Twilight Princess Game Review

The most sombre and dark of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphics to the limit on the Wii's hardware. It's darker and more threatening than The Wind Waker. There aren't any bug-eyed pigs, nor effeminate Pirates.

Link is dragged into a parallel dimension called Twilight Realm, where he transforms into a Hylian and a wolf while being guided by Midna.

Gameplay

Twilight Princess is the thirteenth installment in The Legend of Zelda series. It was released on the Nintendo GameCube and Wii systems in 2006. The game was highly acclaimed by critics and received top scores from several publications including 1UP, CVG, EGM, and GamesRadar. It is considered by many as the best games in the series, and was the highest-selling Zelda game on the PAL market.


Twilight Princess features a stylized, naturalistic graphics style similar to Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, but with a more sophisticated graphics engine. Twilight princess is the first game in the series to have a fully directional movement control system, instead of a fixed view like the previous games. This change was made to accommodate the Wii console's point-based interface. The GameCube version of the game comes with an area in the back that has mirror-image maps for players who prefer a fixed view.

Link transforms into a wolf when he enters the Twilight Realm. He also encounters Midna, a mysterious creature. She reveals to Link that the kingdom of Hyrule is now under the control of a group shadow beasts, led by the evil sorcerer Zant. She also explains that she is the real ruler of Twili but was usurped by Zant and cursed to her current form.

When Link and Midna arrive at Hyrule Castle, a short cut scene shows the soldiers being killed by the shadow beasts. Link and Midna then escape from the castle by an entrance tunnel to enter the Twilight Realm.

Link can move more freely around the world in the Twilight Realm by using his wolf form. Additionally, he can use his senses to navigate the world. For instance, he can sense the spirits of dead soldiers and other animals that are in the distance. He can also pick grass from specific patches and whistle using it to summon an animal, like a Hawk or Epona. Or, Link can howl near these patches to summon the same animal.

Twilight Princess is no different from other Zelda titles in that music plays an important role. Link can play instruments that are musical like the flute or the harp, to draw and summon different animals. Link can also use his voice to command the wolf's appearance. He can also use his compass to guide him to help him navigate through the world.

Characters

The Legend of Zelda series is full of colorful characters that leave an unforgettable impression on players. From hands emerging from toilets to pirates sailing across vast oceans, these quirky and creative personalities are the essence of the game. Twilight Princess continues the tradition of previous games by introducing a range of memorable characters.

Through the course of the story, Link meets new NPCs that are not only fascinating, but also credible. It's a huge step in the right direction to have many of these NPCs actually play a role in the story rather than just being a victim. NPCs such as Rusl, who explains how the forest has become more dangerous and kidnaps children, or Ordon villager who snoop around as wolves while the children are being taken from them, all have unique personalities that feel authentic.

Other notable characters include Iza who runs the Boat Rental Cabin, as well as Iza's Rapid Ride in the Lanayru Province, Louise, the cat of Telma who helps Wolf Link locate a secret passageway through her bar as well as sewer system into the castle and Faron who's spirit guides Link and Midna to the Forest Temple in the Eldin Province. The duo defeats Diababa's Fused Shadow and obtains the first Tear Of Light.

Midna is the princess of the Twilight Realm and one of the most interesting characters in the game. She is able to switch between her human and wolf forms and is a part of the Triforce of Wisdom. She is friends with Link and tells him about her experience in the twilight realm and how she defeated Zant the king of Twilight.

Zant who is the other half of the Triforce of Wisdom, is a wicked sorcerer and ruler of the Twilight Realm. The goddesses banished him to the Twilight Realm for enslaving their people and enslaving their territory. Midna removes Zant's power, permitting him to transform into his human form if needed.

Epona is a better horse that can be ridden in both the wolf and Hylian forms. Link can whistle around certain areas of grass to call the animal (similar to Majora's Mask). Twilight Princess is the first game in the series where players can name their horse.

Theme

Music is an important part of any Zelda game. It can make a game feel massive as well as expansive and thrilling. Twilight Princess' soundtrack is often criticized for being inconsistent and sporadic, which doesn't capture certain moments of emotion. Ocarina of Time Majora's Mask and other games have captivating music that explode at the right moment to create a feeling of grandeur and eeriness.

Twilight Princess was composed by Asuka Ohta and Toru Minegishi. Koji Kondo, the composer of the series for the first time since Wind Waker, was responsible for overseeing the composers. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a radical departure from the typical approach to the series, and features a the minimalist approach to melody and arrangement. The majority of music from dungeons and fields begins with a single instrument, creating a mysterious and eerie atmosphere for the player. Midna's Lament, for instance utilizes a simple keyboard to create a feeling of sadness for the player.

The most popular examples are dungeon themes, that have a dark and sombre atmosphere. This is most evident in Twilight Realm, which has an unsettling soundscape that could be heard in a David Lynch movie. The lack of melody and the traditional arrangement of this track enhances its dark, eerie nature. Drones and odd patterns are interspersed to create a dark, eerie texture.

A more upbeat and joyful song is Link's hometown theme, "Faron Woods." This song employs a variety of soft sounds and strings to create a calm and secure experience for the player. The song has an ode to the most famous scene in the franchise, since it features a thematic riff that's similar to the iconic melody that plays at the Ocarina of Time's beginning.

There are also some exciting songs in Twilight Princess that change depending on where the player is, what they are doing, and what's happening. For example, the Hyrule Castle Town theme has different versions for each section of the town, with Central Square having a more lively and full version of the song. These variations add a wonderful addition to the world of Hyrule that adds a sense of immersion and depth.

Story

Link's goal in Twilight Princess is to save Hyrule from the corrupted world known as the Twilight Realm. To achieve this, Link adopts the forms of an Hylian and a Wolf and is aided by a woman named Midna.

Midna is the original ruler of the Twili However, she was overthrown by Zant and cursed into her imp form. Link and Midna are informed by the Sages of the Old Testament that only defeating Ganondorf will be capable of releasing them from their curse. The Sages then reveal that the Mirror of Twilight is the source of the darkness in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link travel to the Spirit's Spring, where they encounter dangerous monsters who kidnap children. They enter the Forest Temple and battle Diababa to obtain the first Fused Shadow. Following this, Faron informs them that the next stop is the Eldin Province to the west (Wii) or east (GCN).

Twilight Princess allows you to ride Epona, the horse from Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. Unlike the set name used in the two aforementioned games, Link can now decide the name of the horse by himself.

Midna and Link can recover the remaining Mirror Shards once they arrive in the Twilight Realm. The Sages reveal to Midna that she is the real ruler of the Twili. She was passed over for the monarchy, and was turned into the god of power. The Sages also tell them that the only way to defeat Ganondorf is to bring him to the light and break the pact between the Twilight and Hyrule kingdoms.
