Colonists from England enjoyed freedom.[so they had freedom] . They were free to govern themselves as long as they followed English law and were loyal to the King. This was known as indirect rule.


THE MAYFLOWER: The Mayflower was a ship that carried English Pilgrims to North America in 1620.

WHAT IS A BURGESS?!?
A burgess is a governing body member.[where was it established] The House of Burgesses was the first legislative government in the colonies. It was established at Jamestown in 1619.



WHAT IS THE DIFRENECE BETWEEN MONORCY AND DEMOCRICY:
Monarchy
In a monarchy, only one person, usually a king or queen, holds the power. In the past, some monarchs limited the rights of individuals. In a monarchy, people typically did not choose their leader.


Democracy:
The citizens rule in a democracy because the people make decisions by electing leaders. The people together, not just one person, have the power.

vote, protest, petition, run for public office, write letters to officials, participate in town hall meetings.
