How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob
All cars must have a remote/transmitter that can lock or unlock your car. The batteries in these devices have a lifespan and can eventually go bad.
You can add a second key to a Saab 93 for about $400 If you don't already have two. This is done by purchasing a new TWICE module from a dealer and installing it with a hand-held computer, called Tech2. Tech2.
Keys Replacement
Many used Saabs have one key. It's a good idea to buy a spare as soon as you can since it's cheaper to do this than having to replace the entire car in case you lose only one key. It is crucial to rotate the keys in order to keep them from wearing and wear and tear.
If you lose your primary key you will need to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module along with a new key and a unique program to convince the car that you are not trying to steal it. The replacement of these modules could cost over $400 and the components are ordered via mail therefore it's not a same-day job for locksmiths, or dealers.
The good news is, the majority of modern Saab vehicles can have a secondary key added to the system. This is possible without replacing the original computer. The dealer will have to use a specific handheld computer known as a Tech-2 to insert the second key and program it into the vehicle. saab car key replacement that are independent can do this, but the procedure is more complex and they will need to re-programme the EEPROM of your car's computer to allow it to accept the new key.
Key Fobs for Replacement
Saab owners whose last key was lost or stolen will have to replace it immediately. The steps to obtain an original working fob requires the service department of the dealer and will cost hundreds of dollars, including a new key and a TWICE module that is a central electronic theft warning.
If you have a spare key it is less costly. The new key has to be connected to the original TWICE Module. A second-hand one is not compatible. However a genuine OEM replacement is available from a dealer at less than what it costs.
It is easy to take the case from a new SAAB Key Fob. Utilize a flathead to pry open the case, but be careful to avoid damaging the electronics inside. After you have removed the battery and electronics, you can fit a new case into the shell of the fob. The two pieces should be aligned and gently press them in so that they click in place. Once everything is fitted then you can resynchronize your new fob. It's worth noting that adding a new key is more difficult than simply replacing the emergency key, and requires dealer assistance with a tool known as the Tech-2.
Keys for Replacement Ignition
First, make sure that the transmission is in Park. This will stop your car from turning if the lock on your transmission fails or if your manual transmission pops into gear.
In the majority of cases the issue lies with the electronics in the key fob. They control the way the car recognizes the key when it's put into the ignition cylinder. The metal key itself is fairly easy to duplicate but the electronic component of the key fob is what makes the car recognize the key.
Adding an additional key to a Saab car requires a specific transmitter along with a transponder with it and some type of special programming of the car to convince the computer it is not trying to steal the vehicle. This is not something that a locksmith can do, it has to be done by a dealer, or a special handheld computer called a Tech2.
The good news is that if you have one key fob that works, the cost of purchasing another should be no more than $200 or so. The other cost is the actual manufacturing of the metal key, if you need it. A majority of dealers can make this, but it could take a few weeks to get the key and car programmed.
Replacement Remotes
The Saab 9-3's cabin is designed from the driver's perspective outward with clear layouts and the feel of the controls. The dashboard of the Saab 9-3 is designed to arc around the driver. It also features a turbo vacuum gauge that adds a unique touch. The steering wheels made of leather feature audio, cruise control, and phone controls.
The console that sits between the seats is equipped with a single cupholder, and the knobs for the Bose audio and dual-zone climate controls are laid out according to logic. The touch-screen display can be distracting while driving.
The 9-3 is a good performance in terms of power. Its base low pressure turbo model takes around 8 seconds to reach a speed of 60 mph. The more powerful Viggen is able to do it in only 6.9 seconds.
The handling of this car is an important element to its success. Despite its nose-heavy 60/40 front-to-rear weight distribution, the Turbo X feels agile and balanced on two-lane highways.
The fuel economy is the sole drawback to this car's impressive dynamic. It gets about 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg highway with the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. The Turbo X special edition with more power will be available in 2008 only. This model comes with an unique rear-seat that folds flat to increase cargo space.
