He died from prostate cancer in 2005 and was buried in Libingan ng mga Bayani, Manila's national cemetery for Filipino heroes.

A Filipino painter of Chinese descent, known as a National Artist for Visual Arts, was renowned for his exceptional talent.
Education
Ang attended a Chinese high school where he learned Chinese calligraphy. He moved to Manila and attended the University of Santo Tomas where one of his mentors was Vicente Manansala. He studied in the university from 1952 to 1954. He was forced to stop his studies due to financial constraints
Ang, a renowned Philippine artist, gained recognition for his 1953 Calesa work and his 1979 mural "Men at Work" declared an Important Cultural Property in 2021.
Awards
He bagged third prize at the 5th Shell National Students Art Competition in 1955 for "Calesa." He then went on to receive several awards from the Art Association of the Philippines for works such as "The Bird" (1959), "Fish," and "Still Life in Red" (1963).
