Watch Out: How Best Robot Vacuum For Carpet Is Taking Over And What You Can Do About It
The Best Robot Vacuum For Carpet

There's a robot that can be found for all carpet types, regardless of whether it's low-pile or high-pile. These smart appliances are able to navigate your home on their own and pick up dirt and clean under furniture.

A lot of them come with advanced features, like mapping, which allows them to navigate around your home and keep track of furniture placement. They can also boost suction power to tackle dirtier surfaces.

iRobot Roomba 694

The iRobot Roomba is a basic robot vacuum that performs well on both bare flooring and low-pile floor carpet. It has good suction and cleans all kinds of debris, but it struggles with larger debris like sand or rice. It does a good job cleaning pet hair, but is not as resistant to knots as premium Roomba models such as the j7 and I6.

The Roomba is easy to use. It has a trio of buttons on its cover: 'Clean' initiates an entire cleaning cycle, 'Dock' puts it back into its charging station, and 'Spot Clean' triggers the targeted cleaning. It can be controlled via an app for smartphones that allows you to program or stop/start cycles as well as alter settings. It can also be paired with smart home devices like Alexa or Google Assistant for voice-controlled operation.

This vacuum cleaner is slower than other models, but it can get into the most crevices and corners. It comes with a large bin, which makes it easier to empty. It is compatible with digital mapping and virtual barriers which allow you to set the robot to avoid certain areas or stop cleaning completely to stop it from getting stuck.

It's not the best in its price range but it's still better than most other options. The Roborock E4 has a better cleaning efficiency than the Roomba 694 and it's able to clean carpets with low pile as well as bare. It also has a longer-lasting battery and a cleaner route. It also feels better-made and has fewer components that need regular maintenance, costs less to maintain over its life, and charges faster than the 694.

It's also worth looking at other, more premium models from the iRobot range, such as the 981 or the v7. The v7 and 981 are more expensive, but they have significant improvement in cleaning efficiency, for both bare and low pile floors. They also have a bigger dirt compartment and charge faster, move more easily and are easier to pair up with smart home devices.

Shark RV1001AE IQ

This self-emptying robot with a budget does an okay job on hard floors as well as low-pile carpet. Its combo brush reaches into corners and edges, and it automatically boosts suction when it senses carpet. cleaning robot mop and vacuum does an excellent job of cleaning dirt on carpet in the middle. The IQ has a small footprint and a self-emptying function. If you want to change the floor level or set no-go areas, you'll need to manually reset the map.

The IQ app provides advanced mapping and automated features, however it isn't equipped with no-go zones. These are only available on iRobot robots. The smart-pathing system of the app permits for better maneuverability and the high-pile feature of its carpet cleaning mode is efficient but it could get stuck on rug tassels.

In our tests, we observed that the IQ was able to handle pet hair effectively. It was able to remove lots of debris on bare floors and a good amount of medium-pile rug. It was less effective on shag carpet, where it struggled to reach dirt and dust buried in the fibers. It was capable of navigating chair legs, tight spaces, and the wooden base of an IKEA step stool. We did notice that it was a bit slower on floors that were not paved however it soon recovered speed and performed more thoroughly than other robots we tested.

The IQ is a better choice for the majority of users than the iRobot Roomba. It has a larger dustbin, lasts longer on a charge and does a better job of maneuvering itself over obstacles. It has mopping tools that are able to remove sticky mess. The iRobot, however, feels better built and has fewer parts that need maintenance or replacement and has lower cost per year, and can create virtual no-go zones using its companion app. It is able to even resume the cleaning process from where it left off if it has run out of battery before finishing the job. The iRobot can also be controlled using voice, which is a huge benefit for many users.

Eufy 11S

The RoboVac 11S by eufy isn't exactly the most feature-rich robot vacuum on the market but it does provide great cleaning power for a low price. This robot vacuum is designed for budget-conscious consumers who don't need a complex mapping system, or even an app, to control it. This robot can run for more than an hour and comes with an remote, cleaning tool, AC power adapter, charging base and extra filters.

The 11S is slim and elegant and has a tempered glass upper deck that looks like the brushed appearance of aluminum. It's a nice stylistic different from Roomba, Samsung, and Neato designs that are more utilitarian and industrial.

The eufy11S performed well in our tests of removing larger debris and fine dust from floors. It struggled to deep clean high-pile and medium-pile carpets. The device is also prone to smack into furniture and people in its path however, it's able detect obstacles with sensors. When it encounters them, it ceases to move and emits an alarm so that you can manually steer it through the obstacle before getting back to work.

Another great feature of the eufy11S is its BoostIQ mode, which allows you to set the robot to automatically adjust its suction strength to match the floor type and the amount of the mess. It's also simple to use the remote to direct the 11S in the direction you'd like it to move.

Single Room Mode is a great alternative if you have a small amount of furniture in the room you'd like to vacuum. The eufy can spend up to 30 minutes cleaning the space it is assigned.

You can also choose Edge Cleaning, which limits the amount of time in each location to 20 minutes for optimal battery life. By selecting this option the eufy can move in a spiral fashion to clean edges and corners for a thorough clean.

Miele Complete C1

The Miele Complete C1 is an excellent mid-range canister robot vacuum that can be a great performer on carpet. Its performance on carpets with no floor is also outstanding. It can pick up fine debris like rice with ease, and it doesn't lose suction power even when its dirt bin fills. Its design that is allergy-friendly and sealed with air traps allergens and keeps your family healthy. It uses an onboard HEPA filter and a self-emptying dustbin, which means you won't need to purchase additional filters or a separate vacuum bag.

It's not as powerful as more expensive models, but it's ideal for fighting staining and deep cleaning. Two front cameras provide live images to your smartphone, and it comes with one of the top obstacles-avoiding systems we've seen. It comes with a large bin, a long running time and an easy, bump-free clean-up.

Contrary to other robots unlike most other robots, Complete C1 can switch between the standard powerhead and the turbo head to suit different types of floors. The turbo head is ideal for carpeting that is high-pile and low-pile and the standard powerhead is great on unfinished floors and light rugs. It also has an automatic height adjustment system that enables it to adjust to different types of flooring without manual adjustments.

This model comes with a SBD 285-3 Classic Combination Floorhead that can handle both hard floors and carpeting of medium-pile. The powerhead is also easy to maneuver and can get into difficult spots. It has five levels of surface adjustment as well as a switch that lets you turn off the brushroll to prevent hairs from getting tangled.

The Classic C1 also has a self-cleaning brush roll, an UtraClean mode that moves back and forth over the same area three times for the best possible clean and a self-emptying bin that can be empty at the touch of a button. The noise level is a little higher than that of other models however, its powerful 1,200-watt motor as well as solid construction make it well worth the extra cost.

If you're willing to pay some extra money then the Miele Complete C3 canister robot vacuum is a great all-around robot vacuum. It performs better on carpets than the Classic C1. It is more efficient on all floor types and is more solidly constructed, and includes a HEPA filter.
