How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob

All cars need to have a key fob that has an electronic remote that can lock and unlock your vehicle. Batteries in these devices can be faulty.

If you're considering purchasing a Saab 93 and don't have two keys, you could add one for about $400. This requires purchasing a brand new TWICE module from the dealer and installing it with a hand-held computer, called a Tech2.

The good news is that most modern Saab vehicles can have a second key that can be added to the system. This is possible without replacing the original computer. The dealer will have to use a special handheld computer called a Tech-2 to insert the second key and program it into the vehicle. Some independent garages are able to do this, but the process is more complicated. They will have to reprogram your existing car's EEPROM so it will accept the new key.

Key fobs to replace the replacement key

Saab owners who have lost their previous key or had it stolen must get a new replacement as soon as they can. The steps to obtain an original working fob requires the services department of the dealer. This could cost hundreds of dollars, which includes an entirely new key and TWICE module, which is a central electronic that can be used to detect theft.

The process is less expensive if you have an extra. The new key has to be paired to the original module, and a used one is unlikely to function in this way, but genuine OEM replacement can usually be obtained from a dealer at only a fraction of the price.

It's easy to remove the case from a new SAAB Key Fob. Utilize a flathead to pry open the case however, be sure to avoid damaging the electronic components inside. After you have removed the electronics and battery and battery, you can put a new case in the shell of the old fob. This is not something that a locksmith can do, it has to be done by a dealer or a handheld computer that is called Tech2. Tech2.

If you already have a working key fob then adding another shouldn't cost more than $200. If you need a metal key for your car, the cost of manufacturing it is a different issue. Most dealers can do this, however it could take a few weeks to get the part and the car programmed.
