Slot Rankings - How Wide Receivers Score More Touchdowns in the Slot

Slots are the same for every spin. There aren't any tricks to assist you in beating them. There are some tips you can use to maximize your chances of winning.

Take a look at the RTP of a game before you start. This number indicates how many players can expect to win in the long-term.

Slot Efficiency

Slot efficiency is the goal of maximising the number of slot switches that can be made while not violating the constraints that are predefined. These constraints typically include the minimal operational delay (usually expressed in terms of scheduling delays), fairness and equity access and competition, environmental goals, and more. The slot allocation process is a complex one, and optimizing it to achieve the desired performance metrics requires careful analysis of the various factors at play.

The process starts by identifying the different types of requests to be prioritised by reference to historical precedents. Once the type is identified then the slot allocation model is then used to minimize the delay criteria. However, there are many research gaps have been identified in the optimization of slot scheduling models, especially when balancing efficiency and fairness.

A popular method of prioritizing slot assignments is the ABC (assigned by velocity) strategy that collects information on the history of an item and creates a velocity group. Items that have the highest speed are given the best slots in the warehouse, while items with slower speed are placed further behind.

The distance factor is a key element in slot efficiency. It determines the amount of space required to facilitate the pick-to-ship process. The calculation considers the speed of the group, racking placements and the characteristics of handling equipment of the items.

To increase slot efficiency, it is also important to think about the costs associated with a given slot change. A quick look at the typical slot changes can help managers understand the costs associated with the move, and the effects it may have on other elements of slot efficiency, such as speed.

After spending a month or two validating the data and back-dating suggestions after which the casino began to use the system more frequently. The gaming operations team estimates that they will save between 10-12 hours per month by using their usual analysis. This doesn't include the time spent reviewing data from customers or developing a new, practical strategies.

The team was able by utilizing the new guidelines provided by SRE to make a number of game changes that increased the amount of money players earn. Dancing Drums Explosion, and Twinstar Wave XL from Scientific Games saw significant gains in the top lease rankings and WAP rankings. The casino also managed to shift their budget away from marketing and other costs to improving the floor's performance.

Perimeter Efficiency

We all know that wide receivers tend to score more touchdowns on perimeter targets than slot targets, as they're typically targeted further downfield and are often faced with one-on-one coverage. What may be surprising to some, however, is the fact that the top five slot players and the rest of the group score different on perimeter targets.

Mike Evans, Amari cooper, Tyler Lockett, and Michael Gallup were the top five scorers in the slot on perimeter routes of the 66 wide receivers who received at least 40 targets in each of the previous two seasons. The bottom half of the list was filled with more possession-based receivers including Chris Godwin and Diontae Johnson. The two latter two are likely to see a boost in their targets this season, if the Bucs shift them into the slot more often however they'll need to improve their perimeter scoring to maintain their high standards.

Speedy wideouts are the main beneficiaries of moving into the slot, because they generally have a much easier time getting open downfield in the event that their route isn't blocked by a cornerback or linebacker. The only wide receiver who isn't speedy on the list that benefits from more slot time is Corey Coleman, as he's an extremely reliable receiver on intermediate and short routes.

The bottom of the list is populated by possession-based receivers that are more effective on short and intermediate routes than deep ones like Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Jeudy is a good choice for a sleeper this year since he'll be the primary slot receiver for the Rams while Courtland Sutton and Amari Cooper are largely expected to be involved in more downfield targets. Hamler is expected to excel on shorter-to-mid and intermediate routes, because this is where he was at his best when playing for the Bills in 2021. He could be an excellent replacement for the departing wideout Jordan Matthews.

Percentage of Snaps in the Slot

The proportion of snaps a receiver plays in the slot is a good indicator of their ability to run deep routes. It's not always a reliable indicator of a receiver’s skill set, as certain receivers are better in the slot, but they can't play deeper.

For instance, the Eagles Alshon Jeffery is the leader in the league in the number of targets per game (4.8) but is only sixth in the slot receiving score (58.5). This is because the majority of his targets are from outside and it's hard to get a first down when playing an open, deep route.

On the other hand, some receivers excel in playing inside and can't do much on the perimeter. Robby Anderson, for example, was given 978 snaps by the Panthers this season. He logged 74% of his route in the slot, compared to only 26% of his boundary routes. This is a significant distinction and demonstrates how much more productive Robby Anderson is when aligned to the slot.

Additionally there is the Buccaneers' Chris Godwin lines up inside on most of his passing downs and has a top-five slot receiving score (58.5). However, he also played 51% of his perimeter routes in the last season, and is a star in one-on-one coverage.

Speed receivers are more effective when lined up inside, because they are able to get targeted down the field and frequently have one-on-one coverage. You'll find names like Mike Evans, Amari Cooper and Julio Jones in our top five.

On the other hand, we've got some great slot cornerbacks such as McDuffie and Moore in this group. Both have been able create pressures during the pass game with McDuffie leading the NFL with seven forced fumbles and Moore having the best tackle stop rate on this list (-3.5). Spagnuolo increased McDuffie's capabilities by putting his slot for nickel and dime packs and then shifting him to the outside while playing base defense. Moore's ability to stop big run plays is an enormous asset when playing the slot.

Percentage of Snaps Outside

While top NFL receivers such as Golden Tate, Larry Fitzgerald and Baldwin excel on the perimeter but their slot counterparts are also just as good. Wide receivers who have an excellent slot grade have touchdowns that are about the same as those on the outside. Rainbet is due to the fact that quarterbacks are more consistent with their targets when they throw to outside and slot wide receivers than other inside options like tight ends and backfield passers.

It's interesting to see a receiver like CeeDee lamb on this list for 2022. He plays the slot in 3 WR sets and flanker in two of the sets. He's running more routes in the slot than a lot of the players on this list. This is an excellent method to gain matchup advantages for your team. It also helps to explain why Lamb is the top-rated receiver in our system.

He also plays at the X-position, and can make big plays from outside. Lamb isn't as explosive as some of the other players in this ranking but he's an elite wide receiver who fits well into the Cowboys scheme.

Mecole Hardman is yet another example of a player capable of putting up huge numbers on both targets. He has a high slot receiver rating and is among the league's top players at catching back-shoulder throws, but he's also a great contested-catch threat.

Another player on this list who's an authentic slot specialist is Baltimore's Jalen Hilton, who has lined up in the slot on 85.7 percent of his defensive plays this season. He's allowed the third-lowest target EPA and the fifth-best run stop EPA among cornerbacks who are aligned in the slot, which makes him an important player in the defense of his team. He's struggled to stop passes from outside, and his EPA against this type of target is negative. This is due to him playing with safety and linebackers who cannot match Hilton's speed, size and route-running abilities.
