of active ingredients
(Cleomiscosin A and Cleomiscosin B) was measured by cotton
pellet granuloma method in mice as described previously

2.8. Evaluation of antipyretic activity
Rats were divided into five groups consisting of five animals each. The normal body temperature of each rat was measured rectally at intervals and recorded. The test was performed in rats by injecting 15% aqueous solution of yeast in 0.5% w/v methyl cellulose solution to induce pyrexia. Rectal temperature of each animal was taken before and 19 h after the yeast injection. Animals that did not show a minimum increase of 0.5 °C in temperature 19 h after injections were discarded. After 19 h of yeast injection, the MHN was administered
orally to two groups of animals. A volume of 3 ml/kg of vehicle (0.3% CMC) was administered orally to the control group. The fourth group of animals received the standard drug, paracetamol (orally) . The rectal temperature of each animal was again recorded at 20, 21, 22 and 23 h after yeast treatment.

2.9. Statistical analysis
Results are expressed as mean± standard error of mean. Statistical significance was determined using one
way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test for multiple comparisons.Values with Pb0.05 compared with control were considered statistically significant in all cases.
