A car like the Continental GT W12 beckons as you approach it with its striking sculptural appeal and power through carefully curated lighting.

The Continental GT is Bentley's most sophisticated open-top vehicle. The rear of the tonneau in the Continental GT, for example included the largest piece ever of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

It is this bespoke design, quality and attention to detail that have established Bentley as the most sought-after automobile brand. The company continues to push boundaries with the latest technologies and hand-crafted products. This includes the introduction of an electronic tilt-opening rear window sunroof and a handcrafted Apple iPad docking station.

A century since its founding, Bentley - now under sole Volkswagen ownership after years of conflict with BMW - celebrated its centenary in 2019. Before pandemic planning took the center stage, the company had a range of special events and launches planned to mark this milestone event.

Design

Bentley is a luxury car manufacturer that creates extravagant and luxurious cars. However, even keys stand out. The Bentayga key is made from sterling silver and has the large 'B' symbol that lets everyone know you're driving a Bentley. It also has the years 1919 and 2019 to commemorate the company's centenary.

Bentley Mulliner reinvented and designed the Mulsanne to become the ultimate Grand Touring vehicle. The rear seats are designed to offer passengers unparalleled comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. The bespoke heating and ventilation system as well as the air conditioning system was developed to give each passenger the perfect temperature control.

The Mulsanne is equipped with a twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine that generates 560bhp as well as 479lb-ft torque. This incredibly powerful power is paired with a new suspension system that provides Bentley's trademark quiet ride.

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a custom-designed specification known as the Centenary Specification for cars that were built in 2019. This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are stitched in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. A custom Bentley key case is also included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne key features buttons that open the trunk and a second button that turns on the car. It also has a button to activate the parking break. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors when parked in a tight area. This feature helps you get into and out of your car.

The key is made from vegetable tanned leather and takes more than two days to create each one. It is hand cut and shaped, then sewn, sealed and polished to give an excellent finish. It is durable, compact, and fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design resembles the Volkswagen Phaeton's big car key, but feels more substantial and premium.

Secure-A-Key is also included to protect against keyless entry theft. The device is inserted into the remote-control fob, and then shuts it off when the key has not been used for a short period of time. It stops thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices that can be used to unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley's distinctive design reflects company's values of exquisite craftsmanship and engineering expertise. It also includes cutting-edge technology. More than 4,000 employees work at the Crewe headquarters, which is responsible for the development, design, and production of Bentley automobiles. They employ skills that have been handed down for generations and apply them to the latest in automotive technology. This is the hallmark of British manufacturing at its finest.

Personalisation

Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to design their own car. Guests sit at a series of images referred to as "mood stations" and select a series of photos ranging from picturesque landscapes to sporting events that can inspire them to design their own. As each selection is made, a pattern appears and reveals the model and color preferences for the personalized Bentley.

The resulting configuration is saved to individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys, which are presented to guests in a custom-made key case. Keys can be adorned with Bentley Muliner Personalised welcome lamps, which illuminate the path of the opening door with the owner's logo or name as they approach the car.

Bentley estimates it takes approximately 500 man-hours to craft and assemble the average Mulsanne. A key to that time-consuming effort is a deliberate refusal to take advantage of modern technology. The Crewe factory workers do not make use of a machine to create perfectly-matched cross stitched leather seats. Instead they do it by hand. And rather than using the car's built-in sensors guide it into perpendicular and parallel parking spots drivers must do it manually.

Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization capabilities in an exclusive Mulsanne W.O. Edition, that pays homage to the William Osler, the founder of Bentley.
