15 Trends To Watch In The New Year Best Robot Vacuums
Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

The best method to keep your home clean is to use a robot vacuum. It can pick up dust, pet hair and other debris on surfaces.

Some robots can sync with smart assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a hands-free environment. Find models that can be recharged and continue cleaning where they left off.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot mop and vacuum is a great option for households with a variety of. It features a superb navigation system that incorporates GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with many features and controls accessible via the app. It comes with a useful feature that lets you create cleaning zones in areas that require more attention, and Keep Out zones in areas where you don't wish it to go. It also gets software updates, similar to the other Roomba products, which make it better over time.

It's expensive but is also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It has a high-powered battery that can vacuum a large area in less than two hours. Additionally, it can switch between mopping and vacuuming with the press of a button. And unlike other self-emptying robotics that require you to empty the bin after each run, it automatically empties into an even larger waste container on top of its charging dock.

It also has a number of other features, including intelligent obstacle avoidance, which utilizes cameras in conjunction with processor-powered smarts to detect obstacles. It isn't often entangled or entrapped during a cleaning cycle and is the best at avoiding power cables and other objects I've tested. However, it isn't as accurate in detecting pet waste and other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

While Anker-owned Eufy has made an impact in low-cost robot vacuums it's never offered an all-in-one model that could also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that offers a range of features that are advanced and is able to compete with more expensive models.

The main selling point of Eufy's this device is its laser navigation. The X8 makes use of the laser mapping system, which is more accurate than the previous Eufy devices. It takes less time to build an accurate map of your home. It also has the ability to store multiple maps. This is great for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is a good vacuum cleaner on bare floors. It is able to easily throw debris through the side brushes and into its 400ml dustbin. Its tyres are adept at securing edges and corners even though they are circular. Our tests showed that it was able to remove 90 percent of the fur on hard floors.

There's a basic mopping option that utilizes the same water tank as the vacuuming. While this is a good option for spills that aren't too big, you can't regulate the amount of water it is using and this will reduce its effectiveness when dealing with more severe stains. It does, however, do an admirable job of picking up pet hair, with a better speed of pickup than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, powerful appliances. It has a beautiful design, a great navigation system and an impressive cleaning power. It has some oddities in its operation that keep it from being named the top smart robot vacuum .

The RX2 comes with a dual-sensor mapping system which uses LIDAR to map the space and a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and avoiding obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room has been mapped and assigned, you can assign virtual no-go zones and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also begin cleaning manually or change the cleaning mode, watch a live feed from the onboard cameras, and more on the main screen.

The RX2's sensors work well, registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. The suction and sweeping abilities are outstanding, effectively taking away surface debris from medium pile carpeting as well as dust that has been deposited on floors. But it's not the most efficient robot available. Like many other robots it's not a very good climber and has issues with things like thresholds made of metal transition strips.

Some people buy a robot vacuum for the ease of setting a schedule on an app and then forgetting about it for weeks at one time. It's important for a robot capable of the task and that's why our ZDNet staff has compared and examined some of the most popular models in order to help you choose the right one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac that is similar to other, but has a few more features and better performance. Its smart mapping system generates 2D and 3-D maps of your home and makes use of to navigate and avoid obstructions. It is able to detect common obstacles like furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor and an infrared sensor for dropping that keeps it from falling down the stairs make it one of the most agile vacuums we've tested.

In our tests, it effortlessly climbed over thick shag rugs and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigational skills were also impressive as its score for composite tests on carpet and bare floors beat out the competition and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of surface pet hair and litter from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are simpler than competitors. There's an uniform cleaning button on the top. You can launch it via the app or via voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule weekly or daily cleanings, set up no-go zones and check its cleaning history. Ion is clad in a sophisticated dark gray plastic that looks and feels beautiful in your home. The dust bin on the rear is easily accessible for emptying, and removing the filters is also a breeze.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is a great choice if you want a robot vacuum that's simple and has no frills at a low cost. The model isn't equipped with smart features like Alexa integration and digital mapping, which are available in more expensive models. However, if you don't need these features, you could save money.

This robot is simple to setup and use. It doesn't require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does include a remote control which lets you select between various modes and adjust the suction level. It also lets you manually turn off the robovac during scheduled cleaning.

During our tests, the 11S was extremely effective in cleaning dirt and pet hair from hard floors and in carpets with low pile. Its slim profile helped it reach under furniture and other low items that some of the more bulkier robots were unable to reach. It was also able to easily get over thresholds for doors and move between floors and another.

Like other robots, the 11S can take in some objects such as cords, drawstrings for hoodies, and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests you keep these objects off the ground and by using a cord organizer when you can. It also recommends that you periodically clean the dustbin, replace the filters, and wash or change the brushes when needed.

Roomba 990 by iRobot

The Roomba is the flagship model of iRobot's robot vacuum. It's pricey but it's top-performing and arguably the most advanced robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self-navigating features and environmental mapping are a wonder to behold. It also comes with more advanced automation features than many competitors, including the ability to set virtual boundary markers through its mobile application. It's a capable robot vacuum, even if its app isn't the most responsive and the 980's wheels spin out when it is pushed over cables.

One thing we really like about the 980 is that it uses its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to store the floor plan of your home. It will then use this information to design a consistent and efficient cleaning path for every cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum than most high-end robots.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes that grab dirt on carpets and hard floors and the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum’s bin. Its floor tracking sensors help it navigate across furniture and along edges, and Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling down stairs. It can also return automatically to the base station for easy recharges between sessions. The bin capacity and the battery life of the 980 aren't as great as other robot vacuums. However, it's a reliable and solid machine that can keep floors clean for many hours.
