Slot Rankings - How Wide Receivers Score More Touchdowns in the Slot

Slots work the same way for every spin, so you won't be able to discover any secret tricks to beat them. There are some tips that you can apply to increase your chances of winning.

First, check out a game's RTP. This statistic shows how much players can anticipate winning in the long-term.

Slot Efficiency

The goal of slot efficiency is of maximising the amount of slot switches that can be made while avoiding the violation of a set of predefined constraints. These constraints usually include the minimal operational delay (usually expressed in terms of scheduling delays) fairness and equity, access and competition, environmental goals and many more. The process of allocation of slots is a complicated one and optimizing it to reach the desired performance metrics requires careful analysis of all factors involved.

The process begins by identifying the types of requests to prioritize based on the past experience. Once the type is identified and the slot allocation model is developed, it is then employed to reduce the delay criteria. A number of research gaps have been discovered regarding the models for optimizing slot scheduling especially when it comes to balancing fairness and efficiency.

A common method for prioritizing slot assignments is the ABC (assigned by velocity) strategy that collects information on the history of an item and creates the velocity group. Items that have the highest speed are given the best slots in the warehouse, while items with slower speeds are placed further back.

The distance factor is another important element in the efficiency of slot machines. It is a measure of the amount of space required for the pick-to-ship process. The measure takes into account the velocity of the items, as in addition to their placement on racking and equipment handling characteristics.

It is also important to take into consideration the costs of a change in the slot to improve the efficiency of the slot. A quick analysis of the typical slot change will help managers understand the costs associated with the move, and also the impact that it might affect other aspects of slot efficiency, such as velocity.

After a month or two validating the data and back-dating recommendations after which the casino began to use the solution more regularly. The gaming operations team estimates that they can save between 10 and 12 hours per month with their traditional analysis. This doesn't include the time spent reviewing the data of customers or creating a new actionable strategy.

Using the new recommendations from SRE, the team was able to come up with dozens of game change suggestions that increased player revenue. Dancing Drums Explosion, and Twinstar Wave XL from Scientific Games saw significant gains in the top lease rankings and WAP rankings. The casino also managed to shift their budget away from marketing and other expenses to improve floor performance.

Perimeter Efficiency

We all know that wide receivers tend to score more touchdowns on perimeter targets than slot targets, since they're often targeted farther downfield and often face one-on-one coverage. What might surprise some, however, is the fact that the top five slot players and the rest of the group score differently on targets in the perimeter.

Mike Evans, Amari cooper, Tyler Lockett, and Michael Gallup were the top five scorers on perimeter routes of the 66 wide receivers who received at least 40 targets during each of the two previous seasons. The bottom of the list was populated with more possession-based receivers including Chris Godwin and Diontae Johnson. The two latter two are likely to see an increase in their targets this season if the Bucs can move them into the slot more frequently, but they'll need to increase their perimeter scoring to keep that high level.

The slot is the ideal option for wideouts who are quick, since they can get open more easily when their route won't be covered by a linebacker or cornerback. The only non-speedy wide receiver on the list who benefits from slot work is Corey Coleman, as he's an extremely reliable target on short and intermediate routes.

Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler and other receivers who are based on possession are at the lowest of the list. They're more effective on shorter and intermediate routes than deep areas. Jeudy is a solid option to be a sleeper for this season as he'll be the primary slot receiver for the Rams while Courtland Sutton and Amari Cooper are likely to be involved in more downfield targets. Hamler should be able to be a star in short-to-mid routes, given that's exactly what he did well in 2021 when he played for the Bills. Hamler could be a fantastic replacement for the departing wideout Jordan Matthews in Buffalo.

Percentage of Snaps in the Slot

The amount of snaps a receiver takes in the slot can be a good indicator for their ability to run routes that are deep. It's not always a true reflection of a receiver's abilities because some receivers are better in the slot but don't play more deep.

Alshon Jeffrey, for example leads the league in targets received per game (4.8) however, he is only 6th in the slot that receives scores (58.5). This is due to the fact that the majority of his targets have come from the outside, and it's hard to gain a first down on a wide-open, deep route in that situation.

On the other hand, some receivers excel at playing inside and aren't able to do much on the perimeter. Robby Anderson, for instance, was given 978 snaps by the Panthers this season. He ran 74% of his route in the slot, as opposed to just 26% on boundaries routes. This is a significant distinction and demonstrates how much more efficient Robby Anderson is when aligned to the slot.

Chris Godwin, a Buccaneers player, lines up inside the majority of his passing downs. He has one of the top five slot receiving scores (58.5). He also played 51% his perimeter routes and is a pro in one-on-1 coverage.

Speed receivers are usually more efficient when they line up inside, as they are able to be targeted down the field and often are in one-on-one coverage. This is why you'll find names like Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Amari Cooper in the top five on our list.

McDuffie, Moore and other slot cornerbacks are also in this group. Both have been able to create pressures in the pass game and have McDuffie leading the NFL with seven forced fumbles and Moore having the highest tackle stop efficiency on this list (-3.5). By deploying McDuffie in the slot when they run nickel or dime packages, and then placing him on the outside in base defense, Spagnuolo has maximized his skills. Moore's ability to stop big run plays is a huge benefit when playing the slot.

Percentage of Snaps Outside

While the NFL's top receivers like Baldwin, Golden Tate and Larry Fitzgerald excel on the perimeter, it's worth noting that their slot counterparts are also good. As a group, wide receivers with high slot receiving grades score touchdowns around the same rate as those who play on the perimeter. This is mainly because quarterbacks are more consistent with their target distribution when they throw to outside and slot wide receivers rather than other inside options such as tight ends and backfield passers.

This is why it's fascinating to see a receiver such as CeeDee Lamb on this list in 2022 since he plays slot in three WR sets, and flanker in two of the sets. He's running more routes in the slot than most of the players on this chart. This is an excellent opportunity to increase matchup benefits for your team. bonus slots helps explain why Lamb is the most highly-rated receiver in our system.

Of course, he also plays the X position, and makes some big plays on the perimeter, too. Lamb isn't as explosive as some of the other players in this ranking but he's an elite wide receiver that is well-suited to the Cowboys scheme.

Mecole Hardman, a different player who puts huge numbers with both types of targets is a different example. He has a very high slot receiver grade and is one of the league's top players at catching back-shoulder throws, however, he's also a formidable opponent for contested catch.

Jalen Hilton is another player who is slot specialist. He's been positioned in this position on 85.7 percent of his defensive snaps so far this season. He has the third-lowest EPA for targets, and the fifth-highest EPA for runs stopped among cornerbacks in the slot. This makes him a valuable member of his team's defensive unit. On the other hand, he's struggled to stop passes from the outside and has given an unfavorable EPA against these types of targets. This is because he's been playing with linebackers and safety players who cannot compete with Hilton's speed, size or ability to run routes.
