Strollers Explained In Fewer Than 140 Characters
The Lightest, Most Compact and Easiest to Fold Travel Strollers

This stroller is among the lightest, most compact and easiest to fold. It is a great stroller with a great sun canopy, and multi-position recline.

For less than $100 it's an excellent value. It comes with an easy, compact fold and a carry strap, so it's easy to carry over your shoulder or take with you on public transportation.

1. Lightweight

When it comes to strollers for travel lightweight and easy to fold are the most important factors. The top models we tested fold down using only one hand (and sometimes two hands) and can fit in overhead luggage compartments. They are also compact and roll well making them easy to maneuver in tight spaces. Some even come with the option of a telescoping handle to parents of different heights. Find a lightweight, easy-to transport stroller for your family, no matter if you're planning to go on a short trip with a newborn or taking a long-haul journey with a toddler.

To determine the top strollers for travel, we analyzed nine that meet our minimum weight and size requirements. Each model was tested on city streets, country side walks, and in the airport terminal to assess its ability to maneuver, its ease of carrying and folding and overall comfort for the child.

Our top picks are the Babyzen YoYo2 ($320) that has the simplest fold of all the travel strollers we tested and can fit into overhead bins for airplanes. It's car seat-compatible and its seat reclines almost completely flat, which makes it suitable for infants. The car also features an undercarriage that is deep, a bag-hook on the handle and a UPF50+ canopy to offer plenty of protection to your child.

The Cybex Orfeo (320) is another option. It features a concertina folding that can be completed by one hand and is very light. The padded five-point harness, an adjustable crotch strap and a Reversible seats protect your child with a huge undercarriage basket as well as a reversible seat ensure that there is enough space for their possessions. It is also compatible with the brand's infant car seat. This makes it a good option for families starting from the time of birth.

The Coya TRVL ($320), an all-hands, one-step fold and is also compatible with car seats and comes with an enormous canopy. It's more expensive than the other models in this category however, it comes with additional features like a large cupholder and parent pocket, an adjustable handlebar to accommodate parents of all heights, and a comfortable carry strap. Its simplicity does sacrifice a bit of durability compared to other models in this category, but.

2. Folding is simple

If you're constantly on the move, your stroller has to be easy to open and close. If you have a bag of groceries or children in your arms you don't want to wrestle with a complicated stroller to close it. Even with only one hand, best travel strollers can be folded up quickly and compactly. Many come with a comfortable carrying strap that is comfortable over your shoulder.

In our tests, we awarded the Libelle stroller high marks for its compactness and easy folding. It also has other attractive features. It rolls smoothly across all surfaces and features an extensive canopy that gives enough coverage. It's also surprisingly light and stands in its own right when folded. This makes it easy to keep in storage.

If you're a parent who wants to walk right up to the gate and put their stroller into the overhead bin, we suggest looking for a model that promises to fit inside. The Munchkin Sparrow, for example is perfect for the smallest fold and comes with a handy protective travel cover, but it comes with no recliner, and a small cargo space that can only hold a small tote or diaper bag (no backpacks).

The Babyzen Yoyo 2 is another option. It folds concertina style, but it offers a reversible seat for riding back-toback or face-toface. Our managing editor was able to open and close, although she wasn't thrilled by how the handle slides behind the seat when folded.

The newest model of stroller that is a travel model is the tri-fold, which folds in thirds and provides the best combination of compactness and features. The UPPAbaby Minu for instance, comes with a reclined seat, a non-structured rear storage pouch, and a locking clasp to keep it folded. It's a bit bigger than the umbrella models made by the brand, but it folds far smaller than its G-Luxe and G-Link counterparts and has a carry strap with padding that can be worn over your shoulder.

3. Easy to store

The most effective strollers for travel can be folded down to a compact size that can be easily stored. They can be easily stowed in the trunk of a car, or in the overhead bin of an airplane. Some models even come with a carrying strap that is easy to carry on your shoulders, so you don't have to be concerned about your hands getting tired. They're also lighter than normal strollers. This makes them easy to lift and carry around for a quick stroll in the neighborhood or at the airport.

The stroller performed extremely well on our durability tests and was easy to maneuver on all types of surfaces. From smooth hardwoods to shag flooring, this stroller is a great option. Some of our testers found it a bit flimsy and the handlebar wasn't cushioned to ensure that your hands are comfortable. Another thing to think about is the size of the storage basket is it's on the smaller side, and some parents found it difficult to squeeze the large diaper bag inside it.

In general, we recommend calling your airline prior to time to verify their specific guidelines for bringing on board strollers, as they can vary. This is especially important if you wish to check your stroller's gate-ability that allows you to navigate the airport without it and still use it when you're on the plane (though this isn't a viable option for families who need car seats or a toddler booster).

If you're looking to purchase a straightforward travel stroller that's lightweight and folds down to a compact size, the Contours Itsy is a great option. The Contours Itsy comes completely assembled and all you have to do is snap in the bumper bar. It comes with an apron for a cup for the parent and an additional back pocket. However it doesn't come with an over-sized basket. This can make it difficult to pack the essentials for a long trip.

If you are frequent travelers, we suggest that you consider a stroller that is more robust, with more features and the ability to hold more cargo. The UPPAbaby Miniu, for instance, comes with many of the same features as its G-Luxe and G-Link counterparts, but it's more compact and folds more quickly. It's also slightly sturdier than an umbrella stroller and it comes with a cushioned carrying strap that takes some of the weight off your shoulders.

4. Comfortable

Strollers are often used for long periods of time while traveling, and comfort is important. Look for seats with ample padding and a recline system that allows you to set it at multiple angles. Also note whether the canopy extends to provide coverage from the sun and if it has mesh windows that allow airflow. Look for a model with an organizer for the parents or a cupholder, as well as an enormous basket underneath the seat, if you have to carry things around. When looking for a jogger for older children be sure to look at the age range. Also, think about whether your child is comfortable in the seat, even without an infant car-seat.

How a stroller rolls is also vital. It should be able to move easily over various surfaces including smooth hardwoods and shag carpets to cobblestones and gravel. It must be able of handling curbs, stairs and other obstacles with ease. If your travel plans involve the majority of walking, you should choose a stroller that is light to help you avoid leg and back pain.

A high-quality travel stroller should be simple to use, too. It should be easy to put together and snap together when put in the proper location. It should also fold flat and fit into the trunk of your car or the overhead compartments of planes. It should also remain upright when folded, so that you can grab it with one hand while holding your baby in the opposite.

The Joie Tourist is an excellent choice for parents who are looking for a lightweight quality, high-end travel stroller. It comes with multiple recline positions to allow your child to rest comfortably. The canopy extends to provide ample sun protection, with UPF protection. Additionally, it includes a variety of additional features including a footmuff, cup holder, and rain cover are all included. Charlotte is thrilled that it's suitable from newborns to four years old and does not require an additional car seat adapter.
