How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob
Every car must have an electronic remote that can unlock or lock your vehicle. The batteries in these devices are able to last for and they can also go bad.
You can add a second key to a Saab 93 for about $400 if you don't already have two. This is done by purchasing a new TWICE module from the dealer and installing it with a hand-held computer, called a Tech2.
Key Replacement
Many used Saabs come with one key. It is a good idea as soon as you can, to buy a spare key. This will be less expensive than replacing the entire vehicle if you lose it. It is also important to rotate your keys frequently so that they don't get all the wear and tear and also to keep them clean.
If you lose your primary key, you'll need replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module as well as a new key and special programming to convince the car that you are not trying to steal it. The replacement of these modules can cost more than $400. The components are ordered via mail so it's not a job that can be completed in a single day for the majority of locksmiths, or even dealers.
The good news is, most modern Saab vehicles can have a secondary key added to the system. This is possible without having to replace the original computer. The dealer will need to use a specific handheld computer known as Tech-2 Tech-2 to add the second key and then program it into the vehicle. Some garages that are independent can do this, however the process is more complex and they must reprogramme the EEPROM on your car's computer to allow it to accept the new key.
Key fobs replacement
Saab owners whose last key was stolen or lost require replacement in the earliest time possible. The steps to get a second working Saab 9-3 fob are through the services department of the dealer. It can cost hundreds, including an entirely new key and TWICE module, which is central electronic that can be used to detect theft.
If you have a spare key however, the process is a lot less expensive. The new key should be compatible to the original module and a second-hand key is not likely to work in this way, but genuine OEM replacement can usually be obtained from a dealer at only a fraction of the price.
Getting the case for a new SAAB key fob is easy. You can use a flathead screwdriver to pry the case open, but be careful not to damage the electronic components inside. After removing the electronics and battery to make room for a new case in the shell of the fob. Align the two pieces and gently press them together to allow them to click in place. When the new fob is installed and synchronized, you can use it again. You should be aware that the process of adding a new key is more complicated than replacing an emergency key. The dealer will need to use a special tool called the Tech-2.
Keys to Replace Ignition
First, ensure that the transmission is in Park. This will stop your car from rolling if the lock in your transmission fails or if your manual transmission pops into gear.
In most cases the issue lies in the electronic components of the key fob, which controls the way the car recognizes the key when it's placed into the ignition cylinder. The key made of steel is easy to copy but it is the electronic part of the key fob which makes the car recognize the keys.
This is not something that a locksmith can do. It must be done by a dealer or through a special handheld computer called Tech2. This is not something that a locksmith can do, it has to be done through a dealer or a special handheld computer called Tech2. Tech2.
If you already have a working key fob then adding another will not cost more than $200. If you need a metal key however, the cost to create it is another factor. Most dealers will offer this service, but it could take several weeks to get both the part and the car programmed.
