In the late 1500s, Settlers from England didn't just come. People from Europe like Spain, France, Sweden and the Netherlands headed to new lands because walking takes a long time to get to their objective and might be impossible to walk to Europe from Spain. The colony in Jamestown made a settle for people to search around in 1607. That is in present day Virginia too! The Pilgrims settled at Plymouth which is now current day Massachusetts. Over then next 100 years more English colonies settled along the Atlantic Coast. Meanwhile, France controlled which is now present day Canada and present day midwest. In the French and Indian war in 1754 to 1763, so that is about 9 years of war! England won the war though because it got control of Canada which makes them have bigger land and strength. Most colonies identify themselves by British Citizens. They bought goods from other people and read newspaper like regular citizens would do. Most wealthy colonies copy other rich colonies with fancy restaurant, hotels, houses and nice dancing. All the colonies have a local government to control the town or area. Most people were just regular farmers or in regular families trying to survive with all the money they try to make. New England became the most popular colony to trade with goods passing through farms and boats. Then all the colonies became the United states of America.
