The most dark and serious of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphical presentation to its limit on the Wii's hardware. It's darker and more disturbing than The Wind Waker. There aren't any bug-eyed pigs nor effeminate Pirates.

Link can also whistle near the patches to summon a similar animal.

Like previous Zelda games music plays a major role in Twilight Princess. Link can use a musical instrument like the flute or harp, to attract and summon various animals. Link can also command the wolf's form by speaking. He can also use his compass to guide him to help him navigate through the world.

Characters

The Legend of Zelda is full of unique and colorful characters that leave an unforgettable impression. From hands emerging from toilets to pirates traversing vast oceans, these wacky and unique characters are the core of the game. Twilight Princess continues in the tradition of previous games, and introduces many memorable characters.

Link is introduced to new NPCs throughout the story who are not only interesting but also plausible. It's a huge improvement that so many of these NPCs aren't just there as victims and play a role in the story. NPCs such as Rusl, who explains how the forest is becoming more dangerous and kidnaps children, or Ordon villagers who appear as wolves while the children are being taken from them, all have unique personalities that feel authentic.

Other notable characters are Iza who runs the Boat Rental Cabin in Lanayru Province and Iza's rapid ride, Louise Telma’s cat, who helps Wolf Link find a secret way into the castle via her bar and sewer system, as well as Faron who's spirit guides Link to the Forest Temple in Eldin Province. The duo defeats Diababa's Fused Shadow and obtains the first Tear of Light.

Theme

Music is an integral part of any Zelda title. It can make a game appear vast exciting, expansive, and captivating. Twilight Princess' soundtrack is criticised for being sporadic and inconsistent that doesn't capture certain moments of emotion. In contrast, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have enthralling compositions that explode at precisely the right moment to create a feeling of majestic and eerie.

Twilight Princess was composed by Asuka Ohta and Toru Minegishi. Koji Kondo, the composer of the series for the first time since Wind Waker, was responsible for overseeing the composers. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a radical departure from the usual approach to the series, with a minimalistic approach to melody and arrangement. Most field and dungeon themes begin with a single instrument, creating an atmospheric and mysterious ambiance for the player. For instance, the eerie music in Midna's lament uses the piano to create an overwhelming emotion for the player.

The most well-known examples are dungeon themes that have a dark and sombre atmosphere. The Sages of the Old Testament inform Link and Midna that only the defeat of Ganondorf can remove them from their curse. The Sages then reveal that the Mirror of Twilight is the source of the darkness that exists in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link journey to the Spirit's Spring where they encounter hostile creatures that kidnap kids. Wolf Link's keen sense of smell assists them in tracking children's scent to a bridge nearby that they cross over into the Twilight Realm.

They enter the Forest Temple and battle Diababa and win the first Fused Shadow. Faron informs them of their next destination, the Eldin Province in the west (Wii) or east (GCN).

Midna, at the Lakebed Temple of Lanayru teleports Link to a fiery rock and then uses her powers on the ice beneath Lake Hylia. The spirit of the recently deceased Zora Queen, Rutela, then appears and tells Link that he must visit the Lakebed Temple in order to gain access to the treasures of Zora.

Twilight Princess allows you to ride Epona, the horse from Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. In contrast to the set name used in the two previous games, Link can now decide the horse's name himself.

When they arrive in the Twilight Realm, Midna and Link take back the remaining Mirror Shards. The Sages inform Midna that she is the true ruler of the Twili. She was passed over for the monarchy, and had turned to a power-hungry god. The Sages advise them that they will be defeated by Ganondorf when they bring Ganondorf to the light and break the pact made between the Twilight kingdom and the Hyrule kingdom.
