Batik is a patterned cloth made using wax-resist dyeing. batik77 is traditionally sold in 2.25-metre lengths that are used as kain panjang, a sarong worn around the hips or as a headscarf. Depending on its origin, batik can have deep earthy colours or vibrant tropical hues and patterns. It is also characterized by the use of different techniques and tools. Museum Batik Pekalongan has a large collection of old to modern batik that are categorized into coastal, inland, Javanese and other regions in Nusantara such as from Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Papua. Its total number of collections reached 1,149 batik.

There are several motifs that can be found on the batik fabric, such as kawung, ceplok, gringsing, cuwiri, parang, grompol, lurik lasem, sekar jagad, and truntum. The truntum motif, which is said to be designed by Kanjeng Ratu Kencana, the Queen of Sunan Pakubuwono III, reflects the hope that love grows stronger as time goes by. It is also a symbol of loyalty and devotion.

The kawung motif is a batik larang (exclusively worn by the royal family) that represents efforts to improve oneself, a fight for prosperity and forms of family ties. Similarly, the parang motif is reserved for members of the royal household and represents leadership. The size of the motif determines the rank within the royal hierarchy.

Flowing floral motifs are the hallmark of Malaysian batik, which is often made with cotton and silk. These fabrics are woven in a variety of colors, including white, black, pink and peach. They are also adorned with a wide array of embellishments, such as beads and embroidery.

Dana Michelle's newest Signature batik collection with Hoffman Fabrics features the sea life of starfish, urchins and sea horses in beachy shades of teal, aqua, purple, green, pink, brown, tan, peach and cream. This batik kit includes the Along the Shores quilt pattern, fabric and fusible web. Backing and batting are not included in the kit. The kit requires 3-2/3 yards of the batiks, and additional fabric could be needed for pattern matching and if you are using directional prints.
