Once you've got your smart fridge connected to your smartphone, hub and fridge it's a breeze to use. SmartThings lets you manage your refrigerator from anywhere. Notifications are sent to your phone when it is opened or closed. You can set up schedules as well as set the temperature and even set reminders.

SmartThings is an early member of the Home Connectivity Alliance, which is striving to make the most important home appliances from a variety of manufacturers interoperable. In the near future, you could control your Samsung washer/dryer, Electrolux oven, and LG TV through the same app.

While it's not as well supported as Alexa and Google Assistant, SmartThings does have some big names on its roster, including Arlo, Nest, Belkin and Lifx. It's not as effective as Alexa integration into your fridge but it is an improvement over last year's model.

Apart from its entertainment and grocery management capabilities, Family Hub also acts as controller for Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can be used to control Matter-compatible devices like lights, plugs, and locks.

Samsung's fridge is a few years old and, although it still offers a wide range of functions but its touchscreen features are not a feature that many people would consider to be a must-have. They're more fun and semi-frivolous accessories than any other feature.

This may change when there are more software updates, but for now, these models are best for those who want to have the most comprehensive connected refrigerator they can get. If you're not one of them, you can always choose a lower-cost model without the Family Hub to save some money. This could be worth it for you when you have a number of smart home devices that need to be controlled by the same device, or if you like the idea of refrigerators with a huge touchscreen.
