The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH) is a federal law that grants workers several important rights. This includes the right to report a workplace injury.
The OSH also states that employers have a general duty to provide safe and healthy working environments. OSHA monitors workplaces for evidence of unsafe working conditions and trains employers on how to create and maintain a safe and healthy workplace.
The law also protects employees from retaliation by their employers. Employers are not allowed to fire employees or threaten them for using their rights to report health and safety issues.
The most important of these rights is the ability to report an injury. When an employee is injured on the job, his or her employer is not permitted to take action to deny or deny compensation.
Other important rights include the right to file a complaint with OSHA, participate in OSHA inspections, and obtain copies of workplace monitoring results. Some employees even have the option of participating in an informal conference to discuss an OSHA citation or a settlement agreement.
