Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique keycase to commemorate the brand's centennial. Made of Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a fluttering 'B' paperweight, a set keys and a brochure that features never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.

Design

Bentley has announced a special specification for cars manufactured after the year 2019 in order to celebrate its centennial. It is known as the Centenary Specification. This includes cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embroidered with Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. The key is made from vegetable tanned leather. It takes more than two days to make each one. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, stitched to seal, and polished to produce a premium result. It is lightweight and durable, and it fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's huge car key, but it feels more substantial and premium.

Secure-A-Key is also included to protect against keyless entry theft. This device is inserted into the remote-control fob, and it shuts it down when the key has not been used for a short period of time. It blocks thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which will allow the key to be opened and start the car.

The Crewe factory workers do not make use of a machine to create perfectly-matched leather seats. Instead they do it by hand. Drivers must park their vehicles manually, rather than using sensors built-in to direct them to parallel and perpendicular spots.

Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization abilities with a unique Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays tribute to William Osler, the founder of Bentley. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays tribute to the founding father of the brand, William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars include a key that displays a piece of the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
