The Value of Gown to Youth Life

From twirly gowns to comfy one-piece suits, we have the designs she wants to conquer her days, school and adventures.

In a current PhD study, I checked out the significance of gown to youths' daily lives. I discovered that girls' experiences of ageing and placing themselves on their life course are mediated by the clothes they wear. Ladies' valued and valued clothes is a method through which they can build a sense of themselves as 'older'. I found that girls' experience of the passage of time increases the significance of unique clothes and permits them to experiment with a hyper-feminine identity for one quick, socially sanctioned minute.
It's no secret that the clothes that little girls use are a fundamental part of their self-perception and social identity. But what is it about these special pieces that make them so valuable to them? To address this concern, I spoke with 21 ladies of all ages who wore and cared for their favourite clothing. Ladies took pictures of their clothing and shared these with me, along with stories about why they selected to wear specific ways.

Girls like a good twirly dress. They enjoy the feel of it against their skin, the way that it changes them into a pretty flower or an elegant ballerina when they spin around and dance. They also enjoy the way that their buddies look when they are using these twirly gowns. But what I have actually found that is similarly as crucial to girls is the way that a special dress or piece of clothing can act as an anchor in their lives. They can look back on it with nostalgia and remember a particular event or time when they wore it. These special memories are anchored to their treasured clothes, and it is this psychological connection that is at the heart of the significance that they attach to it. In this article, I will check out how these significant connections are made in between gowns and the girls who wear them. Then, I will examine how these ties are broken as a girl turns into a teenager and begins to lose interest in her favourite pieces of clothing. I will then conclude with some recommendations for how moms and dads can support their daughters' shift to a new identity as a girl.
