Harry S Truman est né le 8 mai 1884 à Lamar dans le Missouri.
Il est le dernier président à ne pas avoir de diplôme universitaire.
• le 30 juillet 1948: Truman signe le décret mettant fin à la ségrégation raciale au sein des forces armées américaines.
• le 2 février 1948: Truman demande au Congrès de voter des lois pour affermir les droits civiques des minorités (essentiellement les noirs).
• le 14 juin 1950: Truman assiste au lancement de la construction du premier sous-marin à propulsion nucléaire.
• Il a fait la décision de lancer des bombes atomiques sur le Japon (le 6 août 1945 sur Hiroshima puis le 9août sur Nagasaki)
Contrairement aux autres présidents, Harry S Truman ne réside pas à la Maison Blanche pendant la majeure partie de ses mandats
Surnoms: "Man of Independence" ; "Give Em Hell Harry"
Le groupe musical Chicago à même écrit une chanson sur l'ancien président.
