Roast

The beans are then cooled and are then separated from any impurities or stones that have escaped the roaster. They are then inspected by hand prior to being packaged and sold. Some beans have a dark spot called"quaker. These beans did not change color or taste burnt. This is a normal condition and does not mean that the coffee is bad.

Often the beans are cooked in small batches, as little as 20 pounds at each time. These are called "micro-lots". This is because every coffee is roasted to specifications developed by a team of masters of coffee at Starbucks headquarters.
