Slot Rankings - How Wide Receivers Score More Touchdowns in the Slot

Slots are the same for each spin. There aren't any tricks that can aid you in beating them. However, there are a few things you can keep in mind to increase your chances of winning.

Take a look at the RTP of a game first. This figure tells you how many players are likely to win on average over the long run.

Slot Efficiency

The aim of efficiency in slot machines is to maximize the number of changes to the slot that can be made without violating a predefined set of constraints. These constraints may include, for instance the minimum operational delay (usually expressed as scheduling delays) fairness, equity, fairness access, competition, environmental goals and more. The process of distributing slots is a complex one and optimizing it to reach the desired performance metrics requires careful analysis of all factors at play.

The process starts by identifying the different types of requests to be prioritised based on precedents from the past. Once the type is identified, the slot allocation model is then used to minimize the delay criteria. A number of research gaps have been identified regarding the slot scheduling models that optimize particularly when it comes to trying to balance fairness and efficiency.

A common method of prioritizing slot assignments is the ABC (assigned by velocity) strategy that collects information on the history of an item and creates a velocity group. Items that have the highest velocity get the most slots, while less popular items are placed further back in the warehouse.

Another important aspect of slot effectiveness is the distance factor, which is the amount of space that has to be allocated to support the pick-to ship process. The measure considers the speed group, racking placements and the characteristics of handling equipment of the products.

It is important to also consider the cost of a change in the slot to increase the efficiency of the slot. A quick review of the typical slot change will help managers understand the costs associated with the move, and also the effects it may have on other aspects of slot efficiency, like velocity.

After a month or two validating the data and re-dating recommendations, the casino began using the system more frequently. The gaming operations team estimates they will save between 10 and 12 hours each month on their traditional analyses and this doesn't include time they spend reviewing the data rated by customers or developing and analyzing new, actionable strategies.

Based on the new recommendations from SRE, the team was able to come up with hundreds of suggestions for game changes that increased player revenue. Dancing Drums Explosion, and Twinstar Wave XL from Scientific Games saw significant gains in the top lease rankings and WAP rankings. The casino was also capable of shifting its budget away from marketing to other costs and improve the floor's performance.

Perimeter Efficiency

We all know that wide receivers tend to score more touchdowns on perimeter targets than slot targets because they're typically targeted further downfield and are often faced with one-on-one coverage. However, what may surprise people is the difference between the top five slot receivers and the rest of them in terms of scoring on those targets that are located in the perimeter.

Of the wide receivers who have had at least 40 targets each of the last two seasons the top five slot scorers on the perimeter routes were all speed receivers: Mike Evans, Amari Cooper, Tyler Lockett and Michael Gallup. The bottom of this list is dominated by players who are more possession-based like Chris Godwin and Diontae Johnston. The Bucs are likely to shift the latter two players into the slot more often this season, which will increase their targets. However, they'll need to improve their scoring on the perimeter in order to maintain their high standard.

Speedy wideouts are the main benefit of moving into the slot because they generally are more likely to be open downfield when their route isn't obstructed by a linebacker or cornerback. Corey Coleman is the only wide receiver who's not a speedy wideout, but could benefit from more slot time. He's a solid player for intermediate and short routes.

The bottom of the list features more possession-based receivers that are more effective on short and intermediate routes than those in deep areas, such as Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Jeudy will be the Rams main slot receiver this year, is a sleeper pick. Courtland Cooper and Amari Sutton are likely to play a bigger role in downfield targets. Hamler is likely to excel on intermediate and short-to middle routes, since that's what he did well in 2021 when he played for the Bills. Hamler could be a great replacement for the departed wideout Jordan Matthews.

Percentage of Snaps In Slot

The proportion of snaps that a receiver makes in the slot is a good indicator of their ability to run deep routes. However, it isn't always a reliable indicator of a receiver's abilities because certain receivers excel in the slot, but cannot play deep, and vice versa.

Alshon Jeffrey, for example, leads the league in the number of targets he receives per game (4.8) However, he's only ranked 6th in slot receiving scores (58.5). This is due to the fact that most of his targets come from outside, and it's a challenge to get a first down when playing an open, deep route.

On the other hand, certain receivers excel in playing inside and aren't able to do much on the perimeter. Robby Anderson, for instance, was given 978 snaps by the Panthers this season. He completed 74% of his route in the slot, as opposed to only 26% of his boundary routes. This is a significant difference and shows how much more productive he is when aligned in the slot.

Furthermore, the Buccaneers' Chris Godwin lines in the middle on the majority of his passing downs, and has a top-five slot receiving score (58.5). However he also ran 51% of his perimeter routes last season and is a stud in one-on-one coverage.

Speed receivers are usually more effective when lined up inside, as they are able to be targeted down the field, and often are in one-on-one coverage. This is why you'll find names like Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Amari Cooper in the top five of our list.

McDuffie, Moore and other slot cornerbacks are also part of this group. Both have been able create pressures in the passing game and have McDuffie leading the NFL with seven forced fumbles, and Moore being the most effective tackle stop rate on this list (-3.5). Spagnuolo made McDuffie's abilities more effective by putting him in the slot for nickel and dime packs and then shifting him to the outside while playing base defense. In addition, Moore's ability to stop big run plays has been an enormous advantage when playing in the slot.

Percentage of Snaps Outside

While the NFL's top receivers such as Baldwin, Golden Tate and Larry Fitzgerald excel on the perimeter, it's worth noting that their slot counterparts are just as good. As a group, wide receivers with a high slot receiver grade score touchdowns around the same rate as players who play on the outside. This is mostly because quarterbacks have a more stable target distribution when throwing to slot and outside receivers than to other inside options, such as tight ends and backfield pass-catchers.

That's why it's interesting to see a receiver like CeeDee Lamb on this list in 2022, as he plays the slot in three WR sets and flanker in two of them. In fact, he's running a higher number of routes in the slot than the majority of players on this chart. This is an excellent way to gain matchup advantages for your team. It also helps explain why Lamb is the most highly-rated receiver in our system.

top mobile slots plays the X-position, and can make big plays from outside. Lamb isn't as fast as some of the other players in this ranking however he's still an elite wide receiver that fits well into the Cowboys scheme.

Mecole Hardman, a player who is able to put up big numbers with targets of all kinds is a further example. He has a very high slot receiver grade and is among the best players in the league at catching back-shoulder throws but he's also an excellent player for contested-catch.

Jalen Hilton is another player who is slot specialist. He's lined up in this position on 85.7 percent his defensive snaps thus far in the season. He has the third-lowest EPA for targets and the fifth-best EPA for run stops among cornerbacks in the slot. This makes him an important part of his team's defensive line. He's struggled to stop passes from the outside, and his EPA against this kind of target is negative. This is a result of playing with poor linebackers and safeties who don't have the same size, speed and route-running ability.
