What is Game Online?
Game Online is a video game played over some form of computer network, most often the Internet. These early MUDs were a form of online gaming that allowed users to create their own fantasy worlds and characters in the same time as other players in the same dungeon.

After the graphical advances of the 1980s, developers began introducing multiplayer gaming features into video games. Multiplayer video games are characterized by a combination of competition and cooperation between players, a progression system with unlockables, a multiplayer mode in which the player can connect to a server that matches them with other online players, a voice and text chat function, a dedicated multiplayer game server, and a virtual economy. These features have given rise to a variety of genres, from first-person shooters and role-playing games to action, strategy, and puzzle games.

The most popular online video games are massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs). These titles typically allow players to create and control a character that they can then use to fight other players in a virtual world. MMORPGs are incredibly popular and have garnered significant revenue for their developers. However, these games have also received considerable criticism for their addictiveness and alleged negative effects on the players' real life. Several studies have shown that people who spend significant amounts of their time playing a specific video game can suffer from a number of psychological problems, including depression and anxiety.

In addition to MMORPGs, there are a growing number of online social games and multiplayer video games that utilize the functionality of the Internet.
