Different Types of Heart Disease
There are a variety of different types of heart disease. Some can happen during your lifetime, such as coronary artery disease, and others are congenital (heart defects you were born with).
A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to part of your heart muscle is cut off. This can be caused by plaque or blood clots in your coronary arteries. A heart attack can also occur if the blood vessels that supply your heart muscle narrow suddenly.
Cardiac arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm, which can cause shortness of breath or other symptoms. It may also lead to heart failure and other problems if it isn't treated quickly enough.
Valve disease happens when the valves that connect the left and right sides of your heart don't open or close properly, causing blood to flow backwards through your heart instead of flowing forwards. It can be caused by a hole in the septum, which separates the left and right sides of your heart, or by a narrowing of one of the valves that connect your heart to your lungs (pulmonary stenosis).
Cardiomyopathy is a condition that can affect any of the four chambers in your heart. Medical alarm It causes the heart to enlarge and stiffen, making it harder for it to pump blood efficiently.
