The worst line I have ever heard come out of Felicity Smoak's mouth actually didn't even happen on Arrow, it happened on the Flash episode 'All-Star Team Up', when she and Ray went to Central City together. The line I am referring to is when she said to Caitlin (speaking of Ray who was her boyfriend at the time) "It's like dating Barry but in Oliver's body." Why do I find this statement so insulting? First off it insults Barry, who was once a romantic interest of Felicity and is still her friend, by implying that his body is not good enough. It insults Oliver, the man she claims to be in love with, by implying that she'd prefer another man's personality in his body, that his own persona and smarts are not good enough. And finally it insults Ray, a man she had feelings for and was dating at the time she spoke these words, by comparing him to two of her other love interests instead of acknowledging as a person of his own.

Although a line of the most recent Arrow episode gives it a run for it's money. "Oliver like's baseball, here's hoping the innate fatherly influence ends there." Felicity, I understand you are currently mad at him, but did you seriously say that? Did you seriously say that there isn't a single trait in the man you claim to love that you think would be good for his child to have? His determination, his protectiveness of those he loves, anything? You basically just said you see nothing in him, only solidifying the implication of the former line that you do not appreciate his personality and brain.

We could debate all day about whether she meant these words or not all day. I have no interest in doing that. Whether she meant them or not is irrelevant to me, she still said them. Whether we truly mean them or not, very rarely do the things we say have no reason.
