Hello everyone,

Today, I want to talk about something that's causing a lot of discussion and worry in India—the Citizenship Amendment Act, or CAA. This law, passed in December 2019, is meant to give citizenship to people from neighboring countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, who faced religious persecution and came to India before December 2014. But there are some big problems with how this law is being put into action.

Firstly, many people are upset because the CAA only helps certain religious groups, leaving out Muslims. This goes against the idea of treating everyone equally, no matter their religion, which is an important part of our country's rules.

The CAA has also caused a lot of protests and arguments. People are worried that it's dividing our country and making some communities feel left out and scared. Some of the ways the government has handled these protests have made things worse, like using too much force and arresting people who speak out. And there are practical issues too. It's not clear how the government will decide who gets citizenship under this law. This uncertainty is making a lot of people worried and unsure about their future. Plus, if a lot of people start coming to India to get citizenship, it could put a strain on our resources and make life harder for everyone.

The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has been lauded for its potential positive impact in several key areas. Firstly, it offers protection to persecuted religious minorities from neighboring countries, providing refuge to those facing discrimination and violence. This aligns with India's humanitarian values, demonstrating compassion and support for vulnerable populations.
Additionally, by granting citizenship to refugees who have long lived in India without legal recognition, the CAA corrects historical injustices and ensures their rights and integration into society.

We need to make sure that our country stays fair, inclusive, and respectful to everyone, no matter where they come from or what they believe. Thank you for listening.
